On the Demspey issue, as well as what Terry rightly said about it crumbling I also heard it argued that if it did set hard it would have damaged Dempsey's hands.
I happen to agree that Dempsey hit Willard very hard and very often and don't think he needed to load his gloves.

Personally I think Dempsey hit Willard very hard and very often, that is why he got busted up. Maybe the same with Tony, we'll wait and see what the commission says.
Earl, Aye, Lewis got, rightly villified, for what he did, it will be interesting to see what happens in this one. The 'mosley is a cheat' argument is one thing, but fixed gloves can cause high damage, lasing ones also, didn't Collins's life sprial out of control, and end in a car crash, because of the damage done to his body and career in that fight.
T...Yep, pleaded their innocence for years...until the films release when they owned up. Think the family are still chasing them through the civil courts.

Margarito Suspended!
Trainer Javier Capetillo also suspended
Following is a statement by Tim Noonan, Chairman of the California Athletic Commission, regarding Antonio Margarito:
“The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) has temporarily suspended the licenses of Antonio Margarito and his chief corner man, Javier Capetillo. The temporary suspension will remain in effect until CSAC has fully investigated the circumstances surrounding events at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on January 24, 2009. A foreign substance was found by California State Athletic Commission staff in the hand wraps of Antonio Margarito before his bout against Shane Mosley at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The substance found in Margarito’s hand wraps is currently being analyzed by the California Department of Justice. An investigation as to whether either licensee violated CSAC rules is ongoing. Mr. Margarito and Mr. Capetillo have been asked to appear at an initial hearing scheduled for February 10, 2009.”
“The licenses of Mr. Margarito and Mr. Capetillo were suspended pursuant to Business and Professions Code section 18842, which allows for the temporary suspension of a license when such an action is necessary to ‘protect the public welfare.’ CSAC Rule 323 limits the amount and type of gauze and tape allowed under a fighter’s boxing glove. Rule 390 allows CSAC to discipline a licensee when his or her actions are a “discredit to boxing” or violate the rules of CSAC.
“Commission staff will have no further comment until such time as the Commission makes a final determination of whether licensee actions in this case warrant fines, suspensions, or the revocation of licenses. The Commission has asked Mr. Margarito and Mr. Capetillo to appear at an initial hearing currently scheduled for February 10, 2009.”

NAAZIM RICHARDSON: "IT WAS BRICKED UP GAUZE THAT HAD BLOOD STAINS ON IT"
"Man, I saw that block fall out of them wraps and I wanted to punch Margarito's trainer in the mouth…It was bricked up gauze that had blood stains on it already and they had a piece of plaster over that. Man Perc, you let that shit get hard through the course of a fight and you've got trouble. Shane would have been sitting there like, 'How this motherf@#$er hitting harder in the 8th round and we're both tired?'" stated world-class trainer Naazim Richardson.
That's messed up. There's more from Brother Naazim in the full interview:

This casts a pitch black shadow over the rest of Margaritos career.
I'd like to here Cottos and Cintrons views on this

Margarito's one of my favourite fighters, but if this allegation is confirmed, then I'll lose all respect for the bloke.

Yes, if guilty then it is strange cause he didn't need to do it against Cotto. He surely had confidence that he would KO Mosley after his career best performance. Cause unlike with Drugs - this is something that is much more "obvious" and easier to regulate.

The thing with Cotto - he marked up badly in the Judah fight as well, face looked a real state. In other words it's not like we never saw Cotto mark up, and that he marked up cos Margarito must have had something in his gloves.
What an idiotic thing to do by Margarito and team, if true. HBO were all set to ask about Mosley's cheating. I'm sure the last thing Mosley would have wanted would be to answer questions about Balco again.

Maybe he did it against Cotto, only he got away with it, if found guilty you may as well flush every one of his wins away.
Maybe, I would like to think it is regulated strictly - it is not something you can really disguise (or it shouldn't be), but makes you think of any possible rules which can make it easier.... maybe fighters can wrap/glove up during the introductions? or TV cameras at all times?
What happend with the Tito allegations in the end - was it swept under the carpet? or was he innocent?

Agree Stu. Glove/hand preparation should be more in the open. Dressing rooms can be a mad-house prior to a fight.

Terence wrote:
The regulation often amounts to a designated person from the other camp being sent over to watched as they do the wraps. As you can imagine having Crocodile there shouting, "Mike gonna pimp you out son!" can lead to people overlooking things.
So when a guy like Richardson is sent over he must actually do what he is supposed to do, which is a rare thing in boxing.
Very true I would imagine, surely it can be regulated better than that. Drugs is hard to regulate and control, which leads to the stigma of "once a cheat always a cheat" -thats been labelled on Jones and now Mosley... and this could well be the case. With hand wraps, it should be easy to see - no fighter should get away with it. Yes they do of course, but that is only cause of people (friends/associated of the guy about to get illegally bashed about) not doing their job. Different to drug cheats, who can get away with it due to a lack of knowlegde/science in detecting it.... many performance enhancers are impossible to detect (still), this should be (its not I know) a relatively straight forward thing and easy to errors.
A question, more of a moral one and maybe controvesial etc (given feelings and all involved) if a fighter is caught cheating - after the fight - should the chief second/whoever (of the fighter who is going to get an illegal bashing) get prosecuted also? After all, their role is protecting their fighter - and they a being neglectful. Maybe completely unintentionally, well most definately, but still as you said it looks like Nazim did he job - others unfortunately, have missed cheats. Even if it is because the enterage etc made it awkard - surely they would have an authority to remove them for that process of hand wrapping, if they haven't - why not?
Agree, no matter what happens this will perminantly stain Margarito's career - even if innocent, people will remember this.

What this does highlight, is the very poor standard of officiating, that this had to be flagged up by Mosley's trainer.

I think this is spiralling way out of control. Look at the factors in the Cotto fight
1. Cotto is a little chinny, Mosley, Judah, Corley and Torres all nearly stopped him
2. Margarito hit Cotto with a constant barrage of shots clean, throwing 100 a round, getting hit in the head by 30-40 punches a round will take its toll on a fighter with a suspect chin over 11 rounds
3. No ones hit Cotto as many times as Margarito did
4. Cotto's stamina couldnt hold up against the pressure, he couldn't keep Marg off him because he didnt have the workrate
5. Marg just walked through Cotto's shots, did he put the plaster of paris on his chin?
Margarito didnt win those fights on power from a heavier/harder glove. I'm not sure if Margarito's team tried to cheat BUT if they did cheat the only real advantage they were getting must have been protected hands that could constantly punch without fear of breakages. Floyd Mayweather and Calzaghe could do with some of that stuff

Another point, Richardson also spotted the Tito hand wraps, maybe both wraps broke the rules slightly but Richardson is just using it all as kidology?

But all of those points, maybe if Margarito had the plaster in his gloves, it took everything away from Cotto early on?
Cotto is planning to open up on Margarito but take just the one in return but it hurts like hell. Makes Cotto more pensive and hesitant, Margarito kicks on from this.....
If Margarito is proven to have cheated this time then in my opinion his record should be completely deleted from the record books which means Cotto is undefeated.
I'm not particularly a Cotto fan but that's how I feel about it.
