Well it's clear something was amiss with those wraps. I'm still confused to exactly what was in there, were the pads over the knuckle part of the wrap?
The pads may well have been to protect the knuckles, and the white substance could have been an adhesive, I'd like to see a picture of these wraps.

I agree, very poor excuse that doesnt hold water. There will have to be tighter controls in the future.

In the US each state athletic commission has to agree to the ruling to prevent Margarito from fighting there.
I have the news story on the end of the Resto fight and it states that Lewis didn't have his licence revoked in all states, so was allowed to continue. But he chose to be an advisor. However, that may have changed as the news story was from 1986.

Been suspended for a year:

However, as the final judgement of what the material was won't be for a while I find it odd they suspended him for that long.

Margarito can't fight anywhere in the United States. However, there's talk of him fighting in Mexico.
The CSAC decision means that Margarito, an American-born fighter who lives in Mexico, is precluded from fighting anywhere in the United States, as other states follow Athletic Commission suspensions under US federal law.

Capetillo said he accidentally put the wrong inserts into his fighter's hand wraps, reaching for the wrong pads in his equipment bag. "I committed a big mistake," Capetillo told the panel and the standing-room only crowd. "I don't want this young man [Margarito] to have problems. I'm here to cover any responsibility. I take full responsibility. I committed this innocent mistake."
No way was that a mistake.

They know that he used an illegal substance in his hands wraps and they believe that Margarito and his trainer were both to blame. That's the 1 year suspension. The results we should hear in mid-March are to determine the severity of the wrong-doing. At least, that's my understanding of it.

Trainer was Panama Lewis and the fighter Luis Resto as someone said earlier I think. Just read about it in the book 'Four Kings' as it was on the undercard of Duran v Davey Moore. Trainer did a year's bird and the fighter 2 and a half. Both had their licences revoked for life, but Panama still works as a boxing advisor apparently.
Wonder if he's ever worked with Margarito

It is hard to ban someone from the sport of boxing
Straying off the point slightly , I have the book four kings haven't read it yet is it a worthwhile read?[/quote]
Yeah I'd say so.
It's one of those books that's easy to return to - so I had it next to my throne for a few weeks. Kept getting pins and needles in my legs from reading just that little bit too long though, which I suppose is a good indication of how good the book is
It's a decent factual account of all the Four Kings meetings and has lots of good expert comment and anecdotes about the fights. As someone who is too young to have been aware of it all at the time, it was interesting to read about who was favourite going into some of the bouts and some of the purses etc

FK is the best boxing book I've ever read. And I've read a few.

I can see why, techincally it shouldn't - but he is always going to known as the cheater. In a similar way some people have tainted RJJ and Shane Mosley and discredited all their wins.

And there will always be the suspicion his gloves were loaded in the Cotto fight

Yes, although as I said in another post - this CAN and SHOULD be checked in advance. Unlike drugs, it really shouldn't be something you can disguise. If they were loaded, then Cotto's corner didn't do a very good job.
Although, yes I can see where you are coming from and I do agree there will always be that "he's a cheat" element to him and for ever more.

They wouldn't have tried to do it for the Mosely fight if they thought they would get caught, unfortunately these things don't tend to be checked that rigourously
