Fair play to the French lad. Doesn't have a great record but he came and toughed it out and executed his gameplan.

Wouldn't mind seeing him in with Murray, Khan etc.

Had the French dude ahead by 2 points, Thaxton gassed and can only rely on his punch thee days. His punches are stiff too.

Good fight though.

Would you have made it out of the 1st round without spitting?

Not happy with that decision. 10-7 in first round and the oppo wins on one card by three rounds!!! Thaxton was not great but closer than that.

Also something has to be done about spitting out the gumshield so blatently. It changes results (Corrales v Castillo anyone??)

Another thing, the extra point taken off actually gave the Frenchman more time to recover.

Can that not be done at the end of the round on such occasions

I've Sky+'d the Warren bill so I'm off to whizz through that now. I'm expecting 3 medal winners from the Olympics against 3 fighters who are variously fat/ unfit/ underweight or all three. This will be followed by Skelton beating up the ""PRIZEFIGHTER"" ""CHAMPION"" Rogan. I'm not sure why I'm bothering but I am :geek:

Well said!!!

The guy out and out cheated and gained another 30 seconds...

Tell Hagler00Zero the deal.

Cheating yes but nowhere near as bad as Chico against Castillo. But then Castillo not even trying to come in at weight in the second fight wasn't much better.

I think Thaxton is overloading on his punches.

He's gone the same way as Witter, just throwing big punches and hoping for the KO.

You have a point, where is the jab and working your way in and making openings?

Shocking!

Brilliant fight - but I had the french lad winning it.

Jono is a top man a took the loss well as he could and spoke well.

Next fight - John Murray!!!

I had it 113/113, and have no problem with the French guy getting the decision. I mean can anyone actually believe that he would last six rounds after that first round, nevermind actually win the fight? Amazing performance by him.

I thought Mezaache won but it was very close. Talk of Pacquiao, Marquez and Valero at the beginning by Rawling :o Put sharply into context by the final bell. Maybe he can get a rematch crack at the belt?

I thought Thaxton peaked last time with Melero. Jono always struggles in the routine defences, so maybe we could have seen this coming.

He probably should have had a 1st rd KO but the guy spat the gumshield etc. Still, with a 3 point lead in round one, Thaxton should have been able to win. But Thaxton appeared to lose many, many consecutive rounds.

Let's have Murray v Mezaache.

Just curious, can a ref DQ a fighter if he thinks they spat the gumshield out on purpose ?

Good question this. :TU:

Per the EBU rules he can't
22.1.4 Gumshield. It is recommended that the gumshield ( the wearing of which is compulsory) is made by a qualified dentist and that both boxers have a second gumshield in their respective corners during the contest. If the gumshield falls from a Boxer mouth during a round it will be replaced at a moment decided by the Referee. Should the boxer spit out his gumshield intentionally he shall be warned by the Referee and if he repeats the act he shall have a point deducted.
But what is the ideal moment to replace it?

It's normally a natural lull in the action but could the ref have made the fight continue without the gumshield? It would have been dangerous, but then again the bloke did spit it out to get more time.

Just a warning for spitting it out on purpose, thats quite suprising, alot of boxers could really use this rule to there own benefit.
