If there is a Super Champion he is the ONLY Champion of the organisation.
But - Dunne is a belt holder...
We can not deny him that.

He's not a world champ. But he has his foot in the door. Television, and the paying Irish fans won't care much about the difference between the regular and super WBA champs. Not after a thrilling stoppage of a solid world class fighter like Cordoba.
If he has to fight this Poonsawat, this is a credible defence of the title and a more winnable fight than Cordoba. I know Poon was a little bantam, so Dunne can milk his title a bit and then cement his position a bit in the WBA.
To be a proper world champion, he'd have to beat Caballero, the super WBA champ. Some top fighters have gone from regular champ to being a proper champ, like Kessler (when Ottke was WBA/IBF 168 champ) and Chris John (Marquez). Will they wait til CC looks past it, and give him an Irish payday? Or can they get away with it with or without Caballero?

Being a world champion doesn't mean what it used to anyway. Whoever is the best in the division is the world champ (belt or not), the other guy's are just holding titles that don't mean much.

You're right.
I'll say this, though...
Dunne is more of a world champion than Enzo Maccarinelli was...and Nicky Cook...Gavin Rees?...Junior Witter?
Let's face it, they're all just a string of letters. It's not what you win at the end of the fight, it's who you beat. Whether a champion or not, Dunne beat a very good top-tier fighter last night. He deserves nothing but praise for that.

good point. knocking out cordoba for half a title is as hard an achievment, IMO, as haye knocking out mormeck for unified/lineal titles. he's just in the hardest division right now.
perhaps the big boys will all move up to featherweight, then dunne will get wider recognition outside ireland.

he may not be the real champion of the wba but i he is 1 hell of a fighter and munroe should be his 1st defence . i cant wait to see what he dos to do the bin man . were is all the dunne haters now . i thought so . not a fuckin word . by the way dunne will have to fight cabballero whithin 12 months and this is a fight that he has a very good chance of winning after last night

Dunne v Cordoba was really just an eliminator, that's all.
The WBA are thieves and don't give a shit about the credibility of boxing. The just want the sanctioning fee.
Thailand's Poonsawat Kratingdaengym won an eliminator against Somsak Sithchatchawal (former WBA champ) last year to earn the mandatory position to Cabellero (who took the belt off Somsak).
Then the WBA invented a bullshit interim title and super title to favour Cordoba while Poonsawat was frozen out.
What do mandatory positions mean any more? Nothing it seems.
When Cordoba was given the fake WBA belt, the WBA said Poonsawat could contest the ''vacant interim'' belt in Thailand but his management told them to fk off.
Dunne has a good win on his record but he is not a champion.....seeing as this is a board for knowledgable fans then hopefully no-one will refer to him as such.
Where was this post about Ricardo Cordoba before Dunne took his title from him. Bernard Dunne is a world champion and you are a dickhead of the highest order!

Cballero would probably love to get a payday and beat up Dunne in front of his home fans. Cab has made a career of doing this.
do Dunne and Caballero have to meet or can they both go on defendig their versions of same title?
I think Dunne is enough of a draw, and exciting enough, for American TV to pick the fight up.

this is the whole problem with the super and interim and fake WBA title....none of the holders have to go anywhere near each other and the mandatory slot is rendered absolutely meaningless.
why would cabellero fight dunne? dunne isn't a name....im sure caballero will want a much bigger fight than dunne.

How big is Dunne's stateside following now? I know he was headlining ESPN shows back when he was boxing for SRL, but I do wonder if his move back to Ireland was because he couldn't shift the tickets in the states.
If that is the case, then Munroe might be the best option for him. Its a fight I've championed and wanted to see for a long time.

It could not have been that big a following or he would still be there.I think.
Lets have Munroe Vs Dunne for the UK.

Careful there, Dunne and the majority of his fans aren't actually from the UK.
However I know what you meant(Ireland and Britain) and considering the elated mood I'm in we'll let you off
I'd love to see the fight aswell, would be a huge fight and probably a good fight too.
Not disputing where it has to take place now though.

Some good points on here.
Do you WBA have a rule that regular champ has to eventually fight super champ?
Dunne is star material, has a good home following. Might be worth it for Caballero to take a fight like that, if there's a good payday in it for him. IMO he has traveled for harder fights than this.
Dunne got a massive result. Amazing fight. While not champ proper, he's certainly achieved something at a good world level. And you never know, this may set something bigger up (or maybe not, maybe he'll get away with plenty).

Dunne needs Munroe! Not even beaten the best in Europe, how can he call himself a world champ? (LOL)
Hatton needs Witter!
Khan needs Murray!
these fights never happen, let's drop it.

He is a world champion, end of you sad people
I fancied Cordoba and wanted Cordoba to win but like people have said on here why didnt you bring this to our attention before the fight, I hate aftertiming :( #
Would love to see Caballero v Dunne and Munroe v Dunne, both would be good fights. Caballero would beat Dunne in my opinion but I think if he fought Munroe it would very similar to the Cordoba fight, which would be great

hmmm imagine if the WBA offered Munroe the chance to fight for the ''vacant interim'' in England against an opponent of his choosing.....i wonder what the Dunne fans would make of that?

Maloney and Munroe must be smarting after saying this is all a Brian Peters show and that Dunne was only a challenger, blah, blah.
I do preffer Rendall Munroe as a fighter to Dunne but I've seen Bernard's last couple of fights and he's impressed me so much, he showed great determination and fight to pick himself back up twice and win the fight, he showed that he has the heart of a champion.
I dont think Dunne will go out and chase big names in his first few defences, as already mentioned a couple of European names most probably. The interesting thing is will Dunne do a Cordoba and defend his title away from home?

Apparently this logic only applies to dunne and this thread is ridiculous and pointless as the OP made this statement in the other dunne thread and nobody listened to him there. At long last somebody from this side of the world takes a chance against one of the top guys in his division and pulls out a tough win, apparently this is not good enough for some people and they are so sad they need to pick holes in it.
OP needs to get a life.

it is good enough. Dunne did great. However, there is an even tougher opponent out there, who holds the SAME TITLE as Dunne - Caballero. Hence the dispute.

It's not interesting and it won't happen. Cordoba came to Ireland because of €200,000(Dunne got €76,000 for anyone interested), the money for the fight was in Ireland and the money for Dunne fights will always be in Ireland.
Dunne has shown he's willing to travel in the past(14 fights in America, one in Germany, one in Italy), but there would be no point in him fighting anywhere outside Ireland bar possibly America, and I don't think that'll happen either. It makes sense that Dunne fights are where they make the most money, in Dublin.

I hope Peters tells you to go to hell, if Munroe wants a world title, let him go out and get it.
You more or less said that if Dunne loses that you won't give him a European title shot and now that Dunne is world champion it's all "let's get it on"! Dunne does not need Munroe, he never has. I think it's time you stopped using Dunne to get publicity for your fighter cos let's face it that's what's been going on these last few months.
I don't think I have read an article about Munroe without Dunne's name being mentioned.
Whoever was wondering why Dunne left the US, it is because Sugar Ray Leonards Promotion Company folded so Dunne decided to come home and revitalise the Irish boxing scene, which he certainly has done!!!
