True Alp.
Angelo Dundee used to say," it aint the guy in the corner, its the guy on the stool."

Yes, but if you are in the most important fight of our life, do you want somebody like the guy with the water balloon who was in Tyson's corner when he lost to Douglas (I don't remember his name), or do you want a Charlie Goldman or Eddie Futch?

I always felt I could have worked real well with Pat and Goody Petronelli.
They were the worst, and are the ones mostly to blame for Hagler getting his ass handed to him by Leonard. Second raters.....

Bullshit.
They took a 16 year old through an AAU championship onto a pro championship career where they all made millions.
Besides, as I already stated, the question is who would you the fighter have worked well with.
Who trained you in the amateurs? Did you work well with that person?
You said you trained at the CYO in Chicago right? I might know whoever it is .I trained a couple years there.
Or do I have it wrong? We are most likely about the same age.Do you recall who was running the gym when you were there?
Whats your name, maybe our paths have crossed.

Its more complicated than just picking out a big name guy.
You have to find a guy to train you who you feel comfortable with. A guy who you feel can teach you to fight and is looking out for your best interest and of course, safety. Its gotta be a good fit personality wise.
Some fighters need coddling, some need to be screamed at,some need psychology, some need constant encouragement, etc etc.
I always felt I could have worked real well with Pat and Goody Petronelli.
They were loyal to a fighter, didnt fu.. with jerk off promoters , at least to my knowledge, were real good teachers, and ran a very calm corner.
Some people say they should have started screaming at Hagler to get going in the Leonard fight.
Marvin wasnt a fighter who responded to that I dont think.
It was always cool and calm in their corners.I dont like the yelling and screaming and drama in a corner.
Again, you have to find out what works best for you, the fighter. I think I could have worked with them real well.
But again, thats me. They might not have been a good fit for everyone.
I agree, I think they'd work for me too :TU:

You can say bullshit all you want.....but the fight, their BS stategy, and the results are tough to argue with. The Petronelli brothers stunk as trainers/managers.

They lucked out when they stumbled into Hagler. :TU: If they actually were any good, other decent named fighters would still be after or using them.

The question was which of the 4 trainers would you want if you were fighting.........no where are the Petronelli brothers mentioned. :-?
