TV Deals
Re: TV Deals
Does anyone really think Khan is a future PPV star? I don't think he's got the personality if I'm honest.
Naz made you laugh with his cockiness...Khan is just naive and brash.

Re: TV Deals
True. But it probably doesn't matter. He's fast, encourages better relations between Muslims - has the right face, in other words - is a name from the Olympics and has some good athletic ability.Gray-Fox wrote:Does anyone really think Khan is a future PPV star? When he gets to the stage where he's in big, big fights, they will be PPV. I really think he would be better served moving up to 140 and having a massive fight with Hatton, once Hatton has faded some more (maybe even dragging him out of retirement).

Re: TV Deals
I wonder how Calzaghe leaving affected ther Setanta/Warren relationship.
Setanta can't be happy, now left with the likes of Maccarinelli, Rees and Lockett who have all lost world title shots this year, Derry Matthews who got beaten and some average Heavyweights.
Kevin Mitchell and Michael Jennings are the only potential stars and that's pushing it.

Re: TV Deals
Froch and Witter v Bradley only drew about 2m on primetime on a Saturday night, for ITV that is terrible viewing figures. Khan draws in between 5-6m for his fights.
Re: TV Deals
He could get out of his deal with setanta I am sure, but Khan is the golden draw.
Re: TV Deals
yeah but two of the opponents pulled out and Witter ended up the headliner.johnftiz wrote:Froch and Witter v Bradley only drew about 2m on primetime on a Saturday night, for ITV that is terrible viewing figures. Khan draws in between 5-6m for his fights.
Re: TV Deals
So a lot of ppl are saying just Warren and Khan over to Sky. I bet Sky doesn't give a damn about Arthur, Mac & Rees.leforge wrote:He could get out of his deal with setanta I am sure, but Khan is the golden draw.
Can Warren get out of his Setanta contract by promoting outside of the Sports Network banner? Isn't it Warren, not Sports Network, who has the promoter's licence?
whatashambles, how about Kell Brook?wonder how Calzaghe leaving affected ther Setanta/Warren relationship.

That was basically my point although not worded very well. I said maybe as in if he was in a big fight.twenty six wrote:Art of War,
Are you taking the piss ?
Witter - a genuine ticket selling headliner ?
Which planet have you been on ?
I just can't see a 10 fight deal unless Meaty Mick has some signings up his sleeve.
What's left if Khan beats Murray, Froch loses his tilt at the World Title, and will Witter get another chance ?
Re: TV Deals
Just watched again they said new contracts to be annouced, it must be Khan and co.

Re: TV Deals
I will be genuinally surprised if Warren leaves Setanta, perhaps I am wrong but he is getting paid good money to put on shows, in addition I would be stunned if Setanta would allow that to happen just when they are building a reasonably good portfolio of boxers and promoters.
With regards to Khan, I think he will be with his promoter and will showcase his skills on Setanta.
Sky is interesting.
I think they will announce a deal with Matchroom as happens each year and also Maloney Promotions, you guys are forgetting Punch Promotions want to make a splash in the promotional stakes, and Fight Academy are also going to making announcements sometime soon.
With regards to Hennessy, I would not be surprised if he signs with ITV for when Froch fights but I would again be surprised if he gets a 10 fight deal.
With the speculation on this thread, lets see who gets the closest to being right.

I think it was Khan they were talking about, Hatton will be on sky he loves his ppv money
Re: TV Deals
Sept 6th bill is shaping up to be:
Khan
2 WBO world title fights
audley harrison
2 english title fights
that all adds up to it being on sky box office to me. I can't see Warren packing his bill with all that if the fights only gonna be on Setanta, when was the last time he made an effort to be a quality undercard on?

Re: TV Deals
Yes that makes sense bo office. I am sure he can get out of his contract with setanta in some way.
Re: TV Deals
Does allegedly have a contract with Setanta, or does Sports Network? Could there be some kind of way out, in the difference?
Not long ago, we were hearing about a 3-year exclusive deal (exclusive in that Warren's "big names" were exclusive to Setanta) and the lovely friendship between Warren and Trevor East.
The deal obviously didn't include Khan. So ITV is through with Khan, Khan can fight on Sky. The main question is, will Warren's "big names" (now Arthur, Macca, Rees) & co join them?

Re: TV Deals
Ok - in for a penny in for a pound.
My best guess will be :
Setanta - Haymaker, Punch Promotions and Hennessy.
Sky - Wazza Maloney Hearn.
ITV - Out of the game.
BBC - Out of the game.
I have no idea at all where Fight Academy will spring up - but I think it will either be Sky or Setanta.
Probably miles off but that's my punt.

Re: TV Deals
I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the one free agent out there that SKY could definitely get who's fighting in the same month as the announcement.
I still don't understand how it can be Khan if he's on the September bill with Setanta fighters (Arthur and Enzo).
Unless of course the Contract stated Sports Network fighters excluding Khan and he creates a new brand and ships the SN fighters over.

Re: TV Deals
Aren't FA signed to Setanta aswell.... or is that deal finished.
We got the Woods' fights and the Dunne fight cause of the FA connections.

Setanta - Sportsnetwork (Nothing new, nothing changed) + Haymaker
Sky TV - Maloney & Hearn
ITV - Hennessy with Carl Froch shows only
and with regards the rest expect some surprises.
