It's a shame Hatton doesn't share your confidence. So exactly how many tickets is Lazcano going to sell?

Hatton saying he was considering fighting Witter is bullshit. He is trying to get himself off the hook because he is more than aware of public opinion. For an alledgedly intelligent bloke it was a big mistake to tell us what changed his mind by saying to us what Witter said. That has to rank highest among the excuses he has so far made. All he had to do was laugh and say "maybe". Christ you would think Witter had disrespected Hattons Mum. Hatton is pathetic and I hope the press tell him he is. Its time the fans/ex fans showed Hatton what we think of him by not buying the PPV and not attending the Mallignaggi fight. The fans who attend the Lazcano should make "fight Witter" banners and if possible wear T Shirts saying the same.

Hatton fought Mayweather for a bundle of money win or lose. A loss to Mayweather and at a higher weight means his career goes on with no shame. A loss to Witter and he is not only 2nd in the World but 2nd in Britain and thats why he wont fight him. Hatton with all his millions could easily afford a lower payday, and dont forget Witter would be fighting for nothing. Witter wants to prove he is the best and Hatton should be wanting to do the same. Then there is the prize, the WBC belt we all know Hatton would love to have.

Hatton has turned down loads of easy opponents in the past and will keep doing so whilst he is earning Millions, ultimately paid for by the public, who's champion he claims to be. Would he buy a box at City if they played Derby every week, I doubt it?
Boycott his mismatch and May and hit him where it hurts, not not his beer-filled guts, but his bulging pockets and he may have to reconsider.
What I can't work out is, he got brutally exposed by Mayweather, yes Mayweather beat him not Joe Cortez and was woefully outclassed in all departments, embarrassed even, yet he wants more of that yet the WBC title at his 'natural' weight is there for him against a fighter in the same mould, yet with 25% of the talent, and he doesn't want to know. It proves that despite having earned over £20M he still isn't prepared to take risks.
He and his yes-men handlers talk about his 'legacy' but until he gets Witter out of the way the only legacy he will leave is his constant avoiding of his local rival and WBC Champion - Junior Witter. If Lazcano, as they say, has drawn a 50k crowd already, which I doubt, then Witter would draw much more and then in the event of him losing to JW, which is doubtful, think how much he would get and the crowd he would draw for a re-match and, if victoriuos, a third 'rubber-match' - it would be huge.
"One Day" said Witter is hardly insulting to his male prowess is it. Maybe Junior should knock over his pint or even eye up his bird maybe - that may bring the man in Hatton out.

Hatton has lost more respect over the last month than he has over the last 7 years!
The guy is showing himself to be an idiot, tripping over his own tongue.
ALSO, the 50kat Manchester will now give a toss once Hatton retires, it oeople like US who will be talking about Hatton and what will we say?
He RAN from Hatton!
What will the boixing writers say?
He RAN frpm Witter.
Hatton is no Lennox, we will nit think higher of him when he is gone, we will analyse him more closely and we already know he is an apportunist and fighter of older smaller weaket men.
Hatton a pudendum.

Regardless of who you think would win there are a couple of facts that people seem to be missing.
Witter needs Hatton more than Hatton needs him, Why? Simple - MONEY.. Witter may have 'The Ring Belt', WBC Belt and be undoutbedly a fantasticly talented fighter, but what he doesn't have is the crowd pulling capacity or the money earning potential.
Witter - if he truly considers himself No 1 shouldn't be so desperate to fight Hatton, he should perhaps:
1. Get a PR Consultant and stop being so annoyingly arrogant
2. Get his ass over to the States
3. Kiss Oscar De la Hoya's ass
Lets look at the basics here - Witter is what 32-33? Whatever he hasn't got too long left and is older than Hatton so he needs to 'cash in his chips' (ie The WBC/Ring Belt) to the maximum and ASAP. If he gets Hatton at Wembley he would arguably get 3-4-5 million as it would be on HBO. Whereas without Hatton he carries on fighting in the fecking Doncaster Dome/York Hall which are tiny venues in Comparison to Hatton selling out Manchester City football stadium.
That said I think Witter is a fabulous boxer but has a bad attitude. You didn't see Clinton Woods acting like that towards Calzaghe did you? If they did fight I'm sure there would be a lot of respect but with Witter there is none.
In that way I can see where Hatton is coming from "Why should I give this guy the biggest payday of his career when all he does is disrespect me?"
In terms of true dislike he's shunning him in the most real way. Nigel Benn refused to fight Eubank for a 3rd time when he heard Eubank was broke because he didn't want to help him out, sounds like Hatton is doing the same thing here...
So the choice is Junior - be nice and play the game and you might get a fight and a few million, on the other hand if you want to be an arrogant macho idiot then crack on mate, but you'll be doing it in the Doncaster Dome on shit money mate...
Its a no brainer for Hatton - why fight him when you can go back to Golden Boy next year have 2-3 fights and earn 10 million plus when by comparison you could get dragged into a domestic fight for less.... Hmmmm I wonder what I'd do... ?

But Benn had already fought him twice, to punch him in the mouth. He had the bottle. I clearly recall Benn's post-fight interview after his first fight on SKY, he said he wanted Roy Jones and to forget Eubank, 'He made me go to Italy - he aint getting no help from me!'. Eubank made Benn wait for three years. Hatton has made Witter wait for 10 years. Witter fought Zab Judah, one of the best lb4lb fighters in the world at the time, and won four of the first six rounds when Hatton hadn't even fought for the British title - having two world-class light-welterweights in Manchester and Sheffield for 10 years straight and them not fighting once would have sounded absolutely hideous if you said it 10 years ago... just doesn't add up.

your saying witter needs the fight more for the money. your forgetting that junior has been calling ricky out for years, way before the fight was worth a fraction of what it is now. whether you believe witter would take the fight for free or not, money is not the determining factor for him. it clearly is for hatton. if ricky doesnt care about the boxing legacy he leaves behind, hes doing the right thing in avoiding a fight that, should he lose it, will be catastrophically damaging to his pride and his earning potential. if he does care about legacy however, its his duty to fight his number 1 contender ( as it is any champion ), because fight him or not, junior witter is going to define ricky hattons career

Spud, you blagged two trips with Hatton and you've suddenly become an expert. Look at the posts on here, ask people, what they think and they ARE losing respect for Hatton due to his constant BS regarding the Witter situation. His excuses over the years have not been consistant at all and a new reason appears every week. Team Hatton do make the decisions I agree, but ask yourself who is the boss of team Hatton? What would Team Hatton do without their boss, fornicate all and be nothing. Hatton makes the decisions and cdhooses to hide behind people who know FA about Boxing, people like you, Spud, yes men in a free tracksuit. The bottom line is, if Hatton wanted to fight Witter and really fancied the job, he would whether his gravy train drivers agreed or not. He IS Team Hatton and hiding behind them is a very transparent excuse indeed unless your rose tinted glasses need a polish.
No one going is around calling Ray or Paul Speak a coward are they. Ricky laces up the gloves and Ricky does the fighting and it will be him who get's called 'chicken' for years to come if he fails to step up, not them.
For me he beats Witter all day long, Witter will fade and go into running mode, it's in his genes he won't change. if Hatton stays off the beer long enough and trains for it he would beat Witter hands down and what a sweet victory it would be for him personally, before he moves on without any publioc pressure. So why doesn't he give his public what they want, maybe for a few quid less I grant you, but eirther way more than he would have got for Castillo and Tszyu due to his increased standing. Give the public a real present, as it was they who swelled his purse to bursting point by buying record PPV for his Mayweather humiliation and they who paid the extortionate mark up on the tickets from HIM (Via team Hatton) so why doesn't he genuinely put something back and give his loyal fans and the sport what's required.
People remember the great British showdowns and I really belive in years to come Hatton-Witter be remembered more by his fans that the Mayweather debacle.
So yes Spud the public, outside the Manchester area, ARE becoming bored with it and ARE losing their respect for him - and I for one think he will regret it some day and it will tarnish an otherwise great career.

I don't mean literally kiss ass but what I am saying is regardless of who you think is right or wrong, better or worse as a fighter/person, Hatton is the financial draw.
Lennox was called arrogant but he had a lot more about him than Witter in terms of public draw - he was Olympic gold medallist too, which helps..
To go up to him on BBC Sports Personality and say that "One Day" is just innappropriate" - it ain't the time or the place but because Witter doesn't get many opportunities he was clearly trying to make the most of it, but in the wrong way.
He'd probably have got further if he'd said "We should have a pint afterwards yeah" or anything except that..
As someone above says Witter fought Zab Judah before Hatton was as big as he is now which begs the question - why does Witter need Hatton?
Answer PR - Boxers don't have to just be good boxers they need to be business Savvy and I'm sorry but Witter isn't - he rubs people up the wrong way. Like I said he's a fabulously talented boxer and everytime I see him I'm impressed but then when they interview him he just comes across like he's got a chip on his shoulder...
If he goes to America and fights 2 massive names his boxing will force a Hatton fight instead of....the sun....
In beating Zab Judah (in racing terms) he was out of the traps long before Hatton but because of his attitude and public perception Hatton overtook him and eclipsed him really with the Tsyzu fight.. For Witter its a huge shame because those two are easily 1 & 2 in the world aren't they!!??!!??
He needs a PR Consultant, he needs to be percieved as a nicer/more humble guy/more rounded/dress up daft for charity/anything NICE and he'll start drawing bigger crowds in better venues.... he needs to play the game.. something which Hatton learned a long time ago...
Its a business as much as it is a sport these days and the most talented fighters can end their career broke despite titles unless they wise up. Witter still has the time to change it up...
Its ok being your own man and no one ever said its an easy road to walk down but I think he's made things difficult for himself..
Good luck to him is what I say, hope he gets the big payday...

I don't see Hattons avoidance of Witter (for whatever reason) as tarnishing his career, history proves this - think of all the great fights that have never been made and it runs into its hundreds.
Hatton has just fought the best fighter in the world and thats where the yardstick stands - not against Witter but with Mayweather.
It's a shame for BRITISH BOXING if the fight doesn't get made but it isn't a fight the whole boxing world are clamouring for - domestic battles do not generate big money - even if the crowds came to watch Benn vs Eubank for example - the rest of the world knew that the best SMs were in the states.
Hatton is an astute guy and enough of a boxing historian to know that a Witter fight will not enhance his legacy in the long run or on a worldwide scale.

If Witter is arrogant what the hell is Hatton?
