Yeh, I've always thought of Pickering as a decent sort, which was why I was so shocked by it - he literally brushed shoulders with him on a couple of occasions post-fight, but never came close to acknowledging him. Can only think that he realised his career is basically over and was so despondent he couldn't focus on anything else?chesh wrote:I noticed that, too. Marsh vs Pickering result?

Super fight, both gave their all.....the British Title fight crackers just keep on coming.
Marsh was like a little tear-away in there and Pickering just couldn't keep up with him. Wonderful performance on the back of just 10 fights behind him. Pickering showed the heart of champion and went out with his pride intact.
A few other things from the show, piss poor decision from Parris giving Bird the nod over Walker. Great work rate from Bird over the first 3 rounds, but the power and quality was from Walker and he put the seal on it with totally dominant last round. Best I've seen his defence from some years and he appeared to only find out it was a 4 rounder once he was in the ring
As unimpressive as Lee Purdey he clearly won his fight with the Kenyan guy IMO. Another poor deicision IMO.
John O'Donnell looked great. Looked like he was getting his confidence in the first round but as soon he did he put on a dazzling display blitzing Morris with every punch in the book until Morris folded in the last.

What happened in the Purdy fight? Didn't he show enough workrate? The lad looked brilliant in his previous fight.
Re: Marsh vs Pickering result?
Yeah, I hope combination of being completely knackered giving it his all and the despondent that he's finished was what it was.Deserter wrote:Yeh, I've always thought of Pickering as a decent sort, which was why I was so shocked by it - he literally brushed shoulders with him on a couple of occasions post-fight, but never came close to acknowledging him. Re: Marsh vs Pickering result?
Once Purdey's opponent got used to Lee's punches he managed to peck and poke his shots and also make Purdey miss quite a bit. There didn't appear to be much power in the Kenyan's punches.
That said, Purdey worked hard enough and landed the more telling shots to win but just didn't look anything to get excited about on the night.

Re: Marsh vs Pickering result?
I dont think it was sour grapes, you have to understand that if that was the case Pickering must of just been so disappointed in himself that he didn't perform the way he can, in fact he must of felt sick to his stomach in reflecting about what had just happened, I suspect that he was in a daze of disbelief of feeling that he had gave his title away to Marsh who he was so sure of beating, I dont think that Marsh's feelings are hurt if Pickering didn't take time to congratulate him, in the same way we didn't see Marsh give his condolances to Pickering who has been a great ambassidor and champion to the sport. It's not really worth making an issue overDeserter wrote:Unless I missed something, I was really surprised and disappointed by Pickering's lack of sportsmanship at the end - not once did I see him go over to hug or even acknowledge Marsh. HOW DID DWAYNE LEWIS LOOK AN DO?
Re: Marsh vs Pickering result?
I'm not making an issue over it - as I clearly stated I was just surprised and disappointed. I know what you're saying re. Pickering being disappointed in himself, but I honestly can't remember the last time I saw a boxer fail to acknowledge another after the fight. One of the things I love about this sport is the level of sportsmanship shown after the event and I just don't like to see it absent, regardless of the circumstances.Marc . wrote:I dont think it was sour grapes, you have to understand that if that was the case Pickering must of just been so disappointed in himself that he didn't perform the way he can, in fact he must of felt sick to his stomach in reflecting about what had just happened, I suspect that he was in a daze of disbelief of feeling that he had gave his title away to Marsh who he was so sure of beating, I dont think that Marsh's feelings are hurt if Pickering didn't take time to congratulate him, in the same way we didn't see Marsh give his condolances to Pickering who has been a great ambassidor and champion to the sport. Re: Marsh vs Pickering result?
watching that fight i couldn't help but think the pickering of his european title days would have outboxed a tryer like marsh.
marsh fully deserved the win. i thought he was gassing around the midway stage but got it back together and bossed the later stages.
i wonder if michael hunter makes that return.

Surely it would be a 9 stone though?hitman_hatton1 wrote:watching that fight i couldn't help but think the pickering of his european title days would have outboxed a tryer like marsh.![]()

Yes I see your good point, I can understand where your coming and maybe Pickering congratulated Marsh after, Im sure he would have or intended toDeserter wrote:I'm not making an issue over it - as I clearly stated I was just surprised and disappointed. Dwayne Lewis did a good enough job on Ambler, who just came to survive or so it seemed.
Looks a reasonable puncher, but lets see how he does when the opponents are punching back.
