Great performance by Shane but unfortunately for me it's tainted by the drugs allegations. It's really galling for me that a fighter with his skills and his attitude to taking the toughest matches 'allegedly' feels the need to cheat. Shame.

I do not think it had any bearing on this fight.
So he took steroids 5 years ago (allegedly) but it mafe no diffwerence to last night.
His standing in history may be tainted but has nothing to do with last nights PERFORMANCE..imo

I don't disagree with that DG, it's just that at a personal level I don't feel as good about the fight as I usually would do as a fan of the sport.

Like Mosley said, either him and Cotto have a rematch or Cotto and Margarito have a rematch and then Shane fights the winner. Either way, Mosley is the guy to beat now. I doubt Paul Williams will figure on the Welterweight scene any more. He was a huge drainer even before his recent fights at Middleweight and then Light Middleweight. In the Quintana rematch Williams put on over a stone overnight.
This has to be the route back for Cotto. He did it once, he can do it again. Thouhg Cotto and Molsey's performances v Margarito will certainly have a bearing. Arum is supposed to be gutted, but he can get his fave welterweight back to the top.

How about Mosley v Pacman - now THERE'S a great fight. Would be absolutely explosive. Think Mosley would be far too strong for him though.

If Pacquiao beats Hatton then he'd probably be up for that. I agree, great fight.

What can you say, World class boxing at its best with Shane Mosley doing the impossible, or at least we thought it was, stopping Margarita and winning every round. Moseley at 37 looked ten years younger and fought with skills equal to Mayweather who I think with that performance, he could beat.

Mosley vs Mayweather is a fight I've wanted to see for years.
Great performance from Mosley, but I cannot believe the Margarito fans are saying "it wasn't the real Margarito".
He got outboxed by Williams convincingly, and also by Daniel Santos. He was getting a kicking against Cotto, untill Cotto's stamina/ticker went, similarly Antonio Diaz way back when, Joshua Clottey looked set for victory untill his hand went.
Margarito DOESN'T have the skills set of a great, he is a big powerful lad, with limited shot variety and a FANTASTIC chin. Some fantastic attributes to have, but lets face it - he is not invinsible.
His best wins have come against a bully in Cintron, who can dish it but cannot take it, and against Cotto - who had he fought with the BELIEF that he could hurt Margarito - like Mosley did then I am sure he would have won. Most of Cotto's clean shots were on the back foot, Cotto isn't the quickest, but he was making Margarito look silly for large chunks of the fight.
Yes, I thought Margarito would get to Mosley in the end... mainly because of Mosley's last two performances - his stamina wasn't at its best against Cotto at 147, and he looked finished against Mayorga (who I think is underated)... as it seems anyone who looks poor, or loses to him is "finished" or not very good in the first place. I didn't realise Mosley had so much left.
Well actually, I don't think Mosley was ever the same fighter after the first Forrest loss, but the way he has adapted has been brilliant. He is a fantastic fighter at 147, it could be argued that he has only lost once in this devision (Cotto fight was razor tight), compare to his 154+ form and you could say his only meaningful "geniune" wins were against a faded Vargas and his last second win over Mayorga.

And? What is wrong with that. Mosley is a big 147 lber, Hatton it could be argued hasn't won a fight at 147 lbs.

Pacman is a blown up Bantamweight, he can compete higher up, but Ricky can't? Thats is why Hatton is never ever going to be anything near a great.
Yet some still mention Hatton as a P4P top 10 fighter?
Mosley started off as a lightweight. Pacman as Straw weight but Haton who satrted off as a Lt Welter(?) can;t go up 7lbs and when despite the fact he weighs more on the night than his opponent?
Mosley was a great in my mind and he STILL is after last night!

Would be interested to see where Margorito goes from here. Lets face it he has a basic skillset so how does he come back from this shellacking
Do the EPO revalations taint this win?
I don't think he can ever be the same fighter against (Margarito).. his whole aura was on his ability to outlast bigger punchers (Cintron) and better boxers (Cotto). Its never been based on his skills. I think the fact he got KO'd and KO'd badly will damage him physically and also mentally - well maybe not him so much mentally, but will give the others fighters a boost.
Plus, now he is back on the outside looking in, I think he can only fight the elite and I think Mosley, Clottey and Cotto (depending how much he has left physically) beat him in rematches now.
Berto, DLH (at 147) and a few others might be avenues... but I don't think he will ever be the "man" again at the devision. The auro that he cannot be broken, has gone.
Have to say though, he does have remarkable skin - that was a hard and at times dirty (Nazim Richardson!) fight yet in the post fight interview, there didn't seem to be a mark on him!

I never saw that coming. What a great fight and a top drawer performance by Mosely. He had power, speed and a killer strategy.
Margarito did not know what hit him and despite a great chin, he was simply out hustled in there.
Hope Maragrito and Cotto have a rematch with the winner to face Mosely. Cotto did not have the power to trouble Margarito, but Mosely sure did.
There is talk of Hatton/pacman v Mosely. On that form last night he would blast both of them into next week in the first 4 rounds. Hatton could not live with that kind of power.
Mayweather returning to take on Mosely?? Would be a cracker if Mosely fought like that again.

Rule HATTON out of it - he would not dare challenge Mosley.
As for the other guys Pacman get destroyed and quickly!
Mayweather? he would not be abke to hurt Mosley and the soeed is on a par it not slightly in Mosley's favour.
Won't happen - but it should!

The biggest certainly all year (barring crazy cuts and bumps) was that this fight was going the distance.
I fancied Mosley to win on points...simply can't believe how utterly shit Margarito was.

Wow! I couldn't believe my eyes. I knew Mosley would be buzzing around Margarito landing fast combos and not taking too much back but i thought the effort he would have to put in would mean he'd slow down after 4 and his pummelling would begin.
Mosley was loading up his shots with power but staying very mobile which he couldn't see to do against Winky which made all the difference.
Not to take anything away from Mosley but even before it started i thought Margarito looked very different from the Cotto fight. I heard he weighed in low but i thought he had a weight drained look.
I wondered whether he's feels like he's finally reached the top and started living the good life a little too much. It's a liitle quick for the silk sheets syndrome to kick in though.
Well Mosley won't be retiring any time soon now.

It's amazing how Mosley went from the Mayorga fight to this fight - he was a different man completely. I thought Margarito was shit though. Yes, he's limited but he's usually decent on the counters and goes to the body a lot more, something he didn't do last night. I was amazed when Margarito got KO'ed though, that was the last thing I expected. It was the brutality of it which surprised me the most. I also still think a Cotto/Margarito II fight in the summer is a very credible option. Shane can get in a defence in between, and Tony can sneak in a confidence builder like he did against Johnson - the the winner of Cotto/Margarito (providing Cotto wins against Jennings) in the summer would be perfect with the winner to fight Mosley. Very exciting times in the 147lbs division.
Although Cotto/Mosley II in the next fight I wanna see if Cotto beats Jennings.

Thing is DG, Hatton is a compact fighter with a short reach. LWW is the best weight for his size. People like Mosely and Pacman have exeptional skills to beat naturally bigger men. Hatton doesnt have those skills but he does hit hard and hes fast.

Hatton is far from P4P material. He's fine against an opponent who suits his style, but put him in with a margarito and he's lose painfully.

margarito does what ricky does.
admittedly arguably better.
better in some aspects anyway.
still say it's speedy boxers that give him most problems.
as opposed to come forward guys.
