But how are they going to sell this to the general public? Trade on Gomez success over the likes of Baz Carey and Daniel Thorpe- men who Khan easily beat very early in his career.
I think they'll focus more on AAA than the 2 you've mentioned.
IF Gomez wins this he can call himself the 'Prospect Killer' (ala JC)

You know what. I would put a few pounds on Gomez early. Yes he is damaged goods and didnt really make a dent in Johanssen and yes he has been stopped but if he can land one early it might get interesting
The odds would be nonsensically high so I would only put £5 or so

So let's get this straight, we've got a washed-up Super Feather whose last decent win came four years ago and who has suffered three KO losses in the subsequent six fights against luminaries like Peter McDonagh, going in against an undefeated Olympic silver medallist who has already KO'ed superior opposition, and who holds significant size, weight and speed advantages, and yet some of you think the match is justified??!! WTF
The only piss-poor attempt at a justification is that Gomez still has punching power, but he went to the well for the final time against Johanneson and despite a magnfiicent effort for the first few rounds he completely failed to even come close to making a dent in him, so I don't even accept this. Even his power isn't what it was. I'm sure he's "up for it", but that means f**k all in the scheme of things.... he was most definitely up for it against Johanneson and look what happened there...
I'm genuinely surprised at some of you here, who seem to be letting their hearts completely rule their heads in the vain hope that Gomez can roll back the years and see off another young prospect in the manner he took care of Arthur... that fight was five years ago people and the current Gomez is a shell of that fighter. Reminds me of those who somehow thought Tyson would roll back the years against Lewis...
Gomez is going to be blitzed, stopped and possibly humiliated. Shame on those who want to see a proud warrior go out like this.

Gomez is gonna get sparked out. Say what you like about Khan, but his speed is brilliant. Like my mate Sweetscience said, Gomez being up for it is exactly why it will only last a few rounds.
Gomez is a puncher yes, but he is a puncher who no longer has the speed of hand or foot to get into the positions necessary to seriously hurt Khan.

if the gomez that turns up to fight khan is the same one that was so so competetive against johannesen, then khan could just be in for a shock. this fight is definately not going past 5 rounds, but if it goes more than a couple of rounds then khan will taste some hard leather, and if gomez left hook connects then who knows....
yes, khan should win, and win easily, but the puncher/gladiator side of gomez makes this a decent fight for khan.
The problem is, though, Gomez is a puncher at 130. Khan's a huge lightweight. Still, it should be interesting for 2-3 rounds.
Willie Limond wasn't a puncher at Super-Featherweight either.
There is a 10% chance of a shocking upset I would venture, which is roughly 9% more than any other contest Khan has had.
yes but Limond is young, fit and well schooled. doubtful Gomez can land the shots that Limond landed.

His reflexes are shot, and Khan's punches will be particularly hard as Gomez can't ride the punches anymore...it's a cynical match up in my view.

Come to think of it- why Gomez and not Johansen>? He looked good against Mitchell, until that round when he lost.

There's no doubt it's a bit of a mismatch on current form (any form), but I'd much prefer to see this fight than Khan-Kristiansjen/St Clair/Lawton etc. as they stood zero chance of beating Khan, whereas Mikey has a very slim chance.
Ordinarily I'd probably be up in arms about this one, but I wasn't expecting anyone special due to it being Khans last fight with FW and as he's split with OH, plus I like Gomez and his antics. I just hope that Mikey's getting well paid for this one

Will Gomez moan to the ref about being saved this time from going out on his shield I wonder.
He'll get seriously hurt.

I can see Kahn winning this one. I like Gomez he looks like an in your face fighter who comes to fight so it will be intresting to see how Kahn reacts to someone who wants to hit you. I will proberbly go for a Kahn stoppage round about the 6th due to the fact that i watched Gomez/Johannson and Gomez punched himself out. Hopefuly Gomez will connect with a few just so we can see what Kahn's chin is like. Good little tester for Kahn IMO.

I am surprised that so many see this as a potential test for Khan and not the ugly blow out that I think it will be.
I am starting to second guess myself here but my instincts tell me this will be short and not particularly pleasant viewing.
Gomez has been a great servant to the sport but he could get a high profile shellacking in this one.
Khan's match making needs to be looked into closely on the back of this one sided offerring.

Yes, I agree with that.
What has Gomez done 1) For years and 2) At Lightweight.
More people seem to be prefering this match up to the Kristjansen one - who was a proper Lightweight who did draw against an EBU champion. Gomez was boderline European class as a Super Feather in his prime.

Although I feel it very unlikely - I hope Gomez smashes Khan and bursts his bubble.
Lets hope Oliver Khan is in gomez's corner!!!

Who's Oliver Khan mate
Jokes aside, this fight is a pantomime - Gomez will make all the right noises and look the part to ensure the non-boxing afficiendos watching on TV will think it's a genuine fight. He'll then be blown out of there in one or two rounds and the Amir roadshow will continue along in its own bizarre fashion...

What pisses me off the most is that ITV will be bigging Gomez up.

all ill say is that if gomez lands the bingo shot, then it may be interesting...and khan will have that in his mind, i know its very very unlikely, but even the slightest potential will make it interesting.
lets be honest, i would rather watch khan v gomez than watch hatton v lazcano.
would you guys ????

I honestly wouldn't. Hatton and Lazcano will be a higher skill level and will go a good few rounds. Although I'm not happy with it as a match for Ricky I think there's a danger that this leads us to play down the fact that Lazcano is not as bad as some are making out.
As for the 'bingo shot', Gomez is too old, too slow, lacks the power he once had etc, so it just won't happen. He'll be dissected by the jab, bewildered by the speed and overwhelmed in quick fashion.
I just don't buy the 'bingo shot' argument - it can be used to justify too many fights that should never be made... remember Walker vs Karmazin

Poor match up, why cant Khan fight someone who is a live opponent.

I can see this being a repeat of the Earl fight (who was more equipped to pull the upset i might add). Especially galling will be the fact that the ITV crew will be building Gomez up and showing his ko of Arthur & Gomez himself will be snarling and playing the part which will make his demise that much more humiliating.
Part of me says that Gomez deserves more than that but maybe being retired with what should be a decent payday is the bes he can hope for.
