Re: WHO WOULD YOU RATHER FIGHT FRAZIER OR MARCIANO
I think its clear to those of us who know boxing that Frazier was pretty incessant himself. Rocky wouldn't look so good with Ali and Foreman and could have been stopped by either of those fighters; Frazier would go through a 37 year old Louis or a 38 year old Walcott or a 34 year old Charles like a hot knife through butter.
Re: WHO WOULD YOU RATHER FIGHT FRAZIER OR MARCIANO
i'd take marciano but i'd be very respectful to him during the press conference.
Re: WHO WOULD YOU RATHER FIGHT FRAZIER OR MARCIANO
..i've given this some additional thought, and if i came into the ring with a catcher' s mask , a cast iron foul cup and a good unbiased referee i'd not only fight him, but, as his main weapons would not be in effect i'd have a chance at beating him.
Re: WHO WOULD YOU RATHER FIGHT FRAZIER OR MARCIANO
I'd fight Frazier if I had too, although I feel Frazier was the better figher he would beat you clean. Marciano was a very dirty fighter he'd elbow you, low blow you and then when he knocks you down he will hit you again.

Re: WHO WOULD YOU RATHER FIGHT FRAZIER OR MARCIANO
Most top fighters would have a better chance against Marciano.
Marciano may have thrown slightly more punches than Frazier, but Frazier connected more often. Frazier was a much more accurrate puncher.
Marciano was also easier to hit than Frazier. Frazier showed more head movement, and sometimes after Marciano missed badly, he left himself open.

Re: WHO WOULD YOU RATHER FIGHT FRAZIER OR MARCIANO
another point is this; when did frazier absolutely destroy an opponent, really ruin him? joe roman was beaten up pretty bad but not too many guys left the ring after a bout with joe with thoughts of never going in there again. marciano, on the other hand, could make a guy think seriously about alternative ways to earn a living.
Re: WHO WOULD YOU RATHER FIGHT FRAZIER OR MARCIANO
harrygreb - some of the guys marciano fought didn't have to worry about income as thet were eligible for social security..
Re: WHO WOULD YOU RATHER FIGHT FRAZIER OR MARCIANO
Marciano's poor defense is a misnomer. If you check out Sullivan's book on Rocky, he quotes several opponents - notably, if I recall, LaStarza - and trainers who point out that Rocky was quite adept at defense, and really didn't get hit solidly too much. One of his opponents said that Rocky looked easy to hit from ringside, but it was a different story inside the ropes.Ambling Alp wrote:Most top fighters would have a better chance against Marciano.

No, it really was bad. Just about every fight of his that is on film shows he was easy to hit. Walcott, La Starza, Moore, and Charles didn't have a lot of trouble hitting him. Even Louis at that stage was able to hit him, but he just couldn't follow up.raylawpc wrote:Marciano's poor defense is a misnomer. LaStarza, the one trying to do the hitting, disagreed. As did Angelo Dundee and Jimmy Breslin. So did Charlie Goldman, but arguably Charlie had an axe to grind.Ambling Alp wrote:No, it really was bad. Just about every fight of his that is on film shows he was easy to hit. Re: WHO WOULD YOU RATHER FIGHT FRAZIER OR MARCIANO
I think Marciano is better.
But I would fight him, just for the honor of it... I'd porbably last a full 20 seconds... I can run like a bitch.
HA HA HA HA.

Ambling Amp,
Just so you know... Muhammad Ali said (after the sparring sessions with Marciano) that Rocky kept his head crouched and moved it form side-to-sisde...
He was actually difficult to hit from the outside, believe it or not.
On seocnd thought: I'd still fight Marciano, but I'd bring with me a shotgun.

Re: WHO WOULD YOU RATHER FIGHT FRAZIER OR MARCIANO
I disagree. While Rocky was certainly no Willie Pep, the films I’ve seen show a fellow who used his crouch very effectively. He rolled and weaved under punches very well, and, I think, did a good job slipping punches. The films I've seen reveal a guys who was hard to hit solidly.Ambling Alp wrote:No, it really was bad. Too much is made out of the Ali-Marciano computer movie fight...
James Toney said Will Smith would have made a great heavyweight from the sparring they did for the biopic, Ali...

When I saw it in the movies I thought it was ok...But I have the DVD and have seen it innumerable times and like it better with each viewing...p4p1 wrote:i dont know how anyone could love that movieRobinson wrote:You loved 'Ali' the flick, didn't you :)
The fights in the movie do mirror the action of the real fights but the guy who played Liston was bigger and more muscular than the real Liston...
I thought James Toney as Frazier was great...
What didn't you like about it?
Re: WHO WOULD YOU RATHER FIGHT FRAZIER OR MARCIANO
i thought the fight scenes were exellent it was just the rest of the movie i cant put my finger on exactly what it was but just didnt click for meTheOneIsHere2008 wrote:When I saw it in the movies I thought it was ok...But I have the DVD and have seen it innumerable times and like it better with each viewing...p4p1 wrote:i dont know how anyone could love that movieRobinson wrote:You loved 'Ali' the flick, didn't you :)

I think the problem is it's hard to make a movie about someone that is alive and well known...We know Will Smith and we know Ali and it's hard to confuse the two...i thought the fight scenes were exellent it was just the rest of the movie i cant put my finger on exactly what it was but just didnt click for me

Then again Denzel Washington was more convincing as Malcom X than Malcom X was...
Back to the movie...I thought Jamie Foxx was great as Bundini Brown...Elijah Muhammad said he would rather convert Bundini Brown than 12,000 average men because he was such a Hell raiser...I grew up in Central Florida, not to far from Sanford , Florida where he was born...He's a riot...I was watching the Bonavena fight again and you can hear him hollering "hit the heavybag"-Bonavena... And I forgot the fight where he was hollering "Box like Sugar Ray"... When Frazier knocked down Ali in the first fight Bundini threw ice water on him to revive him which was clearly illegal...

Denzel is good in anything...Did you catch him in American Gangster with Russell Crowe?p4p1 wrote:almost finished watching that he is extremely good in that oneTheOneIsHere2008 wrote:I think the problem is it's hard to make a movie about someone that is alive and well known...We know Will Smith and we know Ali and it's hard to confuse the two...i thought the fight scenes were exellent it was just the rest of the movie i cant put my finger on exactly what it was but just didnt click for me

Spike Lee was talked about as a director instead of Michael Mann and he was going to use Denzel Washington as Ali...There was also talk that Oliver Stone would have directed it...
You could see the tension between Ali and Don King when King insulted Dundee and Ali said "don't you ever talk to Angee that way"...You can see Don King wanted Foreman to win...
Re: WHO WOULD YOU RATHER FIGHT FRAZIER OR MARCIANO
don king wants all his fighters to fear him but ali knew he was bigger than don king could ever be

Joe Louis is part of the story as he was a buddy of Frank Lucas in Harlem...p4p1 wrote:don king wants all his fighters to fear him but ali knew he was bigger than don king could ever be

I read an interesting thing about King...He hates fighters because he wished he could be one but couldn't...He refused to lend Larry Holmes $50.00 at one time...Arum isn't much better... I don't know about Golden Boy Promotions or DiBella...It seems there is enough money to be made without jerking people around...
