So what is exactley going on...

Khan wanted More Coaches with Harrison, Harrison refused?

different papers are saying different thing..

IMO, he should only change coaches if he is going to get a Much Better coach, such as maybe Floyd SR.

No point changing to another Trainer if he is nothing special, especially he is close to a title shot

Article taken from The Guardian and written by John Rawling:
An hour working out with the top American trainer Roger Mayweather, watched by the world's leading pound-for-pound fighter, his nephew Floyd Mayweather Jr, helped convince Amir Khan he had done the right thing in ditching his own trainer Oliver Harrison before his recent trip to Las Vegas to watch Joe Calzaghe defeat Bernard Hopkins.

Following the advice of his father, Shah, Khan split with Harrison after the recent victory over Martin Kristjansen, the 17th in his undefeated pro career. Harrison had been with the 21-year-old Commonwealth lightweight champion for three years, having first worked with Khan for his final amateur fight when he reversed the result of the 2004 Olympic lightweight final by defeating the Cuban Mario Kindelan.

"It was amazing having Floyd there watching me work with his uncle," said Khan. "He was telling me what I was doing right and what I was doing wrong. I was on the pads with Roger Mayweather for at least an hour. Floyd said I had speed and power but helped me with my skills, with defensive stuff. He got me moving my hips. In an hour, I'd learned something new."

Harrison had been publicly critical of some of Khan's preparations before his recent fights, and had voiced his worries that Khan had been fulfilling too many public engagements and attending too many press conferences.

The issue came to a head when Harrison declined to attend the final press conference before the Kristjansen fight, when he would normally have been expected to make himself available for interviews. According to Shah Khan, Harrison has not been in contact with any member of his family - including Amir - since the night of the fight.

Shah Khan denied there was a dispute over money, saying: "There were problems behind the scenes but you have ups and downs in any business. These should be resolved by talking round the table, which is what we tried to do, but Oliver has not replied to my phone calls or my texts."

Harrison was unavailable for comment last night but his replacement in the job of training Khan, the promoter allegedly allegedly's regular corner-man and matchmaker Dean Powell, said he had spoken with Harrison yesterday and that there were no hard feelings. Powell will take charge of preparations for Khan's next fight, at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham on June 21.

Khan's family are keen on employing a leading American trainer to supervise his preparations in the future, but how that might work in practice is less clear. Khan has said he would not be prepared to base himself in the US, which would almost certainly rule out an involvement with the Mayweather gym or the Los Angeles operation of Freddie Roach.

Another possibility is Powell taking over Khan's UK training on a permanent basis but would depend on Khan signing a new agreement with Warren when his present contract - along with his six-fight deal with ITV - ends after the next fight. Warren, who enjoys an amicable relationship with Shah Khan, is in pole position to clinch a new deal but an insider in the Khan camp said: "We will be talking to all interested parties and hearing what they say before we make any decision."
If Team Khan feel Mr W arren has done such a good job -- why talk to others??
an 'insider' could mean someone who makes the effing tea!!!! why do journo's use the phrases 'insider' or 'source' and expect half intelligent people to take it seriously. When they have a concrete quote they don't mind shouting who said it from the roof tops........so if Mr. Rawlings had a genuine 'insider', i'm sure we would know name, DOB, current billing address and blood type.

Amir Khan is a twat. He is a dumb bastard being controlled by a bunch of money hungry wankers. I can't stand his dad either. That big gap in his teeth, with all that money he should get that shite sorted.

Are the Khan's trying to tell us that they were simply unable to figure out how to open the doors of the gym and were forced to slip a 'Dear John' letter under the door. Oliver's gym door may be locked but I've managed to get a train there, walk a bit, then arrive at the gym and figure out how to ring the bell, and I'm slow as fook.

Is it really easier to go to Vegas and meet Floyd Mayweather than it is to go to Salford and do the right thing by a guy who put 110% into you? Possibly there were fears that if Khan drove to the gym pedestrians would die but why not send one of his burgeoning number of flunkies to do it?

It is bollocks, the behaviour of yellow-bellies.

I have had experience of witnessing this type of behaviour in the past. It is often the infleunce of the people that surround the fighter, sowing ideas and whispering in their ears. The poor trainer is the guy who has to tell it like it is, not how the fighter wants it to be.

I feel sorry for Harrison, he seems like a nice bloke. This kind of moral cowardice is to be expected though.

If Harrison dares to speak up about it, watch the PR machine rumble into life and start to blacken his name with all kinds of allegations (he wasn't good enough...I never learned anything...he was taking too much money). It is bollocks but that is how it happens.

Maybe there are a few posters on here who could give Khan some tips. :TU:

The point is that his dad is running the show behind the scenes.

Khan is the new Naz, his wanker brothers took over the show from Warren and while they made him a lot of cash he was an utter prick and was never as good.

I would love to smash Riath Hamed in the face with a banjo, he makes my skin crawl...you've probably all seen him on the documentaries.

My comments would not be as strong as some of you!!! :TU:

Except for my original one and it remains as such Oliver Harrison has been treated like sh*t and he did not deserve to be done in such a way.

Again I will say whoever is fighting Khan I hope he knocks him out.

Just want to add, boxing is full of ppl dropping guys who have served them well. Lots of ppl have done this, not just Amir Khan, though it is unfortunate for Harrison, one of those good unsgung trainers out there. Ultimately it's about the money, and we all know ppl get nasty when arguing over pounds. Oscar de la Hoya also sacked someone close to him via letter/email/text message or whatever. Obviously the party that does the firing wants someone else to do the dirty work. If you feel guilty AND try to dismiss someone who's done good things for you face-to-face, it's not easy. If ypu're the cash cow, you're not supposed to feel bad.

Yeah I'll agree with that but Harrison is a top bloke and a good up and coming trainer who's taken him all the way to a title shot.

He at least deserved to be in the corner when he got there and won it....met them both last autumn and they were like best pals, such a shame.

This has SN's fingerprints all over it. He's ditched Harrison without a replacement, wants to train with Mayweather, but in the meantime, SN's man Powell will plug the gap.

This sounds like an expedient SN decision through and through designed to calm Khan down about moving Stateside, or perhaps wait until the air clears.

I'd like to see Khan in the states, but it seems as though Harrison has been treat very shabbily indeed.

I was thinking the Same thing..

I wish people would stop Blaming Amirs Dad, who, according to some peoples opinions here that he "Runs the Show".

Fact is he has encouraged and supported Amir since he was a kid, not since he got a lot of attention and a lot of Money Making Potential.

Remember, this was not a tiff between Khan and Harrison, its a lot of Politics involved Behind the Scenes, which is no doubt going to mean SN will have something to do with it.

It is a shame that trainers don't get the respect often from promoters/managers (trying to split 'em up from fighters they've brought along well a common occurance in boxing).

Adam Booth is flavour of the month, after Haye's big win over Enzo. But before that he was classed as an impsoter which wasn't fair at all.

I never knew Powell worked for/with Mickey Duff!

Given that Duff has been involved with boxing for such a long time & has a wealth of experience, Powell must also have a fair amount of experience, which is a good thing. Powell must have learnt a lot over the years.

I think Powell will be good for Khan. Time will tell!

Khan And Harrison have been Close, so im pretty sure they never woke up one day with nothing but Hate for each other.

wasn't someone saying earlier it was to do with Sponsors etc.

Like i said, Khan, after with Mayweather Sr thought he could learn and improve a lot more than with Harrison. Thats ok, nearly every boxer does that.

The way it happened should not be Blamed on Khan. I admit, they should have done it Man to Man, but fact is it didn't.

a) They have probably done the right thing for the Future.

b) How they did is pretty Dumb.

Wanting to have his faced smashed in because of it is even dumber, and IMO just Immature.

Powell was with Duff years ago. As I mentioned in my post I think he started of as a sort of apprentice. I think he then worked his way up, eventually replacing Paddy Byrne as National Promotions Matchmaker, so he has bundles of experience and knows the game inside out. What I didnt know is that he has trained fighters. A friend of mine who used to spar with Duke McKenzie late in his career tells me Powell trained both Duke and Lloyd Honeyghan, so on that basis he could do a good job for Khan.

My main reason for stating Oh Dear in my post was the fact that Khan was changing trainers at all, not particularly who he was changing to. I am a great beleiver in the old adage "if its not broken, dont fix it" Khan is unbeaten under Harrison and has shown a lot of improvement in such a short career to date. They appear to have a good rapport. Things can go wrong when you change something that is working, so I would stay put even if the trainers were to be Freddie Roach or Mayweather Snr, I would stick with Harrison, for the sake of consistency and continuity.

Going back to my first post, if the fighter is as talented as Khan or those guys from the Kronk, Hearns, Kenty, Thomas, Mcrory etc, these fighters are so talented I dont think there is a great deal any trainer can teach them. Its just about harnessing their natrual ability.

BTW Khan v Gomez will be interesting for a while but I think it will become target practice in the end. Should sell a lot of tickets and make a good spectacle. Khan stops him in 6.

As far as I understood it - and I'm taking the words of others now when Powell's face was beginning to emerge in boxer's corners regularly - he was initially a a spit and bucket man.

Good luck to the fella, being around the training camps and keeping his lugholes open shows that anyone with enthusiasm for the game and a will to learn can have an impression on a generation down the line.

Personally I would want someone that has at the very least been through the experience of fighting and has a knowledge for training fighters built around that. I could be out or order for saying this but acquired superficial surface knowledge isn't enough.

Dean Powell always leads Darren McDermott’s corner, although Ronnie Brown does the work before the fight. He has done an excellent job with Macca between rounds, reading a fight well and dispensing some excellent advice.
