there is just no consistency in these officials. khan was gone, it was plain to see, so why let him get separated from his senses, just to save yourself from abuse from the promoter...
disgusting !!!!!!!! :x
I agree completely about the refereeing for the Khan fight, but don't use the Fewkes fight as an argument as the towel came in to stop that fight.

Are you serious??
Did you not see the massive right hands that Prescott threw (which just failed to land) as Khan was falling on the 1st and 2nd knockdown?
Khan was lucky not to have been sparked unconscious, especially after he got up after the first Knockdown.
I'll say it again - has a fighter ever been seriously injured in the first round of a fight?
If not, why do you reckon that is?
So just to confirm, youre saying that Amir Khan was not in danger of suffering serious injury against Prescott (a massively accurate and destructive puncher) because the fight was only in the first round??
And youre basing this conclusion, not on the facts of what was actually taking place in the ring (e.g Prescott was teeing off on a badly disorientated Khan - whose legs had gone and who was unable to properly defend himself) but instead on the fact that you are not aware that a boxer has suffered serious injury in the first round of a fight??
Youre having a laugh, arent ya?

Liam I'll leave it like this - boxers do not get seriousy injured when losing in the the first round. Check back 100 years, it never happens. Why is that?
1/ they are not exhausted
2/ they haven't taken a sustained beating
3/ they're usualy chinny.
It's the ones who have great chins that end up injured, and always later in the fight.
Boxers who have chins made of the finest china, take a few whacks and it's goodnight sweet prince. Then wake up non the wiser

IMO it should have been stopped. I'm glad it didn't though, like someone said. The bull shit that would have came out of Khans and Warrens mouth would have been infuriating.

It provided complete closure to the event. Without that the post-fight would have been an absolute farce and we'd be listening to all kinds of ongoing bullshit right now.
It was a brutal finish but we've seen dozens of ref stoppages worse than that.
I agree completely.
I also agree the referee did ok. If the 2nd knockdown didn't happen, Khans people would have complained.
No matter how bad Khan does, theres always some excuse. To Khans fans- He lost fair and square. Face it.
An utter irrelevance, the referee is there to adjudicate in the best interests of fairness, and above all, the fighters' health. He is not there to pander to the grievances of the fighter, his family, the promoter, the tv network or the fans.
O'Connor allowed a man who couldn't even stand up without reeling around the ring continue to participate in a sport where punches to the head are the norm.
Yes, Khan's family cannot complain at all, but O Connor should never have allowed Khan to continue, especially given his prediliction for early stoppages in other high profile fights.
