People may laugh at me but I think Matt would stop David in the later rounds it never happen though!! Matt will fight Rogan next in Belfast I think the fight will sell.

Matt is very tough fighter, he be a natural at prizefighter!! Come on Frank make him v Rogan in Feb in London or Belfast it be a real war seeing Matt stop Rogan in 6 rounds!!

Well done Skelton! The Bedford Bear has picked up a title with good earning potential there. He has had a cracking career considering he turned pro late with no am fights.. Great stuff!!

Chuffed for him. He certainly has made the best of his ability.
Is ikt just me or does anyone else think Skelton is now way above domestic fights such as Williams, Harrison and Rogan?
He should stay on the Euro scene, make a defence of two and he could fins himself back in a World Title Fight. he will never land a shot at a World Belt fighting the likes of those named above will he?

Well done Matt Skelton,about time we had a heavyweight euro champ..... just hopes he stays over here and defend his title,but i think he may enticed to travel abroad for more cash...

There was some controversy in the Branco fight:England´s Matt Skelton (22-2, 19 KOs) stopped Paolo Vidoz (25-6, 14 KO´s and won the vacant European heavyweight title. Skelton was the busier and more effective boxer in the early rounds. In round 5-8 Vidoz gave everything he had and earned to win some rounds. Vidoz landed some good shots, but he was not able to hurt Skelton. In the 9th round Vidoz had given all he had and was exhausted. Vidoz had nothing left. Skelton did not want to punish his exhausted opponent and show´d the referee Robin Dolpierre to stop the bout. After the 9th round Vidoz was finally done and he did not come out for the 10th round.
Fights aren't usually stopped because of a bit of swelling, are they? The most recent fight I can think of is Golota vs Mollo, where Golota's eye was almost closed because around the eyebrow was so swollen. That fight went the distance, despite the swelling starting early on. ...Just read on the Boxrec Wiki about the fight and it says that Golota's eye was completely shut!Super lightweight European titlefight between the defending champion Gianluca Branco (42-2-1, 22 KO´s) and Finnish challenger Juho Tolppola (21-5-1, 9 KOs) ended in a very controversial fashion. Tolppola dominated the early round and must had been ahead on the scorecards, when the fight was stopped in the 9th round due a swelling in the side of Tolppola´s head. Branco was ruled as the winner by technical knockout. The fight was stopped by an ITALIAN doctor and the referee Ian John-Lewis..
"The swelling did not effect my vision or ability to box in any way. The swelling is in the side of my head. I felt that the referee was all the time in the Italian side. I boxed well and would had deserved the victory" Tolppola said after the bout.
Tolppola, 25, who was a huge underdog coming into the fight, started the bout very aggressively and dominated the early rounds. The 38-years old champion did well in the 4th round, but was dominated against in the 5th round. In the 6th round Tolppola rocked Branco with a huge right hook to the head. Branco had his best round in the 7th and might have nicked the 8th round as well. Tolppola did well in the 9th before the fight was suddenly stopped. Tolppola´s manager Pekka Mäki said that he will most likely make a protest of the doctors and referees decision to stop the fight.

Going off Lynes' lackluster performance against McCloskey and the closeness of Branco's win of him over in Italy you have to say that Branco's on the verge of losing that title. I remember Tolppola fighting Colin when Branco pulled out of the fight the first time - he looked very limited to me, with very little speed, power or head movement. He was tough, and didn't get stopped, mainly because Lynes can't really punch but he was very ordinary that night. For Tolppola to be ahead on the cards against Branco should tell us all we need to know against Branco. I think Witter beats him handily - it's a natural fight for Junior to take before heading to Yankland to try his luck with Bradley again. It would be a WBC eliminator too because Witter's no#3 and Branco's no#8 in their rankings.

Well done Matt 
In just 22 fights he`se won English,British,comonwealth and european titles plus a WBU title and challenged for the WBA crown, not bad for 40 plus with no amatuer experience.

Yes, well done Matt - I think any arguement about an age cap should be ended when you think of his acheviements.
