Lets be honest. He should retire. He's stated he's done all he wanted to do. Being in it solely for the money when you can get tagged as easily as Clinton did on Saturday, at the age of 35, is not a good idea.

Whilst I see your points and a lot of me is siding with you - I do not want Clinton retiring when I know he could and should have done better. Clinton Woods could have at the very least troubled Antonio Tarver - Prior to the fight, I always had the fight as a very close one - certainly a lot closer than many on here - however - I wa stunned at the manner of Tarvers victory.

Clinton Woods went the bloody hard way of achieving what he did in boxing - a credit to the sport - I simply cannot believe prior to or during the fight he simply thought or subconsciously thought he had enough at the age of 35 - I simply cannot get my head around the performance.

Clinton Travels well of that Im sure, Hes had a great career better than He ever imagened. Its time to call it a day and be safe, theres no easy ones at 35.

Hatton shouldnt be linear at 140 because he lost to a 130lber in his last fight. The fight been at 147 is irrelevant, Hatton turned down the fight at 140 5times so he could pretend he was the champ at 140, hes not though. Mayweather by rights is linear at 140, he doesn't fight there now so the belt is vacant, Witter and Hatton are 1 and 2 so the winner is linear and Hatton isnt linear unless he beats witter.

I don't think it's for any of us to decide if Clint wants to jack it in.

But i must agree that at aged 35, fights only get harder and harder - especially round 8 onwards.

With regards an Erdei fight... Klaus Peter Kohl (universum) is a tough guy to deal with and is not short of money, so it would have to be a very viable offer for his man to take a risk against Clinton.

Woods may be limited - but the guy travelled abroad and took it to Roy Jones for a few rounds before being outclassed - which is more than some 'champions' of ours. For that he should be acknowledged as brave if nothing else - he climbed into the ring with one of the finest fighters of our generation at his absolute peak.

It's just a shame he didn't beat big mouth tarver for his pal Scott Brookes.

Who knows, that bad news about his old pal could have took the wind out of his sails a bit.

Many Yorkies use Ingle styles and either get sparked or go into humiliatingly negative performances (ala Johnny Nelson & Witter) that no one will ever forget. Many seem to feel sorry for themselves during fights and lose concentration. Or never just get started. I didn't think I'd see Woods do that.

I'd like to see Woods have one more go, vs Erdei. He can't go out like that. And I want this for selfish reasons as I still think Erdei is a brilliant boxer, one of Europe's very best. But would Clint go in thinking, "they're going to rob me anyway"?

The fella's heart isn't in it. He's 35, made a few bob and has some stories to tell his kids.

He gets smacked plenty even in victory, he's been a good pro but he cannot climb higher than he has and he cant earn the money the risk would require - IMO.

Why not encourage the fella to listen to his heart and quit at the top, with dignity, marbles and a decent pay-check in the bank.

A grounded, sensible fella Clinton. He's 35 and now likely to be the opponent, abroad. Which means he'll get no favours either.

It's time to call it a day IMO.

If he was 29 it'#d be different. If the other leading lights looked beatable, Hop, Calzaghe, Tarver, Dawson...but for Clinton they don't. And he offers none of them anything, so how long will he wait for a shot at redemption - 2 years?

Pack it in Clinton. You were a top fighter with a big heart and a credit to Sheffield, the profession and your family.

Boxing would be healthier if fighters quit too early rather than too late.

Thing is, Joe could kill a couple of stones by fighting Johnson. Johnson has beaten Tarver (both fighters winning 1 apiece) and many feel he beat Dawson. Also easier to call the shots with Johnson as he doesn't have a big following. And he's old enough to be outsped but good enough to make a fight of it.

methinks Dawson and Tarver are going to be tucked away on Showtime for a while whereas Johnson is a worthy title defence on HBO (if Joe beats Hopkins) for Joe, which is where the bigger money is.

Showtime and HBO of course have both got their own "best light heavyweight in the world. Hopkins and Calzaghe vying for the Ring belt. Dawson and Tarver ready to unify WBC and IBF belts.

considering how badly clinton lost, he is probably the only NAME light heavy that zsolt WOULD be willing to fight!! :(

As an American watching the fight, I really feel that some of ya'll are being way too hard on Woods. He took a real pasting to the face and kept coming forward and throwing good shots to the body. Tarver was just a much better boxer . . .Woods is never going to be able to use tons of angles or feints, but to me he looked to be trying his best with what he had.

My hats off to Woods. She should call it a day and enjoy his family.

Doesn't change the fact Ricky lost to a smaller man and only made the fight at 147 to preserve his pretense to be the best 140lber in the world, hes not. Hes purposely avoided Mayweather, Cotto, Witter at 140 who were the best fighters in the division. He hasnt fought against another top 140lber since Tyszu

I don not know Clinton, but he did lose a good friend recently and according to Setanta, the funeral is this week.

That might explain the lacklustre performance.

Either way, I respect Clnton Woods as a fighter and something was missing that night.

I don't think he sounded like a right tw*t at all - he had just lost his world title - he is a proud yorkshireman who is genuinally gutted that he has lost his world title - he is a bloke now seriously considering whether he should retire from the ring - he has a wife and kids to support and his brain must have been totally scattered.

Clinton Woods is one of the most genuine down to earth fighters you can meet - I seriously thought boxing fans would give him a break rather than calling him a "right tw*t"

I agree. Whilst I was very dissapointed with Clinton's performance against Tarver, there remains some good match ups for him

I would start with Dean Francis, good domestic fight, should sell. Providing Francis can fully employ his right hand.

Francis looked terrible last time out I thought. I think Woods would deal with him comfortably now. Woods may have put in a dire performance at the weekend, but he has been operating in world class for a long time. Francis never really has and he can't use his right hand properly. Can't see it being remotely close if it happens.
