Do you seriously think that Froch would gain any sort of credibility from fighting Elcock, particularly on the international scene? The answer is... not a chance.

I dont think any right thinking person would consider this fight as an option for Froch.

Elcock has had a world title fight and given that he did quite well, he will want another taste of it with better notice.

He has plenty on his hands with the British title right now though.

Froch has nothing to gain from this. Surely he will go for fights to advance his own career, not Elcock his sort of stablemate.

He has a rep as a powerful, "big" super middle. However he isn't that big, he's a former middle, and was down vs Codrington. If Froch could get a guy like Bika out of there it would go down well.

Carl Froch tells Jermain Taylor: put up or piss off

Carl Froch's promoter has asked the World Boxing Council to "create a cast-iron deadline" for purse bids for the Nottingham boxer's super-middleweight world title defence against mandatory challenger Jermain Taylor.

The American fighter's promoter, Lou DiBella, withdrew from last Friday's purse bid deadline, then the WBC postponed purse bids due to "unforeseen circumstances".

Mick Hennessy, Froch's promoter, is now insistent that a new deadline must be set next week. "We are speaking to the British Board of Control, because it is also partly their concern," Hennessy said. "We want the issue clarified. Carl is happy to fight Jermain Taylor, but not on the terms being offered, which were ludicrous."

It is understood that Froch was being offered $650,000 (£454,000) to fight in the United States, with Taylor set to take home $1.6 million (£1.1 million). The champion-challenger split in a title fight is generally 70-30 in the champion's favour.

Hennessy added: "Carl has no fear of Taylor, and we would fight them in the States, but given the offers being made, purse bids seemed the best way of sorting it out. That way, the fight will find its level. If Taylor then wants to fight, he can take it, otherwise step down, and we can go ahead and organise a voluntary defence. The way they are shaping up they don't want the fight."

If Taylor steps down as mandatory challenger, Froch would then have a voluntary defence with Mads Larsen, the 35-year-old Danish fighter with a 51-2 win/loss record, a possible opponent.

Froch, 31, unbeaten in 24 fights, has had seven weeks off after his bruising 12-round victory over Jean Pascal of Canada to be crowned world champion in December.

The WBC super-middleweight champion is keen to get back to work, with Hennessy having offered Taylor an April date in Nottingham.

Froch said: "There's been a deafening silence from Jermain about the fight.

"His own promoter has admitted publicly that they don't have too many attractive options right now and yet they are still running from the only fight that means anything on the world scene – a fight for the most prestigious belt in boxing."

Froch added: "I've always believed that Taylor doesn't really have the heart for battle anyway, he has all the physical tools required to be a great fighter but he likes to fight in a comfort zone. When you step into that ring with me there's no comfort zone and there's no hiding place."

Hennessy aims to have three WBC champions in his stable by the end of the year, with light-welterweight Junior Witter in an eliminator for the WBC 140lb title against Don King promoted Devon Alexander, and Herbie Hide set for a WBC cruiserweight eliminator in Cuxhaven, Gemany, in March, against Matt Godfrey.

Knew that one was coming - if thats the case then do as the headline says - move on elsewhere - Hennessy is not stupid he know Taylor is a big name - one which Froch will deal with very easily with and then lets get the unifications on!!!

But this on and off with Taylor is now getting boring - Froch should be respected as the WBC champ and Taylor should now be f*cked off - lets get the unification fights on.

But - avoid Kessler for as long as possbile - that is one fight even including Calzaghe I have always stated the "styles" in my view make Kessler a massive favourite - where as Calzaghes style would be perfect for Froch.

Bit harsh, I've never been a fan of Taylor but he gave Pavlik after his elminator when others might have taken the opportunity to move up and avoid him. HE also fought Wright who a lot of people wouldn't go near. Hi resume is pretty good compared to most in his division.

He was shit vs ouma and spinks but other than Sturm there weren't many others availible to fight at that point

Froch is 31, and feels ready to be taken off the leash - he needs to fight in the states to get the fights in the future. US TV would lap up Taylor vs Froch. If Bute vs Zuniga can make US TV, so can Froch vs Taylor - but may not in Nottingham.

I just don't want to see a carbon copy of Witter's WBC title reign.... I'm convinced losing bids and getting his fights against Corley and Harris would have done far better in the long run for Witter.

No doubt $645K (plus the tv right in the UK) would be by far Froch's biggest purse to date. What the hell does he want exactly? To make 1.6 millions and Taylor 650K? hahahahahahah

Try reading Hennessy's comments again. he didn't ask for a 70-30 split in Froch's favour, he simply said that this was the usual split between champion and challenger. He clearly said it to highlight Taylor's ludicrous demands. Taylor may have more marquee value in the States, but there needs to be some acknowledgment that he is the challenger, not the champion. Froch is an unbeaten champion on the rise and has just beaten an undefeated prospect in a thriller. The deal with Taylor should reflect that. If the fight takes place in the States then about 50/50 sounds right to me.

At least it shows that Froch was offered the fight in the US - 500k is reasonable, like I have said before, sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture.

Leaving it to purse bids is not the way to get Taylor in the ring - So Mads Larsden it is...

Froch vs Taylor in the states - is the ideal way to get Froch the big fights. HBO will lab it up, and thats what team Froch need. Otherwise, he can look at his stablemate Junior Witter and other champions like Clinton Woods. Getting home town advantage is huge yes, but I think had the Woods vs Johnson trilogy been in the states - it could have made Clinton a star. Look how long it took Joe to get recognised, and, in order to get the big names - Kessler, Hopkins (maybe) etc - Froch needs USA TV approval/backing.

Froch beats Taylor impressively on US soil, infront of a HBO audience - it means he could get Hopkins in the UK... albeit probably at US time.
