To be honest we have seen this sort of thing for years and years and years.
Cancellations at late notice - opponent brought in sanctioned by the world governing body and then the BBBofC have authorised it.
I remember Davey Walker getting his fight against Roman Karmazin - should he have got that fight? - I was delighted he got his chance - but many of you guys argued there is no way he should have been given the chance.
Time and time again - it happens especially in voluntary defences because you can be a little more sneaky about it - in otherwords the promoter/matchmaker selects the opponent - they canvass the governing body concerned - to save face the governing body sneak that fighter into the rankings - the fight is then announced.
Thats boxing - unfortunately.
David Walker should never been allowed near a ring with Karmazin. It was a shocking mismatch.

Christ at my age Spud I have seen so many things go off in boxing which at one time I used to get upset about but now if they shift the goal posts I really dont care anymore. If enough people protested things would have to change but the British public in particular cant be asked to make the effort so nothing will ever will.

Didnt the WBO once literally pull someone out of the crown to fight for the
"heavyweight championship of the world" against Tommy "i do 'em up the arse" Morrison?

Tim Tomashek was the guys name. A journeyman pro who was there to watch the fights.
plucked out of the crowd as a late replacement, the match was initially sanctioned by the money hungry WBO as a title fight and was only later reduced to non-title status.
