boxingchat wrote:Spud, did he ever actually have a TV deal in place? I know he tried to give the rights away to ITV (Hardly a smart move and in the interests of the sport as a whole I might add) but they weren't interested in the product for one and secondly because the production costs were still not within their budget restraints. Furthermore, FA had no substance to back up Jeffries early fights and after Audley's embrionic career no TV exec was going to fall for that and show a 4 or 6 round contest on prime time, with no back up.

Jeffries states publically that it's not Dennis' fault but privately it's no secret that he is seething. He didn't receive his signing bonus nor the car he was promised either did he, hence the reason the deal has gone pear-shaped? You stated recenty (and with a puffed-out chest no doubt) that Fight Academy were thriving and then almost at the same time this news breaks - mugged you off a a tad I think!.

So enlighten us Spud because whilst you waive the FA flag with pride you really don't know the truth of whats going on do you? The truth and the facts are that FA took a punt and it backfired (Thats commendable in one respect and unfortunate in another) but the hard facts are, before anyone blames ITV for this debacle, is that there never was an ITV deal or the possibility of one either according to ITV.

Tony Jeffries has been let down badly and maybe he should blame himself initially for taking what was undoubtedly a good offer, the best out there no doubt, but he was blinkered by size of the carrot instead of looking at the ground in which it was growing.

Needless to say, with the dreaded credit crunch in full swing and budgets being cut everywhere, not to mention most of the big Promoters now having signed their new faces, set their dates and selling tickets, Tony may find himself taking a smaller offer than he would have got originally had he not signed with Hobson in the first place.

Forget the fact that many people are indeed using the excuse of the credit crunch and TV budgets being cut, in this case it appears to me that Tony Jeffries was duped from the off by Fight Academy and the deal he was offered was just pie in the sky from day one.

Perhaps you can enlighten us all Spud and let me know if I'm off the mark.

Too late.
He's been spotted boarding a plane for Cyprus after checking in a suitcase crammed full with teabags.

This is a national disgrace.

Someone give this Olympian a big money TV deal and flash car signing on bonus quick.

I would hate the thought of him having to have some pro fights before earning a decent crust  :P

As for the FW/SN situation with TV - very healthy would be the simple answer!

And finally, I can't help thinking of the insults and accusations that would have been posted on here if FW or SN had treated Jeffries in the way FA appear to have?
Boxing Chat - indeed your posts may or may not have some truths in it - but why don't you ever enlighten the forum of what is going on at your own promotional outfit!!! :TU:

Now you are a man in the know - is there any truth there has been some serious back peddling done by some boxing promoter due to legal issues at a certain TV company? and now a certain promoter is "caught between a rock and a hard place" due to walking out on one TV channels exclusive deal and now possibly not being so exclusive with another and all this in such a short space of time!!! - if the legal boys have found loopholes here and there in contracts then good luck and I hope all goes well!!! :TU: :TU:

Now please do not sit on that lofty perch of yours thinking you are beyond reproach because that certainly is not the case!!!

You will note I have highlighted your final point - in some ways I will eat humble pie and say its a valid point to make - but you will also note on numerous occasions I have applauded Mr W arren !! - so much so some f*cking idiot even thought I was his biggest fan on here - may hell freeze over if that ever happens!!!

All the best Boxing Tw*t - maybe one day our paths will cross - hopefully we will be on our own so you cant cry to your boss or security!!!

Yes - the show is a complete sell out and the Jersey public are very much looking forward to seeing Clinton fight - where incidentally he is extremely popular due to appearing on various functions.

Spoke to Clinton today (Fri 23 Jan 09) - says his sparring is going extremely well and he is thoroughly enjoying himself and cannot wait to prove a few people on here wrong!!

Clint is in a real fight - this Muriqi geezer is no knock over job and in my view Clinton will have to be at his very best to win.

I find it strange too mate - but in boxing no point in getting bitter and twisted about it !!!

I hold Dennis and Richard in high regard - but there are also other promoters out there who you could argue also deserve some form of TV exposure - there also plenty of promoters and fighters who have had bad luck etc etc - boxing is the weirdest sport of all - and the humour & banter although I enjoy it even when it turns against me sometimes, definitely belongs in the gutter.

I remain convinced and always will - Boxing politics is sometimes more interesting than the fights themselves!!! - its the politics behind the scenes that intrigues me and although I as a fan have that love/hate relationship with "boxing politics" - it seperates boxing from a lot of other boring and rather predictable sports!!!

Surely as an important member of Team Woods your paths would have crossed at the Reebok for the Glen Johnson fight. Or is it true that Team Woods was a man short that night ?

You cant stop yourself can you - boxing politics is part of boxing - a massive part whether you like it or not - and lets not get into a pathetically childish debate on who knows this and that - a forum is for debate and to join in threads when you wish!!

I'm not saying anything... although maybe you should check your achive when someone has attempted to contribute to a thread on the politics who might be less informed... its you who then question "their knowledge on boxing".

Boxing Politics is a part of boxing, yes. It is a fundamental part and I think a knowledge of it is essential (although not hard to grasp) when it comes to understanding why certain fights will not be made. It is something that should be encouraged for people "in the loop" to teach posters here you made know alot about stuff inside the ropes, but not aware of the politicking that goes on... instead of quotes such as "your knowledge of boxing is truly pathetic". Whilst it is important, its not the be all and end all. My old man hasn't a clue about the boxing politics, although is learning, but he knows a good fighter when he sees one - thats every bit as important as knowing who is fighting for which promoter, with which TV deal.

And note, it isn't just YOU plenty of "in the loop" contributers do it... and I read Politics threads and contribute every now and again as it adds to the foru,, just would like to see the Fan of the sport come out every now and again, not JUST the fan of the politics.

I'd love to hear your viewpoints on fighters who you have not have/had an association with... and boxingchat and the others also.

Boxing politics threads are fine, and I have started my fair share, but when it takes over discussing signed fights - gets a little bit much. Yes, given the Jonathon Banks situation and the PPV in December, I think it is only right that we need to discuss whether we think it is some elaborate hoax or something - however, when more threads/contributions have been on this aspect, over discussing the actual fight - which I think is one of the biggest, historically relevant, fascinating, hard to call fights in a UK ring this century - then something is a little wrong.

Sorry completely disagree - who the f*ck are you to say what is fine or not ??

It gets said time and time again on here - if you dont like what is being said - join in another thread.

Whether you like it or not boxing politics is massive.

Look on this thread - a tv contract, a boxers contract and loss of boxing to our terrestrial tv screens - all the ingedients which make up the boxing politics.

Look what is going on with Pacman/Hatton.

I could go on and on - stop coming with your sh*t Stu your comment was directed at me and others on this thread - and whether you like it or not what is happening with Tony Jeffries at the moment is because of what is going on outside of the ring!!!

It is a good fight mate.
What is the venue over there? I haven't seen a poster on any sites.
Quite a few Brit fight personalities have gone over there for after dinner and amateur shows and enjoyed it.

ugghh? Whats with the paranoia? I merely said that it would be nice to here some peoples views on the stuff inside the ropes in addition to the insightful comments on the boxing politics.

Yes, I know boxing politcs is a big part of boxing, didn't you read my response. Your preaching to the converted there.

And as for my shit and "pathetically childish debate" into who knows what - again, I never debated anything I just said that chief contributors to boxing politics threads are far more silent on inside the ropes stuff... that is not a "debate" and I didn't question yours, or anyone else's knowledge of inside the ropes stuff.... all I said was that you/boxingchat and others are quiet when it comes to those matters. Even still, who was it who chiefly supporting Frank Maloney's idea of a "Boxrec vs Doghouse" quiz.... which sole purpose was to find out "who knows this and that" about boxing amongst us geeks.

All I implied with my post is that I would like to hear more contributions on stuff inside the ropes, you've responded with a "I can post where and when I went to" - which is fine, your contributions to the politics side of things does strengthen the forum and thats good with me.

I'd like to know what Warren's plans are for Breidis Prescott. FW is blocking Prescott's next fight (or trying to). How many fights does Prescott owe Warren? He didn't bloody well sign his life away to get the Khan fight did he?

Stu - your comment had no place in the way the thread was going - in addition I completely disagree, concerning your comment about me writing about boxers capabilities etc etc - I continually make comment and as such I will revert to your comment being out of place - please do not do what others do by making a comment which at best can be construde as ambigious but in reality it was designed to get a rise out of myself and others - YOU SUCCEEDED - so why lose your spine by then reverting to "stop being paranoid Spud" - grow a spine Stu and if you wish to direct a comment directly in my way then have the balls to stand by it, instead of clever/subtle ambigious comments which you choose either direction when you are brought task about it.

As for the remainder of your post and indeed other posts I will concede you are one of the more knowledgeable posters around and I thoroughly enjoy reading some of your insights albeit I do not always agree which is why you make a fantastic contribution around here as that is what forums are all about - people voicing their opinions which they have every right to do!!!

Well thanks for the compliment, but really I am not that clever Spud. It wasn't intended to be "ambigious" comment designed to make you bite. It was a simple obersavation and to be honest I didn't expect any comment from anyone about.... as neither did Terry's previous comment that the Boxing Politics aspect is overtaking the forum did.

It was a reply to a post made by Terry saying, yes I agree and its a pitty they don't contribute more when stuff goes on inside the ropes.

Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not implying that Boxingchat and others are better, more dignified etc than you - I don't know them, and I don't know you - but other members time and time again have asked to here boxingchats opinions on fighters abilities and stuff and he remains silent. He doesn't justify why he doesn't and he doesn't "bite" to such "attacks"... my "attack" was simply an observation that has been made by countless better posters before me, and I think it was said at a good time when this forum seems to be more about the Politics than the fights in recent weeks.... be nice to get the balance back..as Terry stated previously.

So I applogise if you felt that was a dig, attack, etc... if you still think it was - it wasn't about you. I classed it as an observation, it wasn't supposed to be a dig - but an obvseration that it would be nice to hear your opinion on fights.
