We've nothing to gain by making it up.
I've just given my ticket away.
I just can't be arsed with this bill anymore.

I would be surprised if Martin Gethin stepped in at this late notice, unless he was in full training for a fight himself.

Martin is a prospect in his own right and could give Murray a few surprises if he is under motivated/going through the motions.

That said, Murray has a huge edge in experience of hard, long fights.

Would be a very good last minute fill in if it could be made though!

Yeah, Martin has been offered the job. He is always in the gym anyway, so he’d be fit for the fight. I reckon, from what he was saying to me at least, he’ll take the opportunity.

And I'd applaud him for it. Decent money, ITV and a chance to really make a name for himself. In defeat what does he lose. Not much.

Gutted for Fewkes, watched that little mess about interview with Ross B and really liked the lad.

Boxing is shit sometimes isn't it. Was a superb opportunity for both lads who both showed a lot of balls going against each other this early on. Must both be gutted.

I wonder if it will be rearranged, Murray has got to be looking beyond the English title now?

Sounds like Fewkes may have eaten something horrid if it's true he has gastro whatsit.

I had a bad curry once and nearly turned into the Incredible Melting Man.

Hope Murray beats a decent opponent and maybe vacates the English for Fewkes, with JM going on for the Thaxton-Meager II winner.

Murray v Fewkes over 12 rds for the British title sounds better 3 or 4 fights down the line. They'll both be better, more experienced fighters then. Felt it was a lot to ask of both lads as they're only 23 or 22.

This general allergy that prospects have to fighting eachother and the desperation to hang onto an unbeaten record is the scurge of the sport.

I think thats one of the main reasons so many were looking forward to Murray v Fewkes - we rarely see such a contest in the modern game.

still, I'd rather see 'em with 12 rds in a fight for a British title. They've had their window to fight each other Mar 29-Apr 4-May 10 and it never happened.

I think Murray must move on and get this Thaxton bout.

When I talked to Murray he brought up the "11st merry go round" as you call it and how they all fizzled out from not fighting each other when the public wanted these fights. He did say he was excited about the potential fights between quality Brits and how these sort of fights need to happen for the good of boxing.

All the same his career is still stuck at English level. All young fighters need that ladder to keep 'em progressing. As his trainer Gallagher told me, Murray needs fioes that are up the ladder.

The fight's too good for just an English title. Trust me, their personalities and styles will shine through better in a 12-rounder for a bigger belt. Until the Showtime involvement it seemed as though they'd been buried early on in the show.

If you don't develop right you have fighters who turn out like Anthony Hanshaw. All the talent, but something missing badly.

funnily a # of those fights did happen, but not exactly when ppl were interested in seeing them.

also there was harry simon for the WBO (light middle and middle) but he battered alexander & lueshing and beat winky wright.

can't see this happening with the current lightweights. khan, murray, fewkes, and surely soon to add arthur, mitchell i would say, not forgetting limond, thaxton, stewart, meager and eventually frankie gavin when he goes pro. not sure what weight lee purdy is - is he staying at 140 or going down to 135 - but he looks good. how long will a big lad like truscott be making 126-130?

Dixon - after he beat Moore.
Logan and Jim Rock were pretty decent operators aswell at that time.

The big difference is Murray and Fewkes should be going much further - both have said they're looking to vault British, Euro, world - than those light middles.

Of all the light middles to fight in Britain only Simon (from Namibia) had realistic world title aspirations.

As such, you have to save something for the next levels. Of course, there has to be a balance between the good fights AND the fights that put you up the ladder.

I bought my ticket to watch Fewkes v Murray.
I cant warm to Froch, and whilst I will always support Junior, this fight just does not light the touch paper for me.
You know Ryan is my close friend, so of course I'd be there regardless of his opponent.
That said, the Bethnal Green bill turned out to be a gud un, and very good value for money - unlike this one.

Save your money for Murray vs Thaxton/Meager winner and Fewkes vs whoever's just behind him in the English top ten.

A look at possible Murray opponents but at short notice will any of them step up to the plate and has Murray got more to lose than gain by fighting any of them at short notice?
