It comes down to personal preference as to what style of boxing you find exciting. Some people prefer fights with a load of pitter-patter punches and points wins, where as some like myself find KO's and BIG punchers exciting to watch. Each to their own :box:

I hate boring points victories, but Calzaghe was an exciting fighter. I tend to prefer big punchers, but Calzaghe had a style that made him really good to watch, against the right opponent of course.

Granted Taylor may have indeed fought smaller opposition than himself sometimes, but in facing Hopkins twice & Wright, Jermain has fought two guys that were/are better than anyone Froch has ever faced.

Froch's last opponent was his toughest opponent. Don't get me wrong, I like Froch, but all this shit about smoking people's boots, ok its in proposition to hype the fight, generate publicity, but Taylor will be the most skilled fighter Froch has fought to date if they do eventually meet.

Will Froch be the toughest or most skillful fighter Jermain has faced to date if he boxes Froch? Not in my view.

I didn't say it was a boring fight, I said it was close. However Dale Westerman, Ruben Groenwald, Matthew Barney, Mark Woolnough, Vage Kocharyan and Charles Adamu were all messy and pretty dull affairs.

the point is...

froch knows taylor can be KO'd

taylor knows froch cant be hurt..

this will play on taylors mind, and i expect taylor to hide in his defensive shell while froch attempts to detonate some bombs on taylors chin.

questions for you fellas.....does froch hit harder than pavlik? is froch better than pavlik?

I like Froch, but that doesn't erase every opponent pre-Pascal who was utterly shit. He fought so many no-hopers that it was ridiculous.

Calzaghe beat a much more tested fighter for his title at a much less experienced, physically less mature stage than Froch did. No-one EVER had an easy night with Eubank. no-one.

Joe had a near prime Robin Reid, Mitchell, Brewer, Lacy, Kessler and a resurgent Hopkins. Of those, in their prime, all bar lacy beat Froch convincingly. Hell, why isn't he pushing for Kessler? Far more proven than Taylor at SMW, fresher, highly competitive with Joe.

What a surprise Froch has NOTHING to say about him.

Carl sounds bitter - yes, it's a shame Taylor won't fight you, but he's looking to cash out in his last three or four years as a fighter. He's fought solid opposition (Hopkins, Winky, Spinks, Pavilk) and always been competitive. Froch has Pascal who was untested at the eleite level. he brings almost nothing to the table that Taylor can't get elsewhere and for better money.

Facts are hard, but don't cry at joe for not giving a shit about you all those years. Most of the fans didn't either.

Is Pavlik's quality of opposition better than Froch's? yes. I do think Froch could beat him at SMW.

Difficult to say. Froch is possibly a better one-punch merchant than Pavlik. However, I think Pavlik has a better defence. What worries me about Froch, is that someone who punches straight and has quick hands will find him easy to hit. Froch got through Pascal by sticking to Plan 1, he will need more than that against Taylor - unless Taylor is gunshy now.

Froch closes in on Taylor fight

Carl Froch says he is "close" to finalising a deal to fight American Jermain Taylor in the first defence of his WBC super-middleweight title.

Negotiations have dragged on but the Nottingham boxer is confident the bout will take place in America in April.

"We're very close to doing it," the 31-year-old told BBC East Midlands Today. "I could say 'if you're not coming to England I'm not fighting'.

"But I want to go over to the States and make it big over there anyway."

A fight against mandatory challenger Taylor had been on the cards following Froch's thrilling victory over Canadian Jean Pascal at the Nottingham Arena last December

But the deal was in doubt because of financial reasons and Froch is just glad it looks like the fight will now go ahead - irrespective of location.

"It looks like it is going to be mid-late April, it's going to be in America - he won't come to England," Froch said.

"I could say 'I'm the champion, come to me'.

"But being who I am and the fighter I am, I want to go over to the States and there's no time like the present."

Reports in the US have claimed that the fight will be on 18 or 25 April in either New York or Florida.

Does that mean everything, is it the be all and end all?

If Taylor is in a sticky patch, can he say, "Give me a bit of room will ya, do you know who I am?"

In hard physical fights JT has faltered D12 Wright, L x2 to Pavlik. He is the smaller man moving up and looked a bit listless last time out. JT had faced comp better than anyone Pavlik had faced, but that didn't stop the bigger, stronger Pavlik from getting to him.

If Taylor was all that, he would have dazzled Lacy, looked great and be fighting Joe Calzaghe.

IMO another way of looking at it, Pascal a good stepping stone to fighting Taylor. Both have dynamic speed but suspect stamina, both throw telegraphed right hands.

Wouldnt be surprised if Taylor beat him

Great fight last time though and hope he does more of the same.

I do not think Winky would beat Froch, Froch is too big.

Hopkins is crafty and you won't get hurt.oh wait - jermain did get hurt!

Froch beats Taylor - Taylor has done nothung at 168 to tell me otherwise.

I don't understand how the promoters expect to sell tickets outside of the fighter's hometown/homestate.

Taylor has never been a big ticket seller except maybe when he was involve in mega fights (which Froch-Taylor isn't).

Froch isn't going to sell tickets in New York or Florida either.

I guess Showtime is dropping a shitload of money on this fight and the promoters don't need to sell tickets.

Otherwise it doesn't make sense to me.

Its beginning to get a bit old with Froch slating Calzaghe continuously. Calzaghe is one of my favourite fighters ever, and as an englishman i also want Froch to now go on and achieve what he has the potential to do. But Froch is begginning to sound stupid now with some of these comments, and unfortunately when/if he fights Taylor i can see myself not really being bothered if he loses. Just acknowledge Joe has had some great achievements and focus on your own career, because lets face facts, Taylor isn't a sure win for him, i think he'll do it but it'll be a lot closer than he thinks.

If ppl ask him, he's going to say what he thinks. Taylor has had a go at him, bringing Calzaghe into it, so Froch or the Hennessy press guy has answered it.

Taylor gets shot at belt vs. Froch
BY CHRIS GIVENS
ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE, February 4, 2009
LITTLE ROCK — Jermain Taylor is training for another title shot.

Ozell Nelson, Taylor’s trainer, confirmed to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette late Tuesday night that Taylor, the former middleweight champion from Little Rock, will fight Englishman Carl Froch (24-0, 19 KOs) for the World Boxing Council super middleweight title on either April 18 or April 25. A site has not been determined, although it will definitely be in the United States. The fight will be televised on Showtime.

Froch won the world title vacated by Joe Calzaghe with a unanimous decision over Jean Pascal on Dec. 6. Taylor (28-2-1, 17 KOs) earned this title shot with a decisive victory over Jeff Lacy on Nov. 15.

Although Team Taylor discussed several opponents, including Pascal, Allan Green and even Bernard Hopkins, in the end, Froch, because of the accessory he carries, was the most attractive option. The fight was made after a lengthy negotiation process.

“It’s for the belt,” Nelson said. “Jermain can get his belt back, and it will keep him hungry. He had the belt, and he lost it. He’s hungry again. Jermain wants to be champion. He said any way possible, make it happen.”

Taylor won the middleweight world championship in July 2005 with a victory over Hopkins and held the title until getting knocked out by current middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik on Sept. 29, 2007.

The buildup for the Taylor-Froch fight already has a touch of animosity.

Froch posted a note on his official Web site, www.cobraboxing.com, titled “I will smoke Taylor’s boots” that included several disparaging remarks. And Froch and his promoter, Mick Hennessy, have made several comments to British newspapers indicating their belief that Taylor was trying to avoid Froch.

“Carl Froch talked all that trash; that makes it even more important to beat him,” Nelson said. “We’re probably going to need some good security when they first meet.”

Boring compaired to Calzaghe? Watching people trying to KO the best fighters they can get in the ring with is so tyersome I'd much rather watch someone fight Mario Viet twice and then a couple of old men slapping his way to a decision!

Calzaghe was not a boring boxer in the slightest. If you want to talk routine fights, then talk about Froch's fights against Charles Adamu, Dale Westerman, Ruben Groenwald, Matthew Barney, Mark Woolnough, Alan Page, Vage Kocharyan or Henry Porras. Froch needs to be motivated to box well, just the same as Calzaghe did. Sometimes if Carl didn't get the early KO against an average opponent, he could look very one-paced. It was a brilliant finish against Magee, but that was a close fight until then.

At least he had the balls to fight Magee, unlike Joe, who (allegedly) on the morning of the fight - decided (allegedly) to cancel the fight (see (allegedly) frank warrens column after his falling out with Joe). (allegedly).
