He is potentially very good but it is a troubling time for Murray. He needs to be moved onward now, ditch that English title which I think is happening. Last night's opponent was a bad idea for TV.

Everyone has their career slumps - Calzaghe vs Salem, Hatton vs that guy where he wanted to go home early - but it is bad to see a 23 year old fall into a career rut while Jon Thaxton is given the breaks.

Let's not forget, as off form as he was last night, he was excellent vs Hickman, a fight where he showed massive promise.

I get the feeling that similar to Witter, Murray looks good when he is in against the right style of opponent. Someone who moves a bit, roughs him on the inside and has a bit of speed will give him trouble.

Murray seems to mark up a bit too, even putting the cut aside, he gets lumps and bumps early in fights, might be the next Jamie McKeever.

Not going to base too much on last night's showing given the circumstances but i think he is in a rut and will perhaps find British level his area rather than too much beyond that, for the reasons stated already. Shame, as he did look a top prospect early in his career.

Hate to say it, but I've seen Murray on a few occasions now and I just don't get what all the hype is about - he's too upright, has too porous a defence, zero head movement and has shown little in the way of progression over the last couple of years.
At one point people were trying to build a Khan vs Murray rivalry but much as I think there are worrying chinks in the Khan armour, he'd blow Murray away.

He appeared to fight down to a spoiler. Not a pleasing performance. No one really looks good vs Hamidi, who I had beating Simpson. Anyone can fight down to a spoiler. I believe for motivation's sake, Murray needs to be given a big British title fight.

There is so much happening at lightweight. Almost too much. If he doesn't make his move now, someone else will get the chances.

No point waiting for Fewkes. That would probably be another 3 months. Then you have 8 months wasted. Get that British title, make some good title defences vs guys like Fewkes, and then see what we think of him.

Bottom line. Developing a young fighter is an art. The last 5 months have been an eg of how not to move a prospect. Murray has the talent, the right trainer, the schooling but not the learning curve opponents. Consider Amir Khan with his ama style and chin problem - if he was being languished like Murray, he would be in some trouble.

I hope Fewkes gets his chance.
I am more convinced than ever, that he has the perfect style to beat Murray.

You have got to favour Fewkes i would imagine.

I think Murray will vacate the English which Fewkes is mandatory for, in hopes of going for the British.

Fewkes can have some nice fights for that title; Murray I'm confident can win the British, make a good defence...Then they can both square off for the British when they're a bit more experienced and it'll be a brilliant fight.

Could have been put on the Apr 4 Thaxton-Romanov show on a lightweight themed night. Then his rust and inactiivty wouldn't have been as bad. Fancy having all that time off and then fighting a man introduced as "the Spoiler" after your original opponent pulls out.

soon I hope. Hennessy is staging the Thaxton-Meager rematch in a couple of months, that would be an ideal undercard appearance to get seen IMO. I'll try & find out - hopefully Murray's head cut doesn't cause any kind of layoff.

I was informed by a writer/DVD trader in Spain that Felix Lora was fast, aggressive and strong - with no power. Murray looks best vs strong guys and would've got credit for grinding out a tough win where lots of leather gets traded. He landed 4 or 5 terrific shots all night v Hamidi. He would have landed plenty of those on the Columbian-via-Spain.

The sad thing is that the fight with the "spoiler" goes on ITV and first timers will think he's no good which just isn't true.

I agree re the matchmaking. On a par with Calzaghe-Ashira/Bika level of wretched matchmaking.

Anyway, only 2 fights ago Yuri Romanov didn't look much better than Murray last night and look where he is now.

Terry, I'd rather see Murray have 12 rds to beat Fewskey for a bigger title. Imagine if it gets to the end of this year with no British title shot. Bad news IMO...

Thats two fights on the trot where Murray looked bad, yes he is in a rut at the moment. I laughed at the suggestion he might fight Khan. Khan would give him all sorts of problems, and a loss. I dont think Murray will get past British level myself. Had last nights opponent had more notice and time to prepare I think he could have won that fight. Murray is too upright and lacks side to side movement IMO.

Hamidi has been on form recently. Beat Crolla and made John Simpson look horrid. Guy specialises in making others look bad. Murray did better than Simpson and the Manc has more class and variety than he was able to show in Nottingham.

Meagers gonna slaughter YThaxton this time so John could get his shot at the Britsih; Murray can bash up Meager.

Al Hamidi won that fight for me, of course he was never going to get the win unless he KO'd Murray but again - showing what a farce pro boxing is turning into.

Anyway I would like to see Murray fight Limond next!!

if Hamedi was the house fighter he would have been given the decision, its as simple as that. Hamedi won it for me aswell. I have zero confidence in Murry, he is going nowhere. he had potential maybe, but the ref cant gift him decisions fot the rest of his career.

I had Murray just sneaking it, but a draw, or even the syrians hand being raised was by no means out of the question.

You're just being rude now. I've said above that I also had Al Hamidi winning it. Everyone's entitled to their opinion.
