A good replacent would have been Yaphet Kotto.

Fred Ward would have been a decent actor to play Oscar Bonavena(around 1980)

Good call on both men as Johnson. Whatever happened to Kotto? I've only ever known him as the fellow in the first Alien film.

HA! Good call! Yaphet Kotto replaced James Earl Jones as Jack Jefferson (Jack Johnson) in THE GREAT WHITE HOPE on Broadway.

Kaphet Kotto played Lt. Al Giardello in Homicide: Life on the Street during the 1990s. Hasn't done much since. I'm not sure why.
