So say i, and all that sail in me
A fair few able semen if reports are to be believed.

They are sweetheart, they are...

Anyway, i thought Clazaghe looked clueless against Hopkins, he couldnt even remember how to punch properly

Jones by Decision. In his prime he would have most definitely defeated Calzaghe. Now? I still believe he can pull it off though admittedly I'm biased as a big RJJ fan.

Where is the "Joe doesn't make weight" option?

I think it'll be a better performance by Calzaghe this time having sampled light heavyweight and won in America. Maybe I'm just trying to give myself every reason to actually stay up and watch the fight. Jones could be another horrid style - what's an old fighter going to do if he can't win - spoil?

There are much better fights at the weight - Glen Johnson, Dawson - but unfortunately none of them are well known.

If he has another amateurish effort, the Yanks will come to believe that Joe doesn't really know how to box which would be a shame.

Don't think Jones is going to be able to last the pace, though he may have some success in spurts.

can't believe anyone is giving rjj a chance in this one

I would love nothing more than Calzaghe to stop Jones, but i just don't think thats whats going to 'appen.

This really is an excellent fight, if you can put aside the boxrec forum faux-snobbery for 5 effing minutes

It's a very interesting fight- I'll call it a good one if it does indeed turn out to be so.
Contrary to popular opinion I do not believe that Jones is truly 'shot'. When you consider the multitude of ex-journeymen and even champs who can barely slur their way through a sentence, who's hands shake uncontrollably when not otherwise unengaged, Roy Jones is in comparison, a picture of health. His consecutive KO losses to Tarver and Johnson have quite naturally placed some fairly substantial questionmarks over his condition but amid the torrent of "I-told-you-so's", media speculation and assumptions the answer(s) to those questions have never really become manifest. Accordingly, I'm not going to try and end the whole debate on the spot with my convoluted theory on why this happened but I will submit that whatever the problem may have been, it's as close to subsiding as it ever will be. Also, I honestly think that his recent string a reletively unremarkable victories is a consequence of both father time and a natural reluctance to do anything more than neccecary to get the W.

The bottom line is this. Roy Jones is a boxing prodigy, a once-in-a-generation anomally and if enough of those sublime skills are left in the well (particularly that breathtaking left hook) for one last great performance, Joe Calzaghe, as gifted as he is, could find himself being the recipient of a memorable defeat.

Personally, I don't think so. My forecast panders to the conventional wisdom that Joe's activity will be too much but that remains to be seen and I think that RJJ is a far more courageous selection of oppnent than people seem to be giving Calzaghe credit for.

Can anyone give an example of a boxer who regained their best form (or close to it) after some faded performances? Not counting the likes of DLH, Pacquiao, Glen Johnson or Hopkins, who gradually overcame their shaky early years.

This match feels like Tyson-Lewis again. I'm keeping to my guess of Calzaghe by UD.

It doesn't happen very often but off-the-cuff, Marco Antonio Barrera and James Toney.

Calzaghe looks like he's working on punching harder this time. It'll be interesting to see if that translates in the fight.

It's obviously a very interesting fight.

A RJJ who it seems is way over the the hill rediscovering a bit of form. A less than great showing from JC against an old Bhop (that looks better after his last performance) given that any modern fighter would find it hard to look good against him.

Rumours out there, true or not, that JC had to shed 6lbs hours before weigh-in. Fvck sakes I haven't a clue how this one will turn out but I'm sure there will be a bit of drama.

If I had to guess I'd say RJJ within 6 rounds or a Calzaghe points victory. These type of fights are very hard to predict.

I just think Jones has one more big fight in him - if that is the case - calzaghe could be having a nightmare as I think he will be expecting to fight a "shot" Jones - if RJJ is on form then he could possibly box Calzaghe ears off - and if that is the case and Calzaghe gets frustrated and makes mistakes rushing in then there is no one better to punish mistakes like RJJ.

RJJ on points ... but there is a sneaky suspicion for RJJ and it could be early.

Yes, good Example.

This is a version of Tyson-Lewis if i ever saw one

That's not really what this is about though is it. Jones beat top fighters who were well past it (McCallum, Hill).

It's about what each guy has left on this night.

Apologies to the Roy Jones loonies out there, but Joe could have given RJ a hell of a fight even in his prime.
Roy wouldn't have knocked out Joe at his peak, the Welshman took as good a shot in his prime as anyone - Toney & Hopkins included. So that workrate would have given Roy fits, always.

The only trouble for Joe here, is his ability to take a great shot must be nearing it's limit right now....but Jones seems to have passed that point already: he doesn't hold a great shot any more.

Right now to me, Roy looks a shadow of what he was - he can still put it together to dominate a even more shot Trinidad, but I think a prime Roy would have taken out THAT version of Trinidad inside 3 rounds. And yet lots of people fancy he'll blast out Joe in style.

So lets hope that when Calzaghe beats him tonight, we don't get all those same fans saying Joe just beat a very old Jones etc..so what.

Jones is a wily old character and liable to catch Joe early on, but I don't have much faith in Jones' stamina or general engine. Saying that, I don't expect Joe to knock him out either.

Joe UD.

Joe should win this very easily, and now that Hopkins has taken care of Pavlik I believe that Calzaghe will stay retired after this. Jones is past it and nobody should be fooled by his past three wins which came against two bums and a blown up, inactive Trinidad. It's not such a fascinating fight and I wish I was in bed rather than sitting here waiting for it to begin. Being in New York I assumed an early start but this looks like it'll be a 4am job.

Count yourself lucky. I've been awake here in Moscow most of the night after a snooze between 9 and midnight. I have to go to this sportsbar/casino place in the centre of the city, so I'm going to go out into a dark, sub-zero November morning and grab a random Lada to take me there and watch it.

But you know what? I can't wait. Thrilled to watch this fight, and only idiots who believe every fight should be Sugar Ray Leonard against Roberto Duran or better would think otherwise.

Anyway, going to grab a shower and get going.

Yeah, the problem with these late starts is that we can't help but build our hopes as we wait. Then it's usually an anti-climax. (Story of my life etc.)

Tony: Barrera's a good example of a guy who came back to top form. Not sure about Toney, though; I think he's been on a decline since he topped 170 lbs. His best performances after that have come against boxers also removed from their prime.

Edit: Paul Dempsey just gave a fine example of the above: Ray Leonard. But then Ray was 31 when he fought Hagler.

No you don't. You could just as easily watch it on a stream to your PC.

This fight is a joke. End of round four. Apart from the knockdown Jones has looked like a slow old man. This is already reminding me of the Glen Johnson fight - Calzaghe will win easily.

Calzaghe looked good physically this time.

But what is wrong with this man?

Giving away free shots, walking around like a monkey, showing off when his opponent has one eye. I don't think he's making people like him.

If he's going to show off, do it against someone better. I hope he fights again, in a dangerous title defence.
