Yeah, I mean that Sanders was only in trouble once his foot movement stopped/slowed. Before then, he wasn't in trouble with Vitali's punches. That's if I'm remembering correctly.

Lewis went in with Vitali with the same mind set he did against Shannon Briggs.. just decided he would walk through the shots and be the last man standing...he nearly bit off more than he could chew but I honestly believe he would have stopped Kilt if it had gone another round........ Klit was knackered when he staggered back to his corner.

Anyway back to the Kilts, they both get hit soooo rarely...... Vitali has only ever been hit by Lennox and Sanders I think... Lennox cut him up pretty bad... possibly Haye can land enough to cause similar problems. Also as James says, Vitalis stamina is suspect and again that is WITHOUT having to actually take any shots... If he ships a few good shots he will tire quicker.

back to the original title of the thread, Haye said the same about the Enzo Mac fight I am sure.... something along the lines of whoever lands first will win.... He knew it would sell tickets.

Comparing Sanders (who was able to land on Vitali) and Haye:
Height: 6' 4" against 6' 3"
Reach: 77" against 78"

Haye is slightly shorter but has a slightly better reach. He'll probably weigh more than 10 lbs less than Sanders, but he will be faster. It's an intriguing bout for sure.

Agreed, but then Haye is not exactly the duracell bunnie is he, and if Vitali ties him on the inside, then how well is Haye going to cope with 250 lbs of Ukranian toughnut leaning on him.

Really, more inclined? Your a bookies dream!
Hardly !
The point is not that I am going to back Haye, but that if I had a choice of backing
A - The Haye that said "Vitali's power is nothing, my chin will stand up to it", or
B - The Haye that said "Vitali will knock me out if he lands flush"
I would be MORE inclined to back Haye B - Haye A would be making an outrageous claim in light of the evidence and liable to attempt a suicidal game plan. Haye B shows an awareness of basic strategy that would give him a greater %age chance of winning than A.

Nowhere did I say what my base inclination to back Haye was, nor that I would actually be backing Haye at all. As it happens my base inclination to back Haye was negative, (I've layed a bit of him @ 9/4) and at the current prices it remains negative.

What I can't understand is why anyone sees the quote in the thread title and thinks that it would make them MORE likely to oppose Haye ?

How many people on here think this is a serious negative against him winning ? I don't -it can only be a (small) positive surely ?

Not me, I think it is entirely realistic from Haye - and he is trying to goad vitali into going for a ko.

Haye, in my honest humble opinion, can beat the majority of the heavyweights out there. He showed he can handle smaller heavyweights like Barrett at will, and probably could decision, knock out, bigger men like Chris Arreola whose not really fought nobody, but as far as the Klitschko's are concerned, I doubt if he can, but with his speed to his advantage he has a chance at doing it.

I think, though, despite his mouth and claims he will beat the Klitschko's and become undisputed champion, he has a level head enough to know what he is facing before him, and is thinking outside the box by bringing in Lewis to help advise and train him. He'll be no doubt sparring nothing but big, strong, capable boxers for this bout.

Haye us rushing into this way too much.

He has talent, but even then, he should take his time. I dont mean 'Calzaghe' time, that is hang around for 10 years, but mabe 1 or 2 more bouts

I don't think Haye will win but don't believe there is anybody in the heavyweightg division who stands a better chance of winning than Haye does. Am willing to be corrected, but let's be honest, who else can mount a serious challenge to Vitali, i.e. who brings more to the table than Haye? Possibly Chagaev, I haven't seen him fight but can't imagine he's good enough to top VK. Valuev, just not good enough IMO but couldn't see him getting KO'd. Povetkin: let's see how he does against Wlad first.

I look forward to seeing Povetkin against Wlad, interesting to see how he stacks up.

I think Vitali will stop David, I think he would beat Wlad though. I cant see this being at Wembley stadium for too big. Has he got the support?

On the contrary imagine Lewis hitting Herbie on the chin, it would be manslaughter.
Nah he didn't, Herbie came out and probably won the first round with his speed, Vitali maybe landed a jab.

Then the first punch that put Hide down was the first right hand Vitali landed and the one that finished him off was the second. Neither was a particularly clean shot either.

I've never been a big VK fan and I agree that he's not a huge puncher, but when you're fighting a big guy accumulation can be a bitch.

He doesn't need to be a really "big puncher" to hurt Haye at heavyweight, and he likely doesn't need to land flush either. I see this going same way as the Hide fight - Herbie boxed the right fight that night, moving out of range, then jumping in to try a few lottery shots now and again. He was cautious, but rightly so...
Haye and Hide are similar in that they're both fast, skillfull punchers, with china chins.

No matter how you spin it, the fact is that even Barrett put Haye over with a glancing punch (like Vitali/Hide ) such an unlikely looking shot, that hardly anyone noticed it. Apart from Haye.
He's said as much since, that Barrett dropped him. Notice he's not blaming the shot that landed while he was down, which you certainly would if that was the case.

Thats my main concern here. He went down far to easily from that punch. Haye appeared nervous of Barretts guns, so its hard to imagine him being anything else against Vitali. One things for sure, Vitali will be landing on Haye, have we ever seen Vitali in a fight where he could not get his shots off? Haye effectively said that the first flush shot Vitali lands will knock him sparko, that certainly does not fill me with confidence!

I don't think taking prior fights would help Haye much. He's all about speed, power and youth, so it makes a lot of sense to get straight to work. He won't have the longevity of a Calzaghe, nor will he adapt to his age like Graham did.

Talking of Povetkin: the man who once beat Haye - Odlanier Solis, could've gone on to beat the Klitschkos. Shocking waste of talent.

It is a bit of a meaningless quote, pretty much any heavyweight would knock anyone out if they land flush. Hence guard, head movement, using your offense to keep them unable to land flush, etc

I just think the guy's just being honest. I am a massive Haye fan but it's obvious that Haye's a little bit chinny - the Mock knockdown was one of the most worrying as his equilibrium and his senses were gone. Now, we all know that Klitschko hits a lot harder than Mock, and we all know that if a decent punch lands on Haye's whiskers then he's probably going down, as Barrett, Mock, Thompson and Mormeck proved. If Haye can avoid that right, and I think he can because Vitali's win over Peter is a little bit overrated - he just stood there in front of Vitali, had no game plan and showed no speed or heart. David's going to bring more to the table than that if he avoids that big shot for the first few rounds - he's going to have a higher work rate, a higher will to win, and predominantly the most important, he's got the better tools to beat Klitschko and perhaps even stop him. Furthermore, I'm putting my bias for David to one side and I'm going to predict Klitschko getting stopped on his feet after taking a lot of heavy, unanswered shots from David's right-hand lead and his left-hook. Remember, Klit's got a chin but his defence and work-rate will be diminished to the point were Haye could take advantage, and I think he probably will. But I just hope David doesn't get involved in a street-fight as he will then struggle.

thats kind of what i thought, especially Vitali landing on Haye.i half-expected him to continue on with more shocking statements such as:"water is wet!!" and "the sky is blue!!!"

yes,i know the point of this disscussion isnt that really, that its more in regard to the psychology behind making such a statement at this juncture.still thought it was kind of funny, nonetheless.

I think this is David Haye trying to attract more interest in the fight.
The heavyweight division has become so bland of late, Haye likes to promote himself as bringing spice to the division, to try and re ignite some interest.
His charisma and antics to get the either Wlad or Vitali in the ring has raised a few eyebrows outside of boxing purists. People are taking notice but still might need convincing to watch the fight.
So Haye comes out and does something not many boxers at his level would do, admit there's a chance of him not only losing but losing in exciting fashion. Haye is almost saying, "love me or hate me, want me to win or want to see me get dumped on my backside, watch this fight because it'll be exciting."
Lets face it, there's probably a few who'd like to see Haye get KO'd so again, it's generating interest in his fight.
