Hennessy is a wyly old fox and one of the best negoitiators around - and okay I do not believe one minute Calzaghe would accept the offer but if he did - £5m is a rather small sum in comparison to what this fight would generate with TV deals, sponsorship, and ticket revenue.
With all that said although I think Carl Froch is a world class fighter and I have stated that since day 1 - I think Hennessy sending out a Press Release concerning Calzaghe is a blunder - Pascal is no mug who Froch is fightig next - whilst I think Froch will win the fight and win well, I simply think its a massive PR blunder of Hennessy Sports to be sending out this sort of in my view b*llocks when Froch has got to win his toughest fight to date with Pascal.
Froch will in my view prove his worth as a viable world class operator - I am convinced of that - but the arrogance at world level can easily bite you in the arse - and I have to say if Froch were to lose against Pascal - I am wondering whether Hennessy's deal with ITV will be as lucrative - and its that very point Hennessy should concentrate on - think about this fight - not sending out press releases about the next!!!
Has anything been released from MH though, I ain't seen owt.
I can't wait for this Pascal fight, it's gonna be a cracker and JP's gonna be going home up with a right sore nose
Calzaghe-Froch is very much a pipedream, but I'd love to see it.

More like Margarito-Cotto
Margarito Is limited like Froch but at least he knows to keep his hands up and doesn't get wobbled by counter right hands.
If Pascal's chin holds, then his handspeed could help him outbox Froch who has stayed on domestic level for too long. Froch's got to stop thinking he's Roy Jones with that style.
No way could Hennessey raise the 5 million.
In what way?
It'd be more like Lacy as Froch will plod his way forward making It an easy win for Joe. Joe loves come forward fighters.

Froch should of fought Bute for the IBF eliminator Instead of beating up his leftover who fought Bute less than 2 months earlier.

Would you prefer the press release to discuss Pascal's most impressive victories? Perhaps you would, because like me you probably cannot summon a single name - i.e. Pascal is not an easy to sell to newspapers, news outlets and the like. Calzaghe is.
Maybe A.N Other, the football fan who knows Joe, Hatton and Hamed, would be really interested in hearing about Inkin or Steigliiz or Haussler, or maybe Sakio Bika or Luciano Bute? I don't think the pursuit of British, Commonwealth, European and WBC honours makes the fella laughable. Warren is better at making a buck out of a pig, but Hennessy has maintained some dignity in the path he's taken. We laugh and mock the fact Froch would have held the WBO title three years ago had Warren had him or similar but lest we forget he had Witter as a natural opponent to Hatton inside his won stable but couldn't make the fight.
I think Hennessy's ethics are sound, they've cost him in the short-term but could pay-off yet in the long-run. His fighters have shown more loyalty than some of Warren's for all the millions he claims or has proven to make for them.

I think you've hit the nail on the head of the err...flying pig there Mr. Payne.
The cynic in me says Hennessy is using Calzaghe's name to hype up the Pascal fight. Also, Froch would be a mug to be skimping on training with a dangerous operator in front of him. Given Froch's lethargic style and Pascal's speed, this fight is by no means a forgone conclusion IMO.

Hennessy laughable? Were Thaxton's wins over Meager and Melero laughable, grabbing him British and Euro titles? Witter winning the WBC belt a joke? Froch certainly is getting on, but he could be WBC super middle champ by the end of the year - and let's remember, no one gave a fornicate about Joe Calzaghe until title defense number 15 or 16, for what it's worth.
I find Khan being pulled out of purse bids to be more laughable or Khan being annihilated on PPV in only the 1st round.
Hennessy does get some stick for being slow, for not keeping his fighters active, and for giving fighters from rival promoters publicity. Can he deliver a world title shot to anyone under 30, for instance? But he has found a niche in the market simply by delivery competitive fights and not insulting the intelligence of the viewers, which I think a lot of promoters do in this country.
He's got a nice stable of solid talent (as well as some wonky, unpredictable fighters), has made some inroads with ITV and Showtime (ShoBox), puts on some tasty fights & doesn't take the piss with the bogus titles (anything with a W or an I at the front, so the poor sap who buys a ticket things they're seeing some kind of major international event). Ridiculous, eh?
But certainly, a Calzaghe fight is not realistic in the slightest. Maybe it's a bit of the old rhetoric, so that Froch can say "Joe Calzaghe won't fight me" - we get that in boxing sometimes, don't we?

Witter called out Hatton, now MH calls out Calzaghe for Carl Froch, although Froch has called out Calzage himself in the past. They seem to think calling out these big name fighters will make the general public believe they are in the same league. Froch is good but not good enough for the likes of Kessler, Bute, Pavlik or Hopkins never mind Joe Calzaghe. Calzaghe would enjoy hitting him and would win by a pile of points. This fight will never happen, Joe wants out of it and no way could MH raise the money. Its just a publicity stunt getting Frochs name linked with Joe, with maybe a claim that Joe is ducking Froch. The casual sports fan will probably buy it not realising the reasoning behind using Joes name. Calzaghe is in the premiership while Froch will likely fail in the first division if he sticks to that low arm style of his. RJJ and Naz were successful using that style because they had speed. Froch and Witter have always believed they can win by KO, confusing their opponents with heavy shots at different angles. This works if you are good enough, until you reach World level, then a fast skilled puncher will beat you, as happened with Witter against Bradley. I really do hope Froch beats Pascal to win the title and to keep the ITV bosses happy as well. Pascal is quick and is comming to win, lets hope Carl doesnt underestimate him. Pascal is no Kessler, who I believe will clean up the division, but he is good enough to give Froch some problems. Joe will beat RJJ, then retire and wait to be called to the Palace at age 50 thereabouts, to pick up a Knighthood. Hatton could do the same as long as he doesnt get floored and KOd by Malignaggi. He can be excused for losing to PBF but not Paulie who is just good but no more.

I'm one of those who has got fed up reading about Hennessy fighters calling out big names in fights you know won't happen. However, look a bit closer. Froch was Calzaghe's WBC top contender. Thaxton and Khan were each other's no 1 contenders. Hennessy obviously wanted to win purse bids, get home adv for his fighter and raise his fighter by beating the bigger name - the balance of power shifts a bit. There is nothing wrong with this. Obviously, Calzaghe wouldn't defend vs his top contender, as he's never had a top contender (barring Veit and Martine McKutcheon) & made his oldies tour cash ins. And Khan was pulled out of purse bids...I'm convinced many of the problems in boxing, in Europe, are down to the cautious, bigger promoters that avoid the risk fights. They make money, but they drag out no risk reigns & get reviled. Then their lackeys come on here & get upset cos, telling ppl they "know nothing about the bidness", when they're contributing to this climate in the first place where the best fights get fought in the press releases.

Yeah, and the thing is, watch shows by Warren, Universum, Sauerland, and you know exactly what the business is about. The process is so transparent. Title suddenly becomes vacant, house fighter becomes undeservedly or suddenly ranked, surprise WBO title shot, world title fights that are dressed up domestic/EBU level fights, drag the whole thing out against dim opposition, house fighter gets pulled out if he has to a) fight a tough opponent or b) defend away from home, after years MAYBE wins "career defining fight" and "proves the doubters all wrong". Go for titles, not good fights. Build records, rather than building fighters (see Khan charade). Make everything a big tease - the customers paying just to see the big name, rather than seeing him do any real competing - and avoid the big questions as long as you can.
So we need the Hennessys and Hayemakers to go after the Warren fighters (though it seems you have to blow them away on the Warren show ala Haye-Macca), the Ahmet Oehners to go after the Universum and Sauerland boys - otherwise things would just be exceptionally boring, safe and comfortable all the time.

Extremely valid points - but its just Carl Froch has to beat Pascal - yes put these type of press releases out of course that should happen - but do it when the fighter as well as the promotional company are in a position of strength - what does the press release mean if Froch gets sparked??

Spot on, and you're right to question Universum as well. In recent times they have put on some of the most cynical, dire, one-sided matchups I have ever witnessed. Hiding behind the WBO belts, fighting against a conveyor belt of blandness it has been a criminal ride for the likes of Erdei and Dzinziruk etc.

Won't happen but....the money would be payable after the fight, HBO and Sky PPV would surely put up a decent percentage of it, 50,000 football crowd would do the rest.
Its not like Henessey just has £5million in his back pocket, hes probably done the calculations seen where the revenues will come from and offered accordingly.

good for froch cos least he'll have a title to go back to after calzaghe has licked his boots.
