Cotto v Jennings - Live on Setanta.
Re: Cotto v Jennings - Live on Setanta.
Great news! Apart from the fact I can only get Setanta 1 through my freeview package!
Re: Cotto v Jennings - Live on Setanta.
Oh great, this is on Setanta 2 which means I'm paying my £10.99 per month for setanta on freeview to NOT be able to watch it. Cheers setanta, cancellation coming soon!
Re: Cotto v Jennings - Live on Setanta.
Exactly the same for me Don1. I've been waiting for this announcement for what seems like a lifetime only to find that I still can't view it because I don't have Sky! The reason I got Setanta Freeview and ditched Sky was because of the better Boxing coverage and I can't afford both!
Re: Cotto v Jennings - Live on Setanta.
Frustrating ain't it? What I don't get is why is this on Setanta 2 and a repeat of a rugby match on at Setanta 1 at the same time? I could understand it if they were showing UFC live on Setanta 1 at the same time or something, but this makes no sense.DaveyH wrote:Exactly the same for me Don1. Surely Setanta would realise more people will want to watch live word title boxing that a repeat of a rugby game, I just don't get why its on 2 not 1 - answers please?
Re: Cotto v Jennings - Live on Setanta.
p.s. I have just e-mailed them saying unless the fights are switched to Setanta 1 or I am refunded for this month's viewing I will cancel my subs...probably be a good idea for all freeviewers to do the same then they may do something about it. I only got setanta for the boxing...now I can't watch what I'm paying for! If I wanted to watch a repeat of the fights then I could do that for nowt on youtube.
Re: Cotto v Jennings - Live on Setanta.
For some bizarre reason I could never record from Setanta 2 - I had a non sky plus sky digital and a seperate HDD/DVD recorder. First test to see if it will work now that I have Sky plus. See if it will work when I play back on Sky plus.

I'm going to have £10 each way on Cotto.

Whilst everyone is busy congratulating Setanta, they fail to see that allegedly's Sports Network were partly responsible for this excellent news

Mr W arren might be a good promoter but he is also very adapt at when to play the right card!!!

Its James from Setanta.
Setanta Sports and Sports Network are delighted to announce that they have agreed terms to broadcast the much anticipated WBO Welterweight title fight between Miguel Cotto and Michael Jennings The fight will be televised live on Setanta Sports on Saturday February 21st 2009.
This title fight is one of the most anticipated in recent years and pits one of the best all round pound for pound fighters in Cotto against the experienced English fighter, Jennings, as they both go into the fight with only one loss each. Cotto, however, remains undefeated at The Garden, where he has already beaten Paulie Malignaggi, Zab Judah and "Sugar" Shane Mosley.
Please check Setanta TV Listings for Touch Gloves times. http://www.setanta.com
Nice one!
And anyone who complains should calm down, its an interesting fight and I am staying up for it!
Pity it's on Setanta 2 but better that than not at all!

I will state again - its bloody brilliant that yet more boxing is on our screens - fantastic and I am serious when I say every boxing fan should applaud it ..
But ...
do you really belive Jennings has any chance whatsoever in the fight?
For me its one of the biggest mismatches ever!!!

He is a good foighter and we do not know how muc Cotto has left.
Jennings os more deserving than a lot of the 'World title' challengers served u in the US and Germany.
Gwann, Jennings -do your ting!
Win lose or draw he will give his all - and I would rather this than Friday effing Fight nights on Sky!
Re: Cotto v Jennings - Live on Setanta.
I think Jennings justifies his shot more so than Gary Locket (although I don't think he has justified it at all also).Spud wrote:DG

There's been some stinking mismatches out there - Macrinelli vs Gunn, Karmizin vs Walker, Calzaghe vs... cue many fighters here. But yes, on paper it looks a mismatch... although probably the best time for Jennings to fight Cotto.
Clarke vs Vargas was the biggest mismatch ever (on paper), but fair do's to Claka he did okay... and it was great that Vargas would often mention in him ahead of other fights.

Do I b*llocks think Jennings deserves the chance - I mean what fight has he fought in to suggest to anyone that he stands a chance against one of the pound 4 pound best fighters in the world?DG. wrote: Do you not think Jennings should get the opportunity?

Just pull his record up and that tells you he doesnt even deserve a European title shot.
But for the money I will now contradict myself and state I am glad the lad has got his chance because any boxer in this country who gets the chance to earn a few quid gets a round of applause from me.
But its yet again one of those hearts ruling the head !!!
Jennings dos not deserve his chance and will get beaten badly in my view - lets hope the ref steps in quick.
On the other hand Michael Jennings is a top man and a bave lad and as a brit I hope he pulls the biggest shock off in British Boxing because in my view thats how much chance I give him.

Did Clinton deserves all those title shots? Did Clinton deserve the draw ahaist Johnson?
Jennings has been the mandatory for several years I think.
Jennings has won handily against 99% of his opponents and Cotto has looked shaky at times - who really knows how good THIS version of Jennngs will be.
If Jennings were a FIGHT ACADEMY fighter you would be singing from the effin rooftops.
You are as bad as Fwank!

Clinton got his shots by winning the British, Commonwealth and European titles - then he got his shots against Johnson and at the time there was no one better than Clinton who wanted to fight for the IBF Light Heavyweight Title - in addition he has proved himself to be a world title contender in his performances against far superior opposition than Jennings has ever fought - seriously just get hold of Jennings record and tell me which fighter he has fought against that he derves his shot???
Last fight - Jason Rushton in a 8 rounder - one in which he only won by 3 points.
or was it his previous fight to that one against George Ungazide in another 8 rounder.
or was it the previous fight to that against Ross Minter who lost in the domestic "prizfighter" competition.
I seriously do not want to disrespect any of the above mentioned fighters but they are hardly even worthy of sparring Cotto let alone beating them and justifying bragging rights to fight Cotto who I will state again is one of the best fighters in the world.
As for your digs about Fight Academy and myself what relevance - keep to the subject of the thread and tell me how I am wrong and please tell me how Michael Jennings justifies the fight against Cotto because he clearly does not and its clearly a mismatch.

Re: Cotto v Jennings - Live on Setanta.
Jennings will probably get a beating, he had potential but lack of opponents beyond British level will make this a worse mistmatch.
His opposition quality dropped when he lost his British title and gained the WBU too.
Shame he can't bang as Cotto has a shaky jaw a bit.

Spud,
The gulf between Karmazin and WALKER was great - did you not say Walker could win?
That was a no hoe fight if ever there was one!
If Jennings was a FA fighter you would trumpet it - its relavant to YOUR COMMENTS and Jennings is miles better than Walker and Cotto is better than a peak Karmazin.
Jennings is a cut above domestic level based on how he has dealt with them and he deserves a shot more than a lot of guys out there.

Great that they are finally showing the fight. I too am a Freeview customer so won't b able to watch it live!!!
I have emailed Setanta though with a suggestion that they should give temporary Setanta Broadband access to Freeview customers, so that they can watch what they have paid their subscriptions for!!!

Anyone know what time Cott v Jennings touch gloves? (UK Time)

Whatever the promotional issues I would like to think that if Jennings puts on a good show that he will get the lions share of the Setanta money (and not his promoter)Spud wrote:That is where you are wrong.steve689 wrote:Whilst everyone is busy congratulating Setanta, they fail to see that allegedly allegedly allegedly's Sports Network were partly responsible for this excellent newsSo in the spirit of fair play, please join me:
