Big Bad John wrote:Mike Tyson having a "solid chin" is so overrated. Lewis was knocked out twice, and he avenged both defeats. Tyson was knocked out six times, and he didn't avenge any of those defeats. Tyson's fundamental flaws are more of a liability than Lewis's chin.
five times.

It happens.
Tyson lost to Douglas because he had seven months of inactivity and legal bullshit before the fight.
Tyson beat guys who beat Douglas. Douglas fought well that night and Tyson was below his best.
The Tyson that fought Bruno would have lost to Douglas as well.
However the Tyson that fought Ruddock and Stewart would have dealt to Douglas. Poor performances are part of boxing.
The Holyfield of the first tyson fight would have never lost to moorer.
We can go on forever with poor performances. Gee I wish Douglas, Tyson and Bruno and Holyfield were around today.

Seven months of inactivity?!@?!? That's the worst excuse I've heard for a loss since Vinny Pazienza said that he lost to Roy Jones because of caffeine withdrawl, or that Felix Trinidad lost to Bernard Hopkins because of 9/11. How do you come up with this ridiculous bullshit? Tyson lost to Buster Douglas because he lost nearly every round of that fight and then got knocked out.

Seven moths doesn't seem like a long time at all...

I know this goes against the grain of what most people are saying but I feel the destructive force that was Mike Tyson aged 21 would be hard to beat for any heavyweight of any era.
I know that in his loss to Douglas he was physically still at his peak but I feel that he had lost many of the team around him that kept him contained and focused. I think if he has Rooney training him and in the corner he beats Douglas.

Mike Tyson vs Lennox Lewis in their respective primes is a picke 'em fight. Tyson's chin stood up to the artillary of men like Bonecrusher Smith, Frank Bruno and Razor Ruddock and he was well capable of dealing with taller more rangy men. So I think his chances are reasonably good.. just not a given. Was he the best knockout artist of all time? Not for me.. That distinction goes to Joe Louis.

Seven months is not a sufficient amount of time for that to be used as a valid explanation for a loss. no.. But over the previous year Tyson had only seen about 93 seconds of ring action against Carl Williams, after years of fighting numerous times annually. So there may be some validity to a tad of ring rust. In addition he had been working with a team of trainers over the past year and a half who were clearly not well suited to his needs.. The corner work was terrible. I mean using a condom filled with water to reduce swelling? Ad that to his recent divorce, legal battles, and the distractions of stardom and I don't think we were looking at the same man who flattened Pinklon Thomas in '87...
