Darren Barker V Larry Sharp

Just a heads up in case anyone missed it. Don't remember a preview in the Boxing News though strangely. Mentioned on the TV Schedule thread as well by GaryG:
On the back of this weeks Boxing News Darren Barker V Larry Sharp on August 15th is advertised as being on the Fight Network.
Channel 427 on SKY.
Surely Barker will deal with Sharp. Tough operator, nice guy but stopped by Scott Dann a few years ago if i remember correctly. Any thoughts?

Just seems like the setting is the main challenge here for Barker. Shame the Commonwealth title can't be on the line.

I met Sharpe when he fought Scott - he was a really sound bloke. He didn't do anything spectacular in the ring - to me it seemed he's just a double hard b*stard who can take a punch and took up boxing to pay the bills. I saw that he was fighting at welterweight a while back and has fought up at 190 in the past!!?
He shouldn't trouble Barker, but then again he's got all the makings of causing an upset - he's no push over and can take a punch a go the distance.
I've just seen that this is in Canada - should make it interesting!

I remember Dann had an off night when he fought Sharp, but got the job done.
Body shots might be the key for Barker, as Sharp has a good chin

Darren Barker is fighting this Friday against experienced Canadian Larry Sharpe. This is a vital fight for Darren, as it would raise his profile globally. I believe he is set for big things in the next few years, and would love him go for Sylvester's EU title by the end of the year.
Your views on Barker...........

Very Good technical fighter and good enough to beat any other UK middleweight.
Not so sure he has that KO punch but has other assets and has a bit of amateur pedigree behind him.
We need to see him against Andy Lee or Smith.

Smith would be pointless-as Barker smashed Bendell and Bendell beat Smith!

Barker is ready for the best in the country IMO.
He lacks a bit of power from what I have seen but everything else looks spot on. Very well schooled and well trained boxer.
He could give Elcock fits I reckon but a win would not be guaranteed.

Increase his profile globally? Are you nuts?
He's fighting a 10 rounder on an event being covered by the Fight Network.
It's hardly a champsionship fight at MSG on HBO is it!

Do you reckon, maybe, they have heard of this new invention called the phone? Or maybe even e-mail and fax!
Why would Froch be involved in the negotiations anyway?

There's always the chance that Sharpe may have improved, but even an improved version shouldn't beat Barker. Good travelling experience (in the paid ranks) for Barker.
Points win for Darren.
Excellent news that this one's on the Fight Network. Some exposure is better than nothing.
