Well i'll be watching the new heavyweights with interest, I'm not saying that they will get to championship class, but its always good when we have a batch of heavies developing at the same time.

I like the look of Chisora, still a bit ruff around the edges but I'm sure he will improve this year. It will be interesting to see what Fury does when he is in shape, even though he was in with a stiff on his debut he did look to have hand speed & accuracy, I really think he has a lot of potential.

Yeah it does seem that Chisora is getting a decent run going, he's not been protected like alot of heavies starting out.
which is a bit surprising seeing as he's with Warren, who does like to protect his boxers at the start.
Maybe Warren wasn't convinced and thought he'd see if Chisora would sink or swim when tested. So far he's passed the tests

Jamie Cox and Akash Bhatia will continue to impress.

Scott Quigg has been slowly building up his experience in a low key manner and will continue to impress in 2009. He will be a star.

But another thing why I think he will be one to watch in 2009, is that he's 28-years-old and needs to matched quite tough. I would definitely go down the Haymer or Oakey route next, and if he comes through that, a fight for the British title would be nice.

He needs to push on now though doesnt he? He has had a real slow burn pro career so far. For such an exciting banger that is a shame. He has had out of the ring problems and was upset by Conception but I would hope to see in high profile cross road fights during the next 6 months - unleash the bull!

Agree with this - I thought the only thing he was lacking was a punch then he delivered a great one in his last win. He is a real prospect.

Kell Brook should move up in class this year, as should Kevin Mitchell, this is overdue!

Paul Appleby v Martin Lindsay will produce a featherweight for Britain to get excited about - I would lean towards appleby at this point in time.

OK Dioufy - I have ribbed you in the past about Barker and Jantuah. Time to call it and day and head fo some constructive debate.

I think you are WAY off about McIntosh. He had to be begged by his corner to carry on in that Spartacus fight. After 3 or 4, before Sparty finally imploded completely, he wanted out.

The Anderton win says nothing to me. If he wins a British Title I will be surprised. If he gets further, well.... I see it is as unfathomable!

I personally watched that fight and I didn't see McIntosh have to be "begged" to carry on. Yes, he was tired, and looked like he was going to be beat, but he came back well and the shot that hurt Steve was a good one. I think the fight was stopped too early, but Danny had started to take over, and I had him up by a good few points when he really hurt Spartacus. I'm not saying he's going to be a world-beater but he does have a bit of talent, and plenty of heart. Brendan Ingle even used the words "special talent" in one of the other ITV shows, but I wouldn't go that far. I hope he's kept busy with decent and improving competition.

I would say although in the very early stages keep an eye on dean byrne.
Other ones i will have an eye on sutherland, brook, coyle (very exciting but wild),and the cubans in cork now training over in newcastle. Theyre in action at the end of this month in a small hall card in cork.

Henry Coyle will certainly be one to watch for excitement, but talent wise I'm not convinced he's going to amount to much.
Scott Quigg as someone mentioned earlier in the thread looks a good fighter, his defense is a bit open but everything else has me very very excited, he's a potential star in the making.

Sutherland is one to watch but I don't think he'll make a huge impact this year, this will be more of a building and adapting year for him. 2010 will be Darren's year.

The 3 Cubans are definitely to be watched this year, they are being kept active and their opposition is starting to improve now aswell.
Luis Garcia could be something special.

2009 also will be a big year for Paul McCloskey, because should everything go right this year he'll be European champion and on the verge of a World title fight.

I'm not totally convinced about Kell brook in the long run but I think this will be a big year for him and I can see him distancing himself well above all the other British Welterweights out there this year. He's certainly got talent.....whether he's got the chin I'm not so sure.

Andy Lee should have some decent fights this year too.
