Not a Khan fan but Super feather and Lightweight only have a 5 pound weight difference, hardly that huge.
It can be a big difference in the lighter weight divisions. You only had to look at Khan and Gomez last night to see the disparity.

The only big difference Is that Khan naturally should move up a weight and his height.

Surely only the 1st round Stu?

Gomez showed a lot of humility in the interview and if he had been 5 years younger i believe he may have got Khan out of there.

Then again if he was 5 years younger then there's no way he would have been in there in the first place

hats - sombrero's - off to gomez. this fight showed amir's faults more than ever.
doesnt fight well on the backfoot, is open to a range of shots and will go down when caught. great handspeed and decent power will take him to a world title but you can almost hear the swelling ranks of boxers fancying their chances against him.
5 pounds? max, if your a natural superfeather and your pitted against a natural light welter, which is what amir really is, you got some disadvantage to get over.

What a silly comment.

It's equally as stupid as saying that Pavlik is just a one dimensional slugger

We knew he had a warriors heart and would give all he had for as long as he could .. sadly he cannot give his all for more than a few rnds anymore .. this is why I always said this match-up was dangerous and disgusting.. Gomez was always going to go out on his shield...everybody knew he`d be swinging like a good-un for a few rnds then start absorbing the big counters before getting bashed up.

He did better than Frank and Khan expected/wanted .. but it still went to plan didn`t it

Michael Gomez will always be remembered with respect.

To be fair mate most people though Mike would last one ro two rounds, very few said he'd last 3, even less 4 and hardly anyone picked him to see tyhe 5th.

And no, it didnt go to plan. Khan hit the deck and was hurt by Gomez. He also couldnt box to plan. Had he of kept boxing as he did in the first gomez might have gone in the 2nd. Khans credibility has gone down after that fight imo.

:) I picked Khan to win in two and as the fight unfolded was on the edge of my seat. Khan boxed Mike's fight and paid for it. Now he's going to have an even tougher time proving he's the real deal.

Gomez showed plenty of heart, has a good chin and while he was fucked after the third, he kept going. Warrior. His stock has risen in defeat, might get a couple of oportunities he wouldn't have if he hadn't have taken the fight.

A few years back he wins, as mentioned a few years back he does not get the call. He was a super-feather who had seen better eyars and was struggling at British level on this comeback. His punch is slow but I am starting to think that as long as you land on Khan you can get him going. Credit to Gomez, brave fight.
One thing I will credit Khan with however, is that when hurt, he looks to hurt his opponent in return. That body shot he sunk into the diaghram against Gomez was a real peach.

Of course, against prime fighters who are top class, fighting back when hurt can be a double edged sword, but Khan does certainly have 'a bit of devil in his work' as Watt would say.

Gomez is a true warrior, sometimes reminds me of the pepperami character from the adverts, just keeps coming and coming. He’ll be a good test for any prospect out there but I wouldn’t want to see him go on indefinitely as he with his fighting heart takes too much punishment. Maybe he should restrict himself to just 4 rounders if he does return.

I hope he goes into training as he needs boxing I feel to keep his nose out of trouble, could you imagine him as a trainer? Imagine one of his charges not putting in 100%, he would get a right bollocking. I wouldn’t want a roasting from him!

He'd need to relax a bit more form the Gomez Ive seen ringside if he were to train fighters,I remember him ringside for a Brian Rose fight, he threw more punches than Rose.

Great little domestic fighter and who knows, if he weren't such a 'character' maybe he could have gone on to better things after the Arthur fight.

He exposed massive chinks in Khan's armour and that in itself was an achievement. Khan's damaged goods and he doesn't have power of a Naz or Benn, or Haye even, to take him to the very top.

A shame, because Khan is a good role model. Apart from being a pretty crappy driver, he's ploughed £700,000 of his money into that gym in Bolton for youngsters. Credit where it's due and all that.

Does anyone think Khan's deficiencies highlight a widening gap in the difference between the amateur game and professional boxing, ie, while I'm not saying world-class amateur boxing is not a very tough sport, it is more based on scoring shots and is more of a technical sport than it was, say even 10 years ago. It's about landing scoring shots, not getting in the trenches and overpowering your opponent. From what I've seen, some of the physicality has left the sport (IMHO). Hope what I'm trying to say is not misconstrued because I've boxed as a very ordinary club amateur and no sport I've done has come close to being as tough as boxing.

why does khan cede the centre of the ring so easily? also he begins his back pedaling rather well then a round goes by and he looks awful on the back foot.
its as if his balance is affected if he retreats for more than a few mins. maybe his calf muscles tighten up, i have seen that problem before. i cant explain it but he really only looks good going forward. i reckon he'll beat most rear guard action fighters he faces with his excellent hand speed but it'll be a front foot nik with a bit of savvy and good head movement that'll prove his downfall.

he has also turned the old "20 to learn - 20 to earn" saying upside down. he has earned a fortune in his 18 fights but is going to have to carry on learning way past his 20th fight if he is ever going to be a true world beater.

he's likeable though and just believes the hype a little too much.
