Whilst I am here I really want to bring Buncey to task - he had Calzaghe winning the fight by 2 rounds but what has got me biting is that he feels there have been numerous fighters who have avoided Joe - I just don't see it that way.
I will state it again so no one thinks this is sour grapes - Joe Calzaghe in my view is a bloody good world class fighter - but he leaves me as a boxing fan totally frustrated mainly because I honestly believe now a prime Joe Calzaghe could have taken on and beaten the very best prime fighters in the world.
The point now is - my thoughts about Joe Calzaghe being a legend is quite simply "he could have and should have been" - but all of us on here can only give our opinions on this as I do not feel Calzaghe has proved it beyond reasonable doubt - due to those wasted years fighting the Tocker Pudwills of this world.
True, but as I pointed out o another thread, he can hardly be blamed for Hopkins screwing them over the first time the contract was to be signed, or Johnson being injured.
Add those two names to his earlier career and it looks a lot better.

If you were one of the best pound for pound fighters would you want to come to Wales to fight what was at the time a relative unknown and in addition was "options" an issue for prospective Calzaghe opponents.

Fair point. I didn't think of that. However, Hopkins did stall because he wanted to wait for DLH instead. That's not really Joe's fault.

I do not want to diminish from the fact Joe Calzaghe for me proved an awful lot in recent fights especially the Kessler one - I really rated Kessler - but - if Calzaghe really wanted them big fights and I mean really wanted them - he could have BANGED Mr W arren's door down and demanded them!!!

Agreed. I don't remember Joe going to the media or putting pressure on Warren to make the biggest fights. The only one I remember him wanting publicly was Collins.

Mr W arren has paid Joe a lot of money - I honestly do not believe there was genuine confidence or the belief in Team Calzaghe to take on the very best.
People may that opinion is crap - I honestly believe it is true - if not why didn't the big fights happen??
The answer in Calzaghes case is not just about money!!! - no chance
