bit unlucky for these boxers and Hennessey that there is a clash with such a big Sports Network fight- Unless of course Khan's fight is pulled, and people avoid the PPV and tune into ITV, as was the case with many folk in December.

Should be a belter, but agree with the train of thought that it does depend which Elcock shows up. The overly cautious version, or the one who is prepared to get the last word in when the action heats up.

Macklin, we know, will put it on the line. You can't fault him in that department, but he's started the mouthing off again, hasn't learned his lesson from the Moore fight.

Personally I prefer Elcock to win and then hope Darren Barker gets his crack, which is feasible seeing as Hennessy promotes them both.

As for who will actually win, I'm leaning towards Elcock's extra experience at the higher level.

I chatted to Elcock a bit before his fight with Scott Dann, and he comes across as a sound bloke - understated, but confident in his own abilities. I also think that, what with local pride being on the line, and Macklin's comments, we'll see a more determined Elcock. Macklin certainly won't be taking many backwards steps, so this one will hopefully be a cracker. I'd be tempted to brave visiting the mother-in-law in Sutton Coldfield and catching this live, were it not for the fact that I'm as skint as a badger after a Christmas/New Year splurge.

Wayne's not the biggest middleweight I've seen, but I think Elcock's experience will edge a close one.

Not too fussed who wins out of:
Skelton-Rogan
Appleby-Lindsay
Macklin-Elcock
Rhodes-Small

but the others (Munroe, Moore, Khan and McDermott) are the ones that I want to (and think will) win

Just wondered whose corner you would be in for the local derby's.

Cuts aside, Bendall v McDermott is a good one. Bendall proved there's still plenty in him at Enlgish title level when decisioning Paul Smith.

I wondered if Bendall may be a bit too cagey for Macca. however i know he has sparred with Bendall (before the elcock fight) so hopefully he can work out the southpaw/boxing style

The big plus point for McDermott is he doesn't wait to lead off like Paul Smith does. He may not whack as hard as Smith but he sets about his work quickly and that's what you have to do with a skilled southpaw like Bendall.

I have feeling cuts might blight this one anyway, but if not, it's a good fight I'm looking forward to.

If pushed I'd probably be in Macklins corner for the Elcock clash, purely because he's the younger of the 2 and it's be better for Midlands boxing. I'd also be in McDermotts corner for the Bendall clash if pushed, even though he's one of those dirty wolves scumbags, as he's the more local fighter to me and we've already seen what Bendalls limitations are

good points chambers too. I also think that for the neutral (not that I am in any way neutral) a macca win would be better- if Bendall does win, IMO, it would be through spoiling like in the smith fight

heh, he confused me by not wearing a wolves shirt into the ring a la Rob Kenney and Dean Harrison, confounding rumours (spread by albion fans) to the effect that wolves fans literally live in their shirts and wear them to bed/ for weddings/ court appearances/ funerals/ bar mitzvahs etc :)

If it goes home with Macklin he'll just piss it up the wall and will be talking world title shots or big fights that don't involve the British title. I can't see Macklin being in any sort of rush to box Darren Barker for instance, which would be a natural. Or Paul Smith, which is easy to make and would be real blood and thunder clash.

I think Macklin will win be good fight though.

How come it's on the same night as the Khan-MAB fight? Surely from a promotional point of view it would make sense for that not to be the case?

Butch I take your point about Macklin's lofty ambitions but I am sure, as a boxing scholar, Macklin would love nothing more than a Lonsdale belt for keeps. It would take some doing but I am sure it is an ambition of his (although he has to get past Mad Dog first before he can think of defending it - no easy task!)

Happen last time with Froch's world title shot, a PPV clashed with an ITV live bill.

I would suspect a lot of people will be recording the ITV show.
