Froch did seem nervous in ITV4's feature on him last week, but that's to be expected, it's really dawned on him how big a fight this is. ITV4 portrayed his preparation over in Ireland as quite a lonely existence and Froch must be hardening himself up for the toughest fight of his life.

I know what you mean chambers, 4 days to go until the sparks start flying, and even I'm getting butterflys thinking about it. :box:

My big concern is not his defence, that some say will be his undoing, but that Carl might freeze. He's not suffered from it before as a pro, but this is a massive occasion, I hope he proves he has the mentality for the big ones.

Predicition : Froch by knockout

I think this is a legitimate match-up for the title. Granted neither have really been tested against quality opposition but they both look like dangerous fighters and either could prove to be the next dominant force at 168. If either man dominants the other they automatically become one of the main players at 168 along with Kessler, Bute & Taylor. I think it could well turn into an exciting fight. I'll be hoping Froch can pull out a good peformance and stop Pascal but with both guys looking good in previous fights against mediocre opposition it's a tough call and I really don't have a clue who's going to win. It wouldn't surprise me if one of these two rose to the occassion and looked a different class to the other.... I just don't know which one.

Yeah, 6 and a half years of Froch-stalking is about to come to fruition with Saturdays World title shot and I can't fcuking wait!! :D :D I feel like I did before Haye went over to Paris on his Mormeck mission.

I watched the ITV4 feature on him over the weekend as well (on the Bernard Dunne show) and he mentioned that he was abit nervous (to be honest I'd be more worried if he wasn't nervous), but I've not got any worries on Froch's state of mind going into this BIG one (although this may be to my Froch addiction), because as you say he's not had any worries in that department before. His training camp 'looks' to have gone to plan and as he said 'no stone has been left unturned'.

It's crunch time for Froch and I'm very confident that Froch will stop him coming down the straight.

Prediction: Froch  by KO rounds 7-11

Really looking forward to this one (though will have to watch it after the event cos I have a thing on Saturday) Froch is massively under rated over hear because people have been nay saying for so long they don't appreciate his skill. Although this could all be rather embarrassing if I'm wrong.

There have been plenty suspect fights for titles, so I think one in which there are serious mandatories is as good a situation as we can have.

he's supposedly never been stopped as Amateur or Pro. I keep reading that he was wobbled in his last fight, but I haven't seen it (I've seen plenty of people describe someone as being 'wobbled', when they were just caught off balance)

I can't wait for this fight.
Think his recent interviews and tv appearances have seen him to be more down to earth and 'real' rather than his earlier stuff.
I've certainly warmed to him and will be rooting for him come fight time.
Think the itv stuff following his prep has been a great insight and will have won him new fans.

I think he'll rise to the occasion and win by ko.

Pascal impressed everyone in Manchester in 02 but hasn't created a great deal of buzz as a pro......they were angling for a Miranda fight a little while back, they appeared on the same card.....Miranda knocked his opponent through the ropes if i remember correctly....Pascal looked far from convincing, and got stunned on the way to his victory, thus talk of that match up quickly evaporated

I believe Froch struggles with Pascal's speed, but the ability to take each other's punches will be the telling factor (Froch has thye superior power, and - as crucially - chin....Froch will either knock Pascal out, or change Pascal's objective to survival somewhere around the half way stage on way to a UD much like we saw with Hatton-Mallignaggi

Think it's the Pittman fight they're refering to, brief highlights here, you can see the shot that "wobbled" him about 20 secs in. He says his legs were tangled, and it's hard to tell either way

Just read this good post on the Current Scene regarding Pascal, it's interesting to read that Pascal has been targetting a puncher for a while, so Team Pascal don't seem to worried about his whiskers, but he hasn't had his Chin-Checked by the Frochster yet 8)
Bakunin wrote:Im a Jean Pascal fan, i won't hide it  so i have to support him all the way, Pascal by late TKO or UD, its not a common prediction but i will explain why here and keep in mind that yes im a bit biased .

Ive watched a few Froch fight, im not that much impressed by his boxing skill overall but he looks very smart in the ring, sneaky and he seems to hit like a truck. Of course im very worried about froch power and i hope Pascal strategy will be to contain that power and make it a technical fight.

About Jean Pascal, this is his moment to shine, the guy has tons of talent, he could become a superstar but the truth is he has never been serious about his career and dedicated to become the best he can be, ive never seen him have a strategic plan in the ring to counter his opponent, he has always pretty much been free style boxing and toying with his opponnent. sometime he likes to showboat, i think this is why he never really develloped in a killing machine because he has the tool to become one if he would work for it and would learn to be serious and organized in his attack. What make this fight so hard to predict is the fact that he was injured in his last two fight, he fought with his jab only the last 2 fights and won comfortable UD. Some people say he got rocked twice, let me set this once and for all, first he did not get rocked against Norman, he got trapped in the corner and got slapped a few times, he did not go down or lost his balance or looked hurt or w/e... Against Pittman, he said he got hit by a thumb in the eye and had trouble with his vision, that time he was out of balance and looked hurt/confused, he did not go down but clinched the rest of the round. Feel free to believe him or not on that one. It doesnt really matter what i believe or what he said about it, the fact are most people watching believe he got rocked so this is legitimate. This is where the concern about his chn come from i believe. There is one thing to consider tho, Jean Pascal has been targetting heavy hitter for a while now with Miranda, Zuniga and he had the choice to fight Balzsay(for the WBO) and he choosed Froch for the WBC. They look very confident in Jean Pascal chin, us, spectator aren't and are worried about it being his main weakness. It would not be the first time we see a fighter overconfident about his chin...

I choosed Pascal by TKO because if his right hand is healthy, he's alot better than with a jab only, its his secret weapon, he hits harder than people believe with it and i believe that froch will have a hard time winning round if he can't stun Pascal and he will have to come close and force a fight, he will get tired, slower, desperate and he will walk into that right hand. i believe it will end in a TKO or KO whoever wins because both are hungry, cocky, proud and undefeated. Jean Pascal worked is ass off for this fight, they say they have a plan, and he said he couldn't eat cake for his birthday and said Froch will pay for it .

Seriously, yes, yet again im very worried about Froch Power being a problem, im a bit worried about him being sneaky and smart in the ring, other than that im confident in Pascal, i have to support him, he his rightfully the underdog but he his definatly the better boxer out there and a victory is plausible, its a close matchup and there are many question mark to be answered that night... he just have to make it a technical fight, be carefull, smarter and he win, he have to make it his fight, not froch fight.

Thanks Chambers, that's a interesting post by Bakunin, spot on by the sounds of it. The Canadian looks to have the tools to give Froch major problems, looks a 50/50 fight in all honesty. Pascal would be fav in Canada you'd think...

Carl better assume his chin is good, and rack up points with the jab, then rough him up in the middle rounds and make him realise he's a looooonng way from home.

I think, from the highlights of the Pittman fight, you can see that Pascal has a decent chin. He looks solid.

Froch can be outboxed, has been before now, and by people with less pedigree than Pascal.

However, he has always pulled out a big arrray of shots to end up winning those fights - I think he'll need to do the same on Saturday.

Carl Froch and Jean Pascal come face to face

03.12.08

Jean Pascal was in confident mood despite being on Cobra territory ahead of his WBC super middleweight show down with the outspoken Nottingham fighter.

Pascal wore a t-shirt depicting a Mongoose attacking a Cobra, he took the mic and declared how he was going to realise his dreams of becoming the WBC Super middleweight champion of the World this Saturday night.

Pascal went on to talk describe his T-shirt "The Cobra is very fearsome, but the mongoose is too fast for the Cobra.

They call Carl the Cobra...well Saturday night, Jean Pascal will be the mongoose" Taunted the unbeaten Pascal.

Froch, sitting back in his chair and oozing his trademark confidence quickly chipped in "My mother ran a lot of pubs throughout Nottingham."

"One of the regulars used to come in and taunt me, saying that he was a mongoose and would always beat the Cobra. I used to whip him at pool and darts."

"Pascal may say he is a mongoose. But he is getting knocked out on Saturday night and he can take his t-shirt home with him. Infact I'll sign it for him" Said Froch.

Froch declared that he was only 1 pound over the 168lb weight limit. Pascal was more coy about his weight and declared that he would 'make the weight' on Friday, suggesting that he may currently be slightly struggling to get to the limit.

Robert McCracken declared that he rated Jean Pascal very highly, but that his chance had come soon for the Candian.

"I've watched Pascal in the gym. He was a very talented amateur and he is going to come into that ring unbeaten and in his mind he is super confident.

But this is Carl Froch's moment and after Pascal has been defeated, he can come again. His chance has come too soon" Said McCracken.

Marc Ramsey, Pascal's trainer said that they had prepared extremely well and that they had not taken any aspect of training lightly. They rated Carl Froch as one of the most dangerous opponents in the division - but also stated that at World level, all opponents can punch.

When Pascal was asked whether or not the recent losses amongst Canadian boxing had any bearing on his confidence Pascal declared "I'm not Steve Molitor - i have come to win"

"We are not tourists. I love England and have been successful here before and I will be again".

Afterwards Froch commentated on how Jean Pascal had an army of masseurs, dieticians and dog's bodies surrounding him. all wearing Team Pascal tracksuits.

"It don't matter how many of his entourage are here. When that bell rings it's just me and him, minus his ass, which will have fell out in the changing room.

"He's an athlete and I'm a fighter - that's the difference. I'm gonna unleash hell on him".

Another couple of semi-interesting posts from the CS
Bakunin wrote:
crow wrote:Pascal fought 3 fights in the space of 100 days; he injured his right shoulder in the first, and fought one handed practically thereafter.

2 questions:

- if the injury handicapped him to the point of him not being able to use his right, why take 2 ensuing fights in such a small time intervall ?

- He's had now 10 months to heal; will he effectively be able to use his right like before the injury ??

Here is the prediction of the fight: if the right hand works as before, he will decision Froch. If the right hand isn't healed, he gets stopped in the latter rounds.
This is a good question, i will try to answer from what ive heard, the first fight was a normal fight, he injured himself, the second fight a month after they knew he was injured, they wanted to cancel it but Pascal convinced them not to cancel it. They prolly didn't say anything because they needed him to sell ticket that day because there was a big championship fight on the card. The third fight was already scheduled on ESPN on the same card as Miranda and it was supposed to be the fight to build the hype. It doesn't make it smart to fight injured but it explain why they did not let him recover, his schedule was already full.

As for his Right hand, we have no idea, there is a rumour he got injured during the training camp with a torn bicep. As for his power, his sparring partner (Epifanio Mendoza) had to quit after 5 days because he was in too much pain . He said Pascal hits harder than Dawson and Lacy but take it for what its worth.

The worrying thing for me is that I think Pascal will be the one racking up points. I see this fight as fairly similar to the Magee one in that Froch will be looking for a big shot while Pascal is outboxing him. I've watched Pascal a few times over the years and he has wonderful physical tools. Very fast and very accurate. Carl gets hit and drops rounds in pretty much all his fights - against guys a lot less talented than Pascal.

Froch has two great things in his favour - a solid chin and very heavy hands. He may pull off a 'Magee' late on and stop Pascal. I certainly see him having enough power to hurt Pascal. If he lands clean, Pascal will be in a world of trouble. Unfortunately, I think Pascal may have the speed, the reflexes and the straight shots to outbox Froch and stay away from those nasty uppercuts and clubbing left-hooks.

Fascinating fight :box:
