Rising cruiserweight star Jamie Withers scored the most significant win of his professional career and improved his record to 11-0 by winning all six rounds on each of the judges' scorecards against former WBO world title contender Mohamed Azzaoui.

looked a bit quicker with his hands and a little more urgency. i am comparing him after seeing both he and danny fight on green/mundine undercard though hound dog. they both seemed a little one dimensional and one speed. they showed jamie's ko of james ellis that i hadnt seen before and thats how he started but then slowed right down but still controlled azzoui.

Choc full of history
You may well have seen a brief but severe storm midweek after Anthony Mundine scheduled a press conference to begin at 11am on November 11 - as in the most sacred hour of Remembrance Day on this 90th anniversary of the formal end of World War I. The boxer acknowledged in that press conference he knew nothing about any of that.
Some of the milder commentary accused him of gross insensitivity and breathtaking ignorance. The stronger commentary was completely feral. The truth of it? This country is a rich mosaic of different ethnicities and cultures. Each of those cultures and ethnicities places different emphases on different days of respect and things to honour and remember. Yes, it is regrettable that Mundine didn't know more about the events of 90 years ago.
Far more regrettable, however, is how little the rest of most of us white fellas know about Aboriginal culture and history: from the Dreamtime through to the agonies of colonisation, to the Myall Creek and Coniston massacres, to how when proud Aboriginal soldiers returned from WWII they were not allowed into RSL Clubs, to the Stolen Generations all the way to Mabo, and Reconciliation.
Mundine knows all of these things backwards. Why don't all of the rest of us?
never a truer word spoken.

jaafar, i take it you are koori?? mate, you are like mundine in the way that you accuse us white australians of being racist and not appreciating your/our culture. i grew up with koories and my nieces and nephews are koorie and i have found unless you are related or the very best of mates that you are treated like an outsider and i find it very hard to embrace or even learn about your culture. there are some great initiatives with co-ops down here but i have even offered to train some kids for nothing and i have heard diddly squat. make up your minds whether we are one or not!!!!

I'm not koori, but what does it matter???? do you dislike koories or something???
John Howard failed to say sorry to the Aboriginal population because "was not responsible"
Mundine organised a press conference on the day before his fight, as he has done his whole career, and at 11am, a time he has often used to organise a press conference.....what's the big deal?
is there a broadcasted minute pause that the whole nation must obey for the Myall Creek massacre?? more importantly, were you aware of the Coniston massacre and when the Aboriginal population mourn and remember the losses???? And since Straya is a multicultural nation, and a member nation of the UN, are you aware of all the rememberance days in the Islamic and Judaism religions?????????
hope dies last.....

had it not been for nova 96.9 this morning on the way to work, I wouldn't have known also.
Did you go to school in Australia Jaafar, If you did you would know what it is. Or are you to stupid to remember. Maybe to much drugs affected your brain.
His team dilberatly called the press confrence at 11 to piss people off and cause contreversy.
Its not so much he didnt know which is bullshit he isnt that stupid, but to say he is against war anyway is pathetic, Most Aussies are against war but in WW2 18 year olds were forced to go to war to defend there country. They fought for the right to have our country the way it is.
Its the reason people from all over come here to call Australia home.
Maybe you should actually embrace being Australian instead of being negative towards everything Australian.
Armistice Day was about the end of World War I, not World War II, and no Australians were conscripted for World War I. In World War II conscripts could not fight outside Australia. New Guinea was an Australian Trust Territory under a League of Nations mandate, so Australian conscripts fought there to defend Australian territory. A lot of Aboriginals fought in World War II.
Regardless of that, calling a press conference at 11 am on Armistice Day was poor form.

i have been a mundine fan from way back, he is one of my favourite boxers, i love the way he boxes, he has alot of skill, speed, class in the ring. As a mundine fan i am waiting for him to step up and fight a top ten fighter at mw or smw. im sure he has a plan or reasons for the opponents he fights but i hope these fights are leading to a legit world title shot. If they dont as a fan i will feel let down. Mundine is to classy for the opponets he fights. If he dont step up soon his legacy will not be as great as i potentially could be. I still think mundine is the man but im starting to get a little tired watching mundine fight opponents from a lower level
