I feel so sorry for Froch and Hennessy :(
Looks like even when he gets the belt he`ll get no recognition because he too will be avoided :( .. a good champion needs good challengers to show his stuff.
I just watched Williams v Ward
Williams is slow letting them go - and even slower getting his hands up once he does let them go .. steps out of the clinches with hands by his waist .. all screams a Froch upper-cut ending it early .. 2rnds max
The TV audience wants competitive fights .. sadly through no fault of the promoter or Froch .. this fight will look badly one-sided

Froch is a bit fed up with finally having his own unbeaten, highly ranked opponent in Inkin drop out. Denis was a scalp to call his own - instead of fighting other people's leftovers and proving his worth by beating them quicker, here we had a guy who hadn't been beaten and was highly regarded in the rankings.
Obviously we all know Inkin's arse fell out, he didn't fancy coming over to get knocked out and will go a different route to a title - prob the crappy WBO route to match his stablemates Sergiy and Zsolt.
However the other bummer in all this is Berrio.
He wanted to fill the void left by Inkin in March, but Denis issued a statement saying he really wanted the fight and the WBC gave him the benefit of the doubt.
When inkin bombed out, the WBC made Carl the mandatory regardless, which basically paved the way for Berrio as no permissions were being sort after now.
Berrio was due to get a HUGE payday to step in a save the show - but after excitedly accepting the offer Mick Hennessy had grafted together for them verbally, the little tinker disappeared off the face of the earth. They tried in vain via fax, email and telephone but could not get in touch with him or his team. They had ducked the offer.
Jean-Paul Mendy (who Froch beat in the amateurs) and Kingsley Ikeke both considered and turned down the opportunity.
Finally Rubin Williams, who had been sparring with Lucian Bute took up the opportunity.
Carl at this point is just happy that at least someone has stepped up - he gets to fight on ITV and gets paid. None of this is Hennessy's fault, he has broke his arse getting a super middleweight in for Froch.
It would seem Berrio is just another joker like Inkin.
Thanks GOmez for putting us in the picture. Fair play to Williams for stepping in to save the day but instead of seeing a close contest with Inkin sadly its going to be a rather one sided affair. Fair play to MH also for all his hard work. Lets hope this all leads to a big night on ITV later in the year for Froch in a World title match.

The truth is, Rubin is better than Carl's last two opponents and may cause more trouble than we think.

Lets hope Daley Thompson does give Froch a fight.
I just hope Froch is arsed now.
Allan green went the full 12 with Rubin and Ward did 7.. i think Froch will take around 4-5 rounds to give the fans something to see

Robert McCracken needs to do a good job here - he has to make sure Froch knows this guy will be dangerous if Froch goes in there thinking he has already won!!!

come off it spud, froch sparks him no prob, same route as damon hague if he wants, but i think froch may carry him for 4 or 5 rounds before looking for a comprehensive KO for the itv fans !!

well in fairness I think he'll be a more difficult opponent than we think, he's natrally bigger and although he hasn't always won he has compeeted at a good level and is less over the hill than Reid.

ive got a bad feeling this will look like such a horrible mismatch on prime time terrestrial TV that the abolitionist crowd will be out in force again...

Its not missmatches that cause people to call for the game to be abolished its close but brutal matches, a missmatch sees someone KOed quick... I don't think its that awful a match, certainly better than the fight between say Ricky Hatton and Mike "no JOke" stewart

i don't know... its been a while since there was a really brutal KO on terrestrial TV and this certainly could be one, and that would definitely raise some terrestrial eyebrows.

Cheers for letting us know the details of what went on Gomez

Berrio's a kant just like Inkin is
With only having a few weeks to find an opponent I think Micks done a decent job getting Williams in, it's obviously not the fight we wanted to see, but at least Carl is still on the bill and gets a run out on terrestrial TV.
Hopefully Carl lets his frustration out on Williams and sparks him dramatically, this is still a BIG night for Carl irrespective of who's in the other corner

Froch seems to finnish people more with body shots or combinations of hard shots causing the reff to stop it before they get KOed can't think of someone he's knocked out cold

Froch gets nervous before fights - me and you have seen that - if he feels for one minute this fight is just run of the mill stuff or if he plays to the crowd - he could slip up Rhino!!!
Froch is a world class fighter and thus needs world class fights - the f*ck ups come with lesser fights when a fighter takes his foot off the gas because he thinks the opponent is crap and does not show the opponent any respect.

New WBC No. 1 Carl Froch looms tantalisingly close to a major world title shot at super-middleweight as he takes on American 'fringe' contender Rubin Williams over 12 rounds in Nottingham this Saturday. (WBC champion is "No Ordinary" Joe Calzaghe, who has moved up to light-heavy and will almost certainly relinquish.)
Hometowner Froch, a banger with 18 kayoes in 22 wins, walks the proverbial tightrope against a man who takes this at very late notice for Germany's twice-injured (make that twice reluctant) Denis Inkin and Colombia's then mooted Alejandro Berrio, the former IBF super-middleweight champion with whom terms could not be agreed.
Said Froch: "Williams is a tall [6ft 2ins], rangy box-puncher and has been very active this year and already fought two world class fighters [Andre Ward and Allan Green]; that's why he is ready to fight me right now. Williams deserves a lot of credit; he has a true fighter's heart. Unfortunately I can't say the same for Inkin or Berrio."
Understandably, Froch goes in favourite against the 32-year-old Williams, a stylish, likeable but faded exponent from the famous old fight city of Detroit, who brings over a respectable 29-4-1 (16) record and plenty of top-flight experience. Indeed, Williams challenged Jeff "Left Hook" Lacy for the IBF super-middleweight title in Las Vegas in March 2005 and, after a bright start, was stopped in seven. This was before Lacy came over to be outclassed by Calzaghe, of course.
A former top amateur (132 wins, 16 losses, including a win over Lacy), Williams looked great in his early pro years - slick and quick - but after 19 straight wins Colombian middleweight Epifanio Mendoza clocked him in just 42 seconds at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit in 2003, a real shocker, although Williams claims he was weight-drained.
Williams moved up to super-middleweight and reeled off seven wins before Lacy proved too strong for him in that IBF title fight at the Mandalay Bay. Lacy, making the second defence of his title, was outboxed in the early rounds, especially in a dazzling fourth, but hurt Williams in the sixth and overwhelmed him a round later, though he never put Rubin down.
He trapped Williams on the ropes for long periods.
Williams came again with three more wins but the man tagged "Mr Hollywood" because of his star quality has failed to shine (or win) in his last three fights, admittedly in excellent company. Last time out in March, California's unbeaten former Olympic gold medallist Ward stopped him - on cuts - in seven rounds in California (Ward was dominating); Tulsa's once-beaten "Sweetness" Green outscored him over 10 rounds in January in Oklahoma (going 10 rounds with the muscled, touted, big-hitting Green is actually a decent effort) and Iowa's heavy-handed Antwun Echols held him to a thrilling 12-round draw in Michigan last year, although Echols is pretty 'shot'.
On that note, Williams failed to make it past the testing stages of Contender III last summer when his reaction-speed was judged as not up to the mark. He also served as a sparring partner for the likes of Edison "Pantera" Miranda and Ronald Hearns (son of Tommy) between recent fights. History tells us Williams has beaten nobody of great note, struggles every time he steps up, makes his first professional appearance outside the States, lacks a big punch and, worse, looks to be on the downslope physically (he looked chubby against Ward two months ago).
You also wonder about his ambition.
Still, those 10 rounds with Green just four months ago in Green's own backyard (like this) prove his savvy, experience and toughness (he is durable), and Williams will know that a win over the WBC No. 1 would get him back up there and is predicting just such a thing. Confidence, or lack of it, has never been one of the American's shortcomings.
To the equally confident Froch, a big, strong, feisty, punishing, wear-you-down '12-round' fighter who has stopped his last six opponents and is overdue this step-up after six unbeaten years as a pro. The 30-year-old former double ABA middleweight champion currently holds the British super-middleweight title, a title he won in Nottingham in September 2004 with a first-round blasting of Derby's Damon Hague and has retained four times to secure a Lonsdale Belt outright, including a five-round pounding of former WBC champ Robin Reid in Nottingham in November in his last outing. Reid, who went the full 12 with Calzaghe, announced his retirement afterwards.
Froch also won the Commonwealth belt with a fine 12-round decision over Ghanaian warrior Charles Adamu in fortress Nottingham in March 2004, a belt he retained seven times before relinquishing.
Lanky and long-armed (6ft 4ins tall), the fighter known as "The Cobra" whips in hurtful shots to head and body and showed great resolve in that win over the gutsy Adamu, who troubled him early but was dropped in the eighth round and hammered thereafter. Carl also struggled much of the way against big Belfast southpaw Brian Magee at York Hall in 2006 but nailed Magee with an uppercut in the 11th and took him out. What I'm trying to say here is that Williams will probably build up a lead in the early rounds tonight, given Froch can be surprisingly ragged and easy to hit early on. It is worth noting again how well Williams performed in the early rounds against Lacy.
Froch, however, has a great chin and great stamina, and we know all about his strength, aggression and power. The iron-jawed, pumped-up local man shrugs off the American's quick start and, like Lacy, pins Williams on the ropes for periods, pours it on to body and head and forces a middle-round stoppage.

Well with out sounding like Spud, I've stood next to him and I'd say - at best he's the same height as me, and I'm 6'1. Unless he was having a particularly spikey hair day when Bennie met him.
