Who is he talking about? Snipes? The guy who Holmes TKO'd and won every round against except one and who Page earned a relatively close decision against? Other than that, the record is full of guys Snipes lost to and Holmes beat . . but I suppose Larry was ducking the immortal Mark Wills.

I think BRR is just a guy who likes a controversial idea eg Holmes was a fraud and by extension anyone who thinks he isn't a fraud is an idiot.

He then runs with it regardless of facts. Just repeats it ad nauseum and thinks he is 'winning' a debate.

He's just the latest in a long line of uncouth bigots who discover this place and are rapt they have found a soapbox to peddle their crazy ideas.

I quite like watching Page and I'd love to have seen Holmes fight him. If the best Page turned up it would have been a good scrap. But Greg was the epitome of inconsistency and that is why he never got ino a position where the public saw him as a man Holmes was ducking. The fact that BRR would have us believe otherwise just proves to me that BRR wasn't following boxing at the time nor has he done any proper research into the era.

But, hey, BRR does provide some light entertainment on a quiet day in here.

I do. But I think, had Norton won and gave Holmes a rematch, Holmes would have won going away. It was Norton's last great effort. I don't think Kenny had anything left after that.

- Dearest silly boy, I do nothing but provide facts and context to bolster my conclusions.

It is you with teensy itty bitty trivia points when you aren't banging away at your empty bin to make noise that is lacking in research.

I had no reason to dislike Mr. Larry, but I kept wondering why he wasn't calling out the other champs. From Norton to Spinks he won 20 title fights, yet there were 13 other title fights being contested against 6 champs he never met, 7 fighters total in the 13 title fights he never met.

Moreover, greatly improved more mature versions of Weaver and Spoon featured in these classics. And a couple more who won shares later who were also ranked.

And of course, Dwayne Bobbit who never got a title shot in spite of running up a 35-0 or so record against better comp than Mr. Larry fought prior to his title shot. Of course Mr. Bobbit knocked out Mr. Larry in the Olympic trials, so we can kind of forgive him for that trangression since he never remembered a thing about his bad luck.

Holmes's two best wins pre-title shot: Roy Tiger Williams and Earnie Shavers

Bobick's two best wins: Larry Middleton and a 6-5 Mike Weaver.

Hmmmmm

Hardly trivia points.

You stated Page had no problem beating guys who Holmes struggled with.

I pointed out that rather than beating Witherspoon, the man who gave peak Larry the most trouble, Page actually lost to him.

That kind of blew your weak arguement out of the water. It made you look a complete dork. :D

Not surprising you didn't respond to that. I mean, what could you say? You are hardly gonna admit you don't have a fekkin clue, are you?

Keep acting like a numpty. Actually it aint an act is it? You really are a know-nothing blowhard who is treated like a joke in here.

:KO:

PS Bobick beat Holmes by DQ in the amateurs not KO. But facts aren't your strong points. Waffle and innuendo is your game. That and rolling in the mud.

- My silly little boy, Bobick not only dropped Mr. Larry stupid, but he knocked all the fight out of him as well. Mr. Larry was warned repeatedly for holding by the ref every time he broke them after the KD. Shortly afterwards, the ref was forced to DQ Mr. Larry's dreams of Olympic gold after all the fight had been knocked out of him. Flatlined the fistic charts Mr. Larry did.

We in the know don't worry about little silly boy details when the particulars know exactly what transpired. The KO was so devastating that it STFU out of Ali who had been vigorously tooting Mr. Larry's horn to Cosell prior.

Ah, you looked it up at last. Good work, twat. At this rate you'll be qualified to talk about Holmes with us real fans in about 3 years. Until then keep posting shite and we'll keep helping you out with the facts, you funny little man.

- Shame, shame, shame. Your mummy doesn't allow you to use naughty words dear colly and will be restricting your internet access.

Broughton to the rescue. Just show her the footage of Mr. Larry getting blasted to bits as Ali prattles on about how Mr. Larry is the 2nd coming of The Greatest hisself. There is a ghastly silence as it sinks in to the viewers that they've just witnessed an unprecedented double KO by The Great Bobick.

Mummy will forgive all and the Lore of Boxing Legend will only grow in scope.

Collins, where is your sense of respect for thoughtful prudent and articulate contributors? Just because one does not use empirical evidence, or bench mark standards of logic to formulate their opinion does not mean they should not be given full credit and respect for their conclusions.

Some gifted analysts will intuit their way to assumptions and convictions, that in their minds, trump manifest details even if said details are in coherent combination with observed and/or recorded actualities.

Did you fail to take this into account when you contributed your expression of harsh judgement?

It appears to this observer, that this is exactly what has take place.

You're right Bobby.

Why should I expect BRR to let facts get in the way of a good fantasy.

I mean, this is the fellow who told us, with a straight face, that Jack Dempsey fought Jack Johnson in a secret bout in Canada.

Oh yes. Presented as irefutable evidence too.

I expect his mam and dad have prepared an easter egg hunt for the little fellow this weekend. He'll be scampering around in his Ben Ten pyjamas looking for all the presents the easter bunny has left for him.

I love youthful innocence. It's a good thing.

I had Witherspoon winning by a couple of points. Not a robbery per se, but it is unusual how little attention this controversial decision gets as opposed to other fights. Holmes was 33, he was in shape, he was by no means a shot fighter, while Witherspoon had only 15 fights going into the match.

The Williams fight was worse. Neither fighter received a rematch.
