I thought we were talking about flyweights and bantamweights.

He could not beat Arnold Taylor or Sully Shittu. A good fighter yes, but not a World Champion.

Ferreri not quite good enough to win a world title when there were only 2 around but certainly world class.

And he'd pick up a few straps in this day and age. No problem.

As would Hector Thompson another guy somewhat forgotten today.

Nobody who saw Hector fight would forget him. He lasted longer against Duran in a World Lightweight Title challenge than most.

True, Brute. Perhaps we are showing our age.

Australia has a rich boxing history with much that could be discussed. But in here we seem to be mired in endless Mundine 'debates'.

Shame Troy was badly managed. Family and boxing do not mix.

I agree wholeheartedly. He could have been feather champ for 5-6 years, instead he went after titles yet Jeff, as good as we know he was only ever held a portion of a title.... Big mistake on his part IMO. FK even Mundine held a part of a title. They are meaningless until you unify them....In most instances.

In the late 80's all he had to do was fight Antonio Esparragosa (he would have beaten him albeit not easily) and the boxing world would have known who the division's ruler was (I can't even remember now, who the IBF titleholders were during those days). The mags of the day were starting to talk about the matchup and so were hardcore boxing fans, so why it never happened is beyond me. Fenech brought the money to the table so Esparragosa would have made good money although he would have had to fight down here. At the time I like many others got carried away with the Fenech thing and only in hindsight is it obvious he was going for the titles and not much else. The reality is that this sort of crap only serves to take away from from boxing is supposed to be about

But hey, Mayweather, DLH etc won more titles than Ray Robinson and therefore should be seen as the more accomplished fighters

i think holding titles in different weight classes was a trend back when sugar ray leonard beat donnie lalonde for the light heavyweight title and the new super middle division was made may have been the reason fenech at that time joining with king might have jumped on the wagon to try and beat leonards record and get recognition in the U.S.
who knows .but i know one thing if fenech stayed at bantam he would still be champ.
as for holding titles in different weight classes no one will beat armstrongs record. of holding them at the same time.

now back to the topic if anyone thinks whitaker would have outpointed fenech in his prime i have no problem with that everybody is entitled to their own opinion and after fenech got robbed in nelson 1 he wasn't the same so there's no way i can prove it either.
