In Boxing Monthly. Witter said if he does not get the big fights soon, he is moving up to Welter.
He knows that it REAL FIGHTERS that take risks will fight him.
Mosley - Judah - Cotto etc.

What's changed, other than him fighting lesser names?!
And you all jumping on the anti-Hatton bandwagon. Still, the knees, as somebody mentioned, are the perfect excuse if Bradley beats him..
Judah is by far the biggest name on his resume and you want him to fight him again at welter? I'm sure a lot of people on here would clamour for that because Judah's been softened up so many times since.

I'm not clamouring for the fight, but I can see why Junior is talking about moving up in weight if Ricky continues to duck him. Junior was a 6 round novice fighter when he fought Judah at a weeks notice, so plenty has changed IMO.Captain Hook wrote:What's changed, other than him fighting lesser names?!

I'd be happy for Junior to fight Cotto, Mayweather, Mosley, Margarito, Williams, Quintana etc. so it has nothing to do with Judah 'being softened up'. I just want to see our fighters in the best fights which is why I want to see Witter-Hatton so much.
Other than Ricky there aren't any BIG fights at 140 for Junior, I'd worry about him being frozen out at 147 though if he vacated and moved up

There are more BIG fights at 147 than at 140, so in theory he'd have more chance of landing one at the BIGGER weight, as Ricky is the only BIG fight at 140 and we all know the story therestates wrote:I can't see how moving up to welter would help Witter get any big fights. Cotto Vs Mosley.
Margarito Vs Clotley
Judah Vs Cotto
Qunitanta Vs Cotto
Magarairo Vs Cintron
Margarito Vs Williams
Mosley Vs Collazo
They are REAL FIGHTERS!
Not like some we could mention.
Witter should hold onto his belt and go up of he can - just for the odd excursion!

Yes any fighter with an early career loss must be crap, Archie Moore, Dempsey, Henry Armstrong, all proper shit fighters those, they lost early in their careers you see to worse fighters than Judah, Hatton and his WBU defenses against lightweights pisses on HenryArmstrong obviouslyCaptain Hook wrote:What's changed, other than him fighting lesser names?!

BTW Harris/Kotelnik arent too far below Judah. Most would pick Witter over Judah now, I certainly would
PS for someone who gets annoyed about Hatton and Witter being brought up in the threads, you've done an awful lot to bring Hatton into this thread while deriding Witter for the sole purpose of supporting Hatton

And give up his title?
Chambers, you do sometimes come out with ridiculous stuff - Witter isn't the most active fighter, even with a bauble around his waist. Giving that up to chase a voluntary against a 147 title holder would be crazy, mainly because no one will take Witter on in a voluntary.
Let's not forget Witter is getting on a bit now for a low weight fighter, time is not on his side - He has no option but to dfend that wbc strap, and hang on in there and hope something BIG comes his way.

Hopefully a great night.
And a good winn for Witter
Top ten P4P is Junior
Top figher at LWW
Only time will tell if he gets the big fights.
Nice to see someone step up and have guts..

Cotto offered Witer a fight once, but with 2 weeks notice!states wrote:None of those names would fight Witter, DG, unless they absolutely had to. And that situation isn't going to come about, as you well know.
Well, not one is fighting Witter at light welter he might as well try at a higher weight , but hold onto his belt if he can!
So, what you're saying is that Cotto isn't that much of a risk-taker. I notice you also mentioned Collazo amongst the 147 risk-takers.DG. wrote:Cotto offered Witer a fight once, but with 2 weeks notice!states wrote:None of those names would fight Witter, DG, unless they absolutely had to. Well it's difficult to keep his belt at 140 if he decides to move upto 147Twinkle Toes wrote:And give up his title?
Why won't anybody take him on in a voluntary? don't judge the warriors at 147 by Rickys standards. Witter would enter the 147 rankings quite high due to his belt at 140, he may even be able to go straight into an eliminator. I think it's far more 'ridiculous' for Witter to spend the last few years of his career defending his belt against smaller names from the 140 division when he could go and test himself against the BIG boysTwinkle Toes wrote: Chambers, you do sometimes come out with ridiculous stuff - Witter isn't the most active fighter, even with a bauble around his waist. That's absolute drivel Twinkle, he could just sit there and hope Ricky grows a pair or he could go and try and make things happen in probably the best division in the sportTwinkle Toes wrote:Let's not forget Witter is getting on a bit now for a low weight fighter, time is not on his side - He has no option but to dfend that wbc strap, and hang on in there and hope something BIG comes his way.
Is that because you think it would be the same fight as last time?Tykemania wrote:Witter - Judah 2? When did I say any fighter with an early loss must be crap? I'd love a Witter fan with a well-rounded argument to come on here and justify that! At least Chambers2 has his eyes open (when he's not drunk :)
And you just proved my point about Judah, you'd facny Witter to beat him up now because he's been beaten so many times of late.
And I mentioned Hatton once, to say: "the anti-Hatton brigade"....
Try and keep up, it's not hard.
Chambers, the reason none of the 147 lb'ers would fight Witter is the same as the reasons Hatton won't fight him: It's just not worth it. You could get beaten, even if you win, you won't look good, and you ain't going to get much kudos from the boxing world if you do win.
Besides, the Hatton fight is much hyped because they're both Brits. You really think anyone in the States is going to be calling for Cotto/Margarito etc to take on Witter in a voluntary? No chance. Let's not convince ourselves that the welterweights are selfless warriors, showing their courage for our benefit. None of them will fight Witter through choice. And, unlike over here, none of the U.S. press or fans will give a shit that they won't do it.

Nice one States, a realistic answer....
Witter is a good boxer, nobody is saying any different, but he's a dullard, awkward and has done nothing to endear himself to the public...even in this country he doesn't sell any tickets.
Good performance v Harris, and good luck to him v Bradley, but he doesn't deserve the praise he gets on here.
He gets more praise and props on Boxrec than arguably any other British boxer, even more than Calzaghe and Haye.
