Does Amir Khan have a chance of winning a world title?
Re: Does Amir Khan have a chance of winning a world title?
I really do think Haye' chin is better than some people say. He had to kill himself to lose all that fight from the Bonin fight when he took on Mormeck and that's got to affect his legs, because even at that weigh-in, Haye's legs looked a little thinnish to me. I also haven't seem the Mock knockdown, so I can't tell you about that but I believe once Haye gets to his natural fighting weight of around 225lbs then he will have such a better punch resistance, because losing that much weight to make cruiser can't be good for your legs once you get tagged. And people forget that Haye ended the fight against Thompson on his feet and took incredible shots but still appeared 'there' and probably could've continued for a bit longer, but Booth did the right thing in pulling him out.

Why are you all talking about 'versions' of world titles again, as if that means anything?
Can Khan become THE world champion? No, he can't. Never in a billion years.
Can he be a paper titlist with a 'respected' sanctioning body? No again, but who cares anyway?

Re: Does Amir Khan have a chance of winning a world title?
OFcourse he does. If his opponent doesn't manage to KO Khan hes going to win more rounds. Khan does get hurt but he fights back, covers up and survives when hes hurt so far. If he tightens up his defense and sticks and moves a bit more . Fighters also take more chances against lesser opposition, if Khans an underdog he may leave less openings while hes racking up those rounds in the bank.
On an interesting note has anyone predicted Amir Khan to get outboxed by many fighters? People see him getting ko'd but if he doesnt against guys like David Diaz/Katsidis/Campbell they have little chance of beating him. Even Casamayor and Pacman don't have much edge over him in the outscoring department. Also Khan may get hurt but like Morales he comes firing back. Also don't tell me Cotto hasnt been in the same position as Khan against Torres/Corley/Mosley/Judah because he has, although this is obviously on a higher level.
I think Khan will have a love affair with the British public. His fights will be dramatic, he'll get ko'd sometime but will get some big scalps too in very exciting fights. The Gomez/Limmond fights were massively exciting events and its going to get even bigger and better in the world stage. I was cheering for Gomez and Limmond but was pleased to see Amir come firing back.
Khan will become a world champion but it may not be on the first time of asking

Define 'the world champion', Casamayor is the Linear/Ring Champ and is old with a low workrate. It wouldn't be completely suprising for Khan to outwork and outmuscle the aging champ. Many though Cruz beat Casamayor - would Khan beat Cruz YES he would. Khan should fight Cruz because hes a better boxer and Cruz isnt a puncher. Cruz would also be the tallest fighter Khans faced

What do you base all this on?Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote: Many though Cruz beat Casamayor - would Khan beat Cruz YES he would. Khan should fight Cruz because hes a better boxer and Cruz isnt a puncher
Khans been fighting Limond, Earl and Gomez and you seem to think he'll walk world class fights.
Where exactly is the basis for this? He hasn't competed near that level and had torrid times with domestic class. He clearly has his limiatations.
Casamayors battering of Katsidis is a fairer judge of his class and standing in world boxing. Khan cant beat any version of Casamyor IMO.
Re: Does Amir Khan have a chance of winning a world title?
Casamayor didn't batter Katsidis after that 1st round - it was Katsidis' eagerness for the knockout that cost him that fight.

Mock was a hitter, who absolutely walloped Haye with a full bloodied power shot to the temple. Nothing like the shots that have put Amir on the deck.

Have you seen Katsidis after the fight-- head the size of a lemon and soaked in crimson.Dioufy wrote:Casamayor didn't batter Katsidis after that 1st round - it was Katsidis' eagerness for the knockout that cost him that fight.
He was battered.
You say it was Katsidis eagerness for the knockout that cost him? I say it was Casamayors skill and experience told.
But, whatever you want to believe...

Re: Does Amir Khan have a chance of winning a world title?
Katsidis cuts up against anyone and he was leading at the time if the stoppage, even with him being knocked down twice.
Re: Does Amir Khan have a chance of winning a world title?
Fwank will steer Khan in the right direction, which will be a mickey mouse bunch of fighters masqueraded as "former double world champions"...
Re: Does Amir Khan have a chance of winning a world title?
Yeah, Katsidis walked on to the shots on purpose, knocked himself out, LOLoverhand_right wrote:Have you seen Katsidis after the fight-- head the size of a lemon and soaked in crimson.Dioufy wrote:Casamayor didn't batter Katsidis after that 1st round - it was Katsidis' eagerness for the knockout that cost him that fight.

Do you mean face the size of a melon?
Re: Does Amir Khan have a chance of winning a world title?
Winning a world title isn`t such a big thing now-a-days .. its the keeping hold of it against worthy challengers that counts.
Yes - he`ll be handed a world title ala Alex Arthur style.

Re: Does Amir Khan have a chance of winning a world title?
Katsidis was impressive against Casamayor and hurt him big a few times - he was way a head on the cards and started that 10th round like a madman, he's even admitted since that it was a mistake. If he would've looked at the situation objectively then he would've won, no doubt.

And i'm not even drunk today.

Katsidis would walk through Khan's shots and KO him.

Re: Does Amir Khan have a chance of winning a world title?
I would give chance a fair chance of winning a world title now. He is quick enough out of the blocks to make a mark early in a fight and win tthe first few, and has world class hand speed and pretty impressive accuraccy.
However, he is about 18-24 months from being properly ready, and in that time he will progress a lot.
He is always going to be a little vulnerable, because he has a long neck and carries his head very high, but he is very fast strong and explosive at 135.
A dominant champion, that's not a question we can't answer yet.

Re: Does Amir Khan have a chance of winning a world title?
Huge mismatch between his strengths and weaknesses - his speed of hand during offense and range of punches are as exciting as anything we've seen from a british fighter for the past decade.
However his tactical defence and punch resistance at domestic level are worse than, oh I don't know, Anthony Farnell say. Fighters like Scott Harrison, Michael Brodie, even Colin Dunne were not as tested at domestic level as Khan so it doesn't bode well for the legendary status Khan continually lectures us about.
He has to be a different fighter, remake himself, to be a major force at world level and with the entourage of fawning hangers on he has around himself, and the money he already has in the bank, I doubt it somehow.

Take another look how much he missed against the infamously impossible to miss Michael Gomezjamesmcdonnell wrote:I would give chance a fair chance of winning a world title now. Thought you just wrote you`d give him a fair chance of winning a world title nowjamesmcdonnell wrote: However, he is about 18-24 months from being properly ready, and in that time he will progress a lot..
In 18-24mths he will be another weight up again .. and he can`t hold a punch at the weight he is now

Re: Does Amir Khan have a chance of winning a world title?
What about Gomez in all of this? I think he did okay considering he is damaged goods. When Barry McGuigan claimed he was less shopworn than Earl i raised my eyebrows but he may have been right after all. Plus in his post fight interview he did not rant away but gave some constructive and even complimentary words, fair play.
However, it's time to hang up the gloves i think. Taking those sort of punches are never good for a fighter but especially after a long, hard career. The way his noggin was bouncing back and forth off the thudding combinations made me wince.

The reason I make the comparison is because they are both super talented former amateur stars with a reputation for fragility.
Haye has still managed to be the best in the world, overcoming these limitations due to his punch power, fighting heart and of course the afore mentioned talent

I think it's possible he can pick up a world title somewhere down the line.
But he also looks extremely beatable so I wouldn't bet on it.
Frank must be really worried now about young Amir!

I think you are quite right, that is if Khan has any sense and if his ego hasn't got too bigteddy007 wrote:Thinking about it, i think thats just what allegedly allegedly wanted to happen to amir.....knocked down and given a hard time by a blown up super featherweight. This will keep him in order and he wont risk leaving warren anytime soon through fear of being over matched because you can guarantee that wont happen with fw.
However he may leave Warren now because he feels he has been matched too hard!!!
