As main support he's going to catch a few of their eyes, no doubt.

hatton got his fan base by putting him on bills with other good ticket sellers like farnell & gomez

that just got the ball rolling and he then developed his own base from good atmospheres in general and good displays

murray will never get the profile just GET a huge base, they have to be built, and i dont think his promo stable has the strenght and depth of the farnel/gomez/hatton combo

It's hardly going to do him any harm and that's my whole point. Quit being negative, please.

Beating Thaxton would get some Hatton fans interested, especially if Murray knocked Thaxton out.

agreed if the fight was in manchester and the venue was near full, maybe on a Moorsey Card or somat

he needs to fight on a live bill in his area and attempt to 'steal' other boxers fans - its the best way to do it

his promo has been shocking to date, he gets more press off TerryD than anyone else and only hardcore fans read BBN

Call em a cynic but I can't see Murray being welcomed with open arms by Steve Wood or Vip, or vice versa.

taking hattons fans is just dreamland

if he had stuck with VIP he could have been the perfect candiate to swipe moorseys fans, cause he can sella few 1000

I was thinking some more about the next opponent. I'd like to see him fight someone line Zahir Raheem or Steve Forbes by the close of the year.

Both would be live opponents, just the other side of their peaks and not big at the weight but with plenty of resume highlights.

Forbes via contender and going distance with DLH and Raheem for that victory over Morales.

I dont think either would cost the earth.

Step up from anything he's faced thus far....

or either

but that meant splitting Murray from his long term trainer didn't it? perhaps John Murray will get his own following, now he has the British title.

Taking Hattons fans may be far off. Because Hatton got the fans by fighting on Gomez & Farnell shows. Murray, obvviously, doesn't fight on Hatton shows.

Khan.

Murray doesn't offer either of the yanks anything, beating Khan would be news.

Too big a step, I think. Raheem completely outboxed Morales and is a slick, experienced operator. Forbes is both highly skilled and as hard as nails. He wasn't hurt by DLH at 150, way above his natural weight. I think he intends to campaign at 140 now anyway.

Going back to Murray here a minute. I am not saying that Murray will gain each and every single Hatton fan but fighting and doing well on a Hatton bill will do him good. I am sure he's gained a few more fans after dismantling Meager, me included, so why won't it benefit him to fight on a Hatton bill, especially in America as well. I think it's win/win unless he gets beat, and once Thaxton loses against Melaro (I think he will lose) then a date in January/February with Jono will provide him with more fans, providing he beats him well (which I think he would). Furthermore, I think Murray's in a good position here if Hennessy manages him right.

I was going to say, have we all been watchin the same Murray?

Decent fighter, but talk of Khan and comparisons with Hatton are way wide of the mark IMO.

Raheem would be a massive test for Khan at this stage, a huge step up. Forbes would be a better idea, good name and decent fighter edging towards 'opponent' status....

Murray brings very little to the table, he'd be going backwards again. He battered Earl then schooled St Clair, followed by a washed-up Gomez and possibly Murray? Not good progress IMO.

Would be a decent fight while it lasted, but Murray would not beat Khan, no chance. What has Khan to gain? He's something of a threat but would go in as a massive underdog.

Khan beats him and it's no surprise, if he gets tagged a few times along the way he'll "never be a world champ" and people "can't wait to see him knocked-out".

Needs to step-up, Forbes is a good bet for me. Or Romanov.

How can you say that Khan would definitely beat Murray? Of course he's massive favourite but Murray is a big and powerful lad, who's naturally the biggest fighter he would've been in against. Murray also showed real power in stopping Meager, so he would definitely have that puncher's chance. But come on, it's a tad bit ignorant to call Murray a backward step, because for me, it's the next logical step up. Oh, and I think Romanov counters and stops Khan - he was mean in the way he slowly took Thaxton apart.

I can confidently say Khan would beat Murray because he is quicker, has lightning hand speed, is more accurate, punches very hard and has ten times more ability.

Murray may catch him with the odd shot and maybe have in trouble during the fight, but I personally don't see him winning. That's my opinion and Im sticking to it :D

He struggled with Hamidi and has beaten Lee Meager in his last two fights. If I were Khan I'd be looking for better than that having disposed of Gomez, Earl, St Clair and co....Forbes is a good idea.

Khan has looked fragile and a little inconsistent, but he's still world class and will be a world champion if he tightens his defence. Murray is Euro class at best. No shame in that, he's a good boxer, but not as good as Khan.

The Murray that beat Meager may beat Khan - I think anyone has a puncher's chance against Khan, everyone.

Theres no way Warren would put Khan in with Forbes and if he did khan would get knocked out imo...The fight i would like to see at this stage would be against Augustus,he will be getting gud exposure on the fight night game and he has been in with top fighters over the years and holds a win over Thaxton. (hes far too risky for Warren tho)

They're both potential world class. Both lads have titles now and both will get better and better.

Khan accurate? Fast, explosive, good finisher. But hardly accurate - because he's a flashy, flurry fighter - and leaves his chin up in the air when he wades in. Anyone with an accurate, hard punch and a calm enough temperament like a Murray or Romanov will pose a serious risk, and if Khan is WBO #2, they are unlikely to take that risk. Murray is willing to take that risk. Romanov is willing to take that risk.

Khan is 10 times flashier than Murray, but flashiness doesn't always mean that much. In Britain, flashiness = fast hands, fast feet, improv technique and a wide open defence. Khan is akin to the Yank former ama stars like Dirrell and Ward. Murray's a superbly well schooled pressure fighter, who doesn't rely on things like natural speed. Both very promising. Murray needs the oportunities (which will come now he has British title) & Khan just needs tightening up technically by that Cuban guy in Miami. That haye turned out well from similar experience bodes well for Amr, maybe.

Autobarn's right here. I can't see how Khan would easily beat Murray - did you see how accurate and how much snap was in Murray's punches against Meager? He literally didn't waste a punch and did such a better job on Meager than anyone has ever done. Khan is fast, and he does carry a bit of power but he's always had the weight advantage where he can walk through jabs - he's always been done with the single hook (Limond and Gomez - I haven't seen the Drizlane 'knock down').

Murray's a big lad for the weight as well, so that causes a different type of problem that Khan has never faced before - how will he be able to push back someone as equally strong as him, or maybe stronger? Again, no one knows how he will react. I mean surely Sports Network know something about Khan that we don't (he is chinny is sparring as well?) because if he had the talent that we all see against smaller fighters then they would have no harm in filling up the MEN Arena against a Thaxton or Rees. I reckon Sports Network are really worried about Khan at the moment, hence no big fight against a big lightweight, in size and/or reputation.

their not going to put him in a big fight next when he aint got a trainer

the reason they put him in with smaller guys is cause its the SN way, feck all to do with his chin....ala Hatton

i said it before, im no bothered who his next oppo is, its the one after that that matters............. if the one after is a tomatoe can then i wont defend the lad, but at the minute im happy with te matchmaking.... who else has been matched tougher ???????????..... cause it sure as shit aint Murray

u'd think so, but you still get some punks saying he needs to fight Thaxton next... and so on and so forth

i do want him to fight Murray next, think it would be good for both lads, Khan would clear up and Murray, should put in a good show and boost his profile and maybe help him sell a few more tickets......but it wont happen cause hennessy will want it on his bill when he doesnt hold ANY aces
