I had Paul edging that fight when it got stopped. I agree, that fight should've gone to the scorecards - the second accidental headbutt caused his eye to close very rapidly. I think the referee stopped it because of that. Please change the rule.

I had it dead level at the time of the stoppage. Poor stoppage as well, it was not that bad an injury.
Simpson was starting to take control and would probably gone on to win it, maybe by late stoppage.
The ruling in respect of cuts like that is so wrong. Why not just go to the cards or call it a no contest?

The Truscott camp should thank the doc for making sure there was some of Paul left to fight another day....
Im not going to call Mowgli a liar, but since John isnt here to vouch HIMSELF for those comments I will hold fire on their validity..
Heres the news, Simpsons body attack was wearing Truscott down badly and he was going to put the hurt on him in the last few rounds..
Truscott should never have been allowed near commonwealth title..he isnt physically mature, and even if you can beat an African, some big names are coming for you! Truscott should be allowed to learn the trade, not rushed...look at Kevin Anderson for how not to do things
BTW, Truscott was a class act after the fight and is someone I hope to see succeed, both for himself and his community

I don't think the cut was the worst, it was the swelling that caught the referee's eye. I also thought it was stopped too early, especially when the fight was close and due to the fact that there was a title on the line. I would've give it a few rounds more.

I think Truscott might develop more power as he naturally moves up in weight, which I think would be a big advantage for him.

The cut was,nt that bad but it was the swelling, after the fight,Paul's eye was almost totally shut,i have to admit that the ref called it right.

I think the cut saved Truscott from a beating. He looked knackered and Simpson was bashing him all the way round the ring. Truscott looks a good prospect but is really young and has some growing to do. He struggled in that last 8-rounder he had.
I hope they allow him time to come back, rather than putting him straight in another title fight - doubt it though

No disrespect, but as a father, I would say the same thing. After the fight, the eye would've closed anyways, regardless of the severity. My point still remains though, that Paul's eye was still in a state were he could effectively box. I agree that Simpson was getting to Paul and probably would've stopped him, but at the time, the fight was still close and the title on the line meant that, for me, the referee stopped it too quickly. If I was you, I would be a little peeved off that this country doesn't employ the "technical decision" rule that when a fight is stopped because of an accidental headbutt, it should go to the cards. I had Paul ahead by one round incidentally.
Just my opinion though.

I didn't know about that fight. Was it booked before he took on Truscott?
A rematch will probably come, but I think Truscott probably would benefit from another bout in the intrim too.
