it is over cross country or road or any course that the PTI deems acceptable for the test, this personal one was in bosnia and was partly uphill. this guy did pass first time, only 4 people passed the selection on his course out of over 90 !!

its not the size of the dog in the fight, its the size of the fight in the dog !!
In your opinion rhino, is the SAS test harder than the Paratrooper course? My mate took the latter and some of the things they had to do was unbelievable.

You only get one try anyway, dont you?
I think you can try as many times as you want?

Cheers for info rhino :TU:
well i dont think you personally get the option of trying out for sas selection...im pretty sure the corporal of the regiment you are currently in (ie, para's, marines etc) puts your name forward for selection.

i guess if u try out and get RTU'd (returned to unit) then your corporal is not going to put your name up for selection again unless you show marked improvement or some distinguishing reason why you should get another crack.

apparently only 50% of it is physical anyway...the other 50% is just pure "tough SOB" mentality...it also helps if u just dont give a fcuk about a damn thing...they just want unemotional people who know how to get the fcuk in, take care of shit, and get the fcuk out...

during the iranian embassy seige of 1980 in london...one sas trooper was abseiling down the roof to launch a surprise offensive from the balcony...anyway, about 10 metres from the balcony the rope split and he fell and landed on his back, everyone thought he was dead for sure...but no, not this sunnabich...he rose to his feet broke thru the balcony window and shot all the kidnappers......thats the kind of shit they wanna see...just badass nastiness

the special forces are the cream of the crop from the whole of the armed forces. the marines etc usuall specialise in the SBS, the army and RAF regiment etc usually have options on the SAS. both of these special forces are of equivalence and work together and respect each other.

included in the SAS recruitment area are the paras etc, the para training is like the scouts compared to the SAS, the SAS training includes the most hideous physical and mental toughness you can possibly think of, i would say its 30% physical and 70% mental, someone who can run fast for 5 miles is not as much use as someone who can jog for 40 miles, in the desert, with no food and a bloody huge pack on your back with hideously blistered feet etc...

the para training is predominantly physical. before you start SAS training you are invited to a pre selection warm up, this weeds out the chaff as it is mainly physical, hideously physical !!

not everyone in the forces can apply for 'selection'. you have to be very very highly recommended with the attitude and aptitude to carry on with any task, physical or mental or both, when others will give up. big muscley guys fail, they lack the stamina. there is a very low pass rate for the pre-selection and an even lower pass rate for the actual selection.

could any of you guys imagine being in the jungles of borneo, with another bloke as a buddy, unable to move from an area of ground the size of a mattress, 2 hours on and 2 hours off, taking turns, vigilant and looking into the sights of your weapon during your 2 hours on watch, waiting for an enemy that may come and may not, eating, sleeping and shitting in the same place, unable to move around..............for a bloody month or longer !! this is the kind of things it involves.......all mental !!!

i was attached to special forces for 2 years in the late 80's, as part of their resus team, they are normal guys, similar builds to i am now, with long hair and a steely stare !!

Don't you also have to be a specialist in a particular area, such as communications, signalling, explosives etc?

My Cousin had a mate called Archie, who had a thick cockney accent, and looked like one of the Sugar Hill Gang.

However, he spoke 9 languages and was also an explosives expert.

He was also fornicating mental.

Khan said that he got down to 1.5% for the gomez fight which is easily possible with the amount of cardio he does. Bodybuilders must maintain muscle mass as so if they do alot of cardio to get to very low body fat levels then they lose muscle mass which they dont want. You cannot say he looks like 4%. He is what he says he is otherwise you would get people like Barry Mcguigan sayin otherwise. Whats with all the negativity surrounding this khan lad

That is total and utter rubbish.

Anything below 4% and your losing visceral fat which is vital to protect the organs.

:TU:

Not to mention the fact that fat is a major part of the endocrine system and is needed for cellular function and energy production. At 1.5% bodyfat I'd imagine a fellow could perform in an athletic contest for around 90-120 seconds max. At that point they would be too exhausted to continue. Andreas Munzer is the only human being I know of who got close to 1.5% bodyfat...he died about a week later.

Most muscular men begin to show visible abs around 10-12% depending on a variety of factors. Just a quick look at Khan/Gomez and I'd guess he would fall somewhere between 8-10%.

And LOL at any human being "easily" getting to 1.5% bodyfat

For reference this is what 4% bodyfat looks like and I guarantee you he doesn't have the energy to box more than a round or two:

Edit: Oh my...Just noticed this thread is from 2008

It's usually around under the 10% body fat, Kahn was once waffling shite about being 1-2% body fat which is bollocks
