Sorry, but the Prescott knockout was no freak happening. Khan is very chinny and very poor defensively. He was in trouble against Limond and Gomez before getting sparked by Prescott and has never looked truly comfortable when under fire. Are you telling me that even a shot Barrerra can't land the punches that Limond and Gomez did? I'm not buying that.

Barrera is definitely removed from his his prime years, but he's still the most clever and technically astute fighter Khan will have ever been near in his life. Barrera sparks Khan out if he lands ANYTHING flush. I'd also give MAB a great chance of hurting Khan to the body. If Khan thinks Gomez digs hard to the ribs, wait until he feels a few MAB left-hooks.
Very well put, Khan may get to Euro level or fringe World, but thats it. Barrera has been around a long time, been in many wars, and is 35 but he still remains at World level and has only been stopped once. Khan has youth and size as an advantage but he lacks experiance and has a poor chin which MAB will exploit. Khans record to read "and 2".

14th March, that soon?

I'll probably miss it anyway, I'll be very busy from the 13th.

Anyone know TV details yet if I am able to catch it?

Warren said that it's pretty much a done deal, and there are just a few details left to sort out, so I don't think the contracts are signed yet.

TV details will be released next week, according to Warren.

I cant beleive they are matching Khan with Barerra so soon after Amir was decapitated by Prescott.

Barerra even as ancient as he is, if properly prepared, will finish Khan. Amir is way too open.

I will believe the fight is happening when the first bell goes.

Maybe they know something about Barerra we dont.

OK, thats the discaimer...if, as it seems MAB gets announced today as Amirs next foe then what does everyboday think???

Heres my take...I have no wish for my favourite foreign fighter to be used as a stepping stone for young prospects...the man is a legend, he deserves better. Even if he wins, so what? Breidis Prescott beat Amir and he may never win a world title IMO.

Though Marco is probably not shot, he is well past his best...his best may be good enough to beat Amir but please just retire, dont go on too long, you have earned you're retirement
Trust me Barrera won't be no stepping stone for Khan, remember Hamed? people thought Barrera going to be fed to Hamed. And don't think he comes to lose, he has too big of a pride.
If Warren thinks of MAB as a stepping stone, its gonna be a huge stone falling on his head !

Be a good fight if it happens. Marco is still a good fighter, but he's losing his pace. Damned sight better than Gomez at any rate.

Have to agree!!!

MAB is a legend in my eyes - but he is past his best!!!

Was speaking to his brother in law at length before and after the Barrett/Haye fight and stated to him then that I thought Marco should enjoy his retirement and the fortune he has earned from the ring.

Looking from another perspective - its a very very clever piece of matchmaking on SNs part - Khan will win the fight, he will look good doing so as well - Khan is in against a smaller man, and one that never had a concusive single punch but a fighter who got where he did due to his skill and speed and massive heart - but Khan is fighting in boxing terms an old man - and I think its quite sad that MAB has accepted the fight.

...& I'd just like to say:

1) Has someone spiked my coffee?

& if not:

2) Marco does not win this. Cavil all you like, but the dude's too small + ring wear + never a concussive one-shot hitter +not his best weight + Freddie Roach in the opposite corner = wonderful piece of matchmaking, but I can't see past a Khan points win.

3) There is nothing, repeat, nothing short of having my legs lopped off that would prevent me going to see this, if only to pay my respects to my favourite fighter of the past decade. I missed him when he battered Lloyd, I'll not miss this.

4) To Riddick &c: Dude, if you think Amir's going to do anything else than stand back & jab & potshot Marco all night long you are deluded. I'd rush in against Gomez & Willie Limond, but only a retard would do the same against Barrera.

Khan isn't that inexperienced. Getting flattened has been, I feel, the making of him.

5) I will cry like a great big Jesse when Khan's hand is raised, & would probably consider sucking the collective cock of the security/hang around to 8 am the next morning outside his dressing room to get close enough to Marco to tell him that I love him.

VIDEO OF BARRERA'S LAST TUNE-UP:

http://www.dailymotion.com/swf/x7cj56

I know it's basically a sparring session, but he looks so old in there.

6:31 shows us he's still got a left hook to the liver, though.

Watching it, his regression of speed & defence doesn't worry me (knew that!) I was impressed that he can still remember the gaucho.

I just don't think he's got the engine any more to win vs Khan. He's been fading in the engine department since... Morales III? He was fecked down the straight in that.

Khan will end up like Audley Harrison, he has already lost once, he will lose a second time in less the 20 fights and will fade into oblivion...
Look at Barrera in this video, look how easy he dismantles this journeyman, he does what he wants, he still has it. Think of Hopkins vs Trinidad, and yet Khan is no near having the experience Tito had already.

If a washed up Michael Gomez can absorb Khans quick flurries and put him down ... then what will a washed up Barrera do?

Khan will/must keep it at distance .. and the old Mexican should know enough after all these years to close him down.

Barrera may be an overweight superbantam/feather .. but he really is solidly built .. have a look how big his head is..

Barrera is arguarbly the most experienced fighter in boxing who is still fighting, he can box, he can brawl, he's going to take Khan apart one piece at a time.

I don't know what you think a shot fighter looks like, but that ain't it.

Barrera is on his toes, firing out a variety of accurate shots, still has nice movement, good defence. He has no problems with the guy at all. He won't have any issues finding Khan's chin, and when he does it'll be goodnight Vienna.

Also, the difference between a guy who would actually be able to pot shot Barrera to a 12 round decision and Khan is defence and chin. Khan has no defence or chin so he can't rely on avoiding or absorbing Barrera's shots for the duration of the fight. Someone of Barrera's workrate and skill will be landing at will on this type of guy, reach advantages or no. And due to Marco's own superior defense and toughness, he won't be troubled in return, expecially against a clown who thinks he's an offensive wizard but couldn't put a dent in a blown up 5"4 flyweight. And people say Khan is "too big" for Barrera (?!!?!)

And about Prescott, LOL. Hell, we don't even know if Prescott is a genuine puncher yet! For all we know he's about to step up in class and suddenly not look like such a killer after all...but if you want to believe Prescott is an unstoppable punching machine based on all those KO's against clubfighters, I guess you're entitled to your opinion. Let me guess - 'But he's so big and strong!!!!

MAB does the job. Why break sweat with a bum. He gets a few rounds in rather than blast the guy out in one. The video shows Barrera in total control getting of his bodyshots and the odd one to the head. Khan cant take bodyshots and we all know what his chin is like. MAB can choose how he finishes Khan. No he doesnt look old or shot, I grant you he isnt what he was but Khan is no MOrales and you still need to rather special to beat Barrrera and Khan isnt. Why because his defense is too open, and he cant take shots to the chin or body. Never mind Prescott with heavy hands KOing him the Limond and Gomez fights didnt go well for Khan. Limond came close to beating him and Gomez in his prime would have easily beat him. Even a prime Gomez could never have lived with MAB so how can Khan expect to beat Barrera. I expect Khan to gain the advantage early on by fighting at range and scoring with his jab. I feel by rounds 5/6 Khan will get reckless with flurries and Barrera playing the waiting game will nail him.

A word about Prescott v Khan. Many of Prescotts opponents had never won a fight. When Prescott did step up in class his opponent took him all the way. He isnt that good but he does have a lethal punch if he can land it. Prescott knew Khan couldnt take a punch and expected him to get reckless around round 4 so he predicted a KO in that round. As it happened Khan was reckless from the word go and Prescott nailed him. I thought the fight was a mismatch in Khans favour and had Khan fought with his brain it would have looked like a very good win on paper. Its only when you look at the details of Prescotts record you realise its not that good. Khans big head was his worst enemy that night thinking he could do to Prescott what Prescott did to him. Has Khan learned from that experiance, no not at all. He thought Prescott was easy pickings. Now he thinks Barrera is, smaller fighter, on the slide and 35 and not as fast as he is. Barrera is by far his toughest opponent ever and Khan wont hurt him. He wont even wear him down because Barrera will fight at his own pace. Barrera will nail Khan when Khan rushes in doing one of his famous flurries. You dont get to fight 72, a three weight World champion, having fought in 20 title fights and lose to a chinny prospect who cant take a good body punch. MAB is still a World class fighter, not a has been in serious decline. He is still up there with the best and looking to win the LW title to add to his tremendous legacy. Expecting Khan to win this is like the wishfull thinking some of us had of Hatton beating Mayweather.

After reading some of the posts on this particular thread - I am sorry got to disagree with people who say MAB will win this fight.

He is one of my all time heros in boxing - but quite simply he is way way past his best - in addition it is one of the best pieces of matchmaking by SN they have ever done!!!

When a fighter goes past their best the decline can be in some cases quite rapid and quite sad - its cases like MAB where you see a great fighter where I certainly wish he would retire or his achievements get diminished by young upstarts with no chin like Amir Khan.

If Khan at his best were to fight MAB at his best then I agree there is no contest - MAB would have ripped Amir Khan to pieces - he would have played with him.

Amir Khan wins the fight alright and does so inside the distance in my view too - and watch the b*llocks and hyp increase all over again.

I will state it again - an extremely clever piece of matchmaking by Sportsnetwork - it shows why W arren remains in the business and I hate to say it - but it shows why he is one of the best promoters out there.

Spud, Barrera is past his best but he did run the P4P #1 pretty close not that long ago, and the P4P #2.

He didn't move like a shot fighter in December.

IF Khan wins it is pretty damn credible.

Of course if Khan wins it will have to be deemed as being credible - there is no other way of looking at it.

All I am saying "Stu" is that I find this fight an incredible piece of matchmaking - I am being serious - I simply do not see any other winner other than Khan - he is bigger, he is now faster than the faded MAB, he is younger, and he is hungrier than MAB a fighter who has seen it and done it.

When the fight was first made I thought thats the end of Khan - but then thinking logically about it - for a start what the f*ck does MAB want to be fighting a young upstart who has yet to prove himself for? - this is a no win situation for MAB and a win win situation for Khan - that is another reason why I feel it is an incredible piece of matchmaking!!!

Make no mistake - Khan wins this fight and he does so inside the distance.

Well I think Barrera boxing ability might just be a factor in why Khan might not win. Khan might be faster, stronger and fitter - although everyone thought Naz would be faster than Barerra also. Remember Barrera is the naturally smaller guy, so should have some speed against big Lightweights.

Khan has defensive frailities that have been exposed by Gomez - an aging Super Feather not near Barrera's league, then I think Barrera is capable of it also. Barrera is a fighter who has got it all, argueably the most complete fighter of the Millenium.

Not saying Khan cannot win, I think offensively he has the ability to beat ANYONE at Lightweight. He is a monster at the weight, is getting stronger all the time, fit and lightening quick. I think the opening 3 rounds will be telling, if Khan cannot hurt Barrera early - then I suspect Marco will be just to good and mug him ala Grant vs Rhodes.

Barrera is still quick enough to floor Marquez and to catch Pacquiao on a regular basis. His performances against those two should be commended - although it is 1 year ago.

Realistically Khan has no hope here. We all know about the limmond and gomez crises, and the prescott blast out. This is a different type of fighter alltogether.

UNLESS the FIX is on, Khan has no chance.

Barerra will absolutely destroy him, and give him a lesson in the process. Amazing that he is jumping up from fighting OSIN FAGAN to MARCO ANTONIO BARRERA. To me, its a CASH OUT fight. Khan is basically cashing out. He probably figures that he doesn't want to lose to another "Prescott" and might as well step up. Good thinking but unfortunately he is in for another hiding.
ing

Khan won't earn big for this one, they will be paying an almighty sum for Barrera to come over.
