i disagree hes 20 its his 5th fight 5kos and reasonable opponents in front of him.Yes i was disapointed the ellis fight didnt go longer but thats not furys fault, he s got agreat jab, good movement and hes fighting every 6 weeks or so, hes a refreshing change ...too early to say how far he will go but hes followed his words with actions so far at least

I think its a joke that people are ripping on Fury for fighting Matthew Ellis when 99.9% of boxers are fighting guys who are like 2-11 or 1-5 in their fifth fight. Sure his opponents have been a little small but next to him everyone is small, and they have far more experience then the bums the other upcoming prospects are fighting, who usually tend to be undersized as well. Its to early to draw conclusions on Furys potential, but at this point in his career he is moving along nicely and is making more noise than any another up and comer in the UK.

How about Scott Belshaw? Both same size, would be a decent match up.

Matthew Ellis on paper was a credible opponent no question, but in reality it was a bottle job, how many punches did Ellis throw..... none!!
Tyson did what he is paid to do so isnt his fault, i believe Ellis was intimidated and gave up before the fight started.
Am i the onlt person thinking that??

Actually, if he really wanted to make a splash and cause headlines against a guy he could beat...
Faruq Saleem. Heavily inflated record of 38-0 but has not fought a single live body in his entire career. Is 35 now and only fought once in 2008 after an over year long break where Sedreck Fields pushed him to a close MD over 6. Melvin Foster floored him and almost beat him way back in 2001. Career seems to be winding down, so he might at last put that 0 on the line if the money is right.

To be fair I know this is what all boxers do in their few first fights BUT don't be mistaken. There are many boxers that take on serious opposition quite early on especially if they think they have potential. Best example I can give is Taras Bidenko. In his 4th fight he fought Valuev who was already like 28-0-0.

Fury just needs to get ride of the love handles and he will be ok.

I am pretty sure it was his manager John Hyland who came out with that now legendary 'billion dollar athlete' line. I know Barry isnt afraid to hype a fighter when he needs but spouting that amount of bollocks would make even a promoter of Hearn's standing blush!

Ellis was a disgrace - but not Fury's fault.
Ellis should lose his licence. If that was a Russian, the Board would have nicked half his purse and banned him from coming back.

Agreed after watching clips of tysons early fights he really was fighting bums, fury is still to me an unknown quantity he is huge but im not sure about being explosive im sure things will soon become clear. Good on hennesy for moving him along quickly.
Tysons oul fella was dressed like brad pitt in snatch. I didnt actually think travellers dressed like that
"Bums" I take it you no nothing about boxing. How can you call any boxer a bum let alone Lee Swaby.. I just hope you bump into Lee somewhere on your travels and then have the guts to call him a bum, you BELL END....
I was referring to mike tyson , maybe i shouldnt call them bums but they were only there to be knocked out.

Records don`t mean that much to me. They can be manipulatedto suit ends. Take the guy fighting last night against Lenny Daws. He had 13 losses on his record but was hard as nailsand game as hell. It`s all about who you have been in with, not what your record is. Take Ellis, the truth is that despite his record, he simply cannot mix it with decent opposition.

Ya but people are knocking Fury for who he is fighting and he's only got 5 bouts! To me that is premature and given who he has fought not justified.
Even if Ellis can't mix it up with decent opposition he still has what it takes to beat bums like Luke Simpkin and Chris Woollas, and it's those types of fighters that are being fed to the majority of the up and comers. Swaby was the first guy to take German knockout artist and Olympic medalist Sebastian Kober the distance in his 11th fight. I can guarantee you no other club fighter that is being fed to the novice Americans could do that. Compare his first five opponents to the likes of other amateur standouts Danny Jacobs, Demetrius Andrade, Deyonte Wilder, Matt Koroboc, Bastie Samir etc
His opponents aren't of a high class (what do you expect in five fights?), but they are a level above the other sacrificial lambs being fed to most prospects, which represents good progress in my view.

He is fighting regularly & is willing to mix it with anyone. I find him good to watch at the minute and feel he will only get better as he progresses. He has fast hands and size, he needs to improve in many areas but is going about it in the right fashion.
Certain promoters would be protecting him far more than Mick is!!!!
How can you protect someone more than chuck him in with a guy with no arms and who's four stone lighter than you ?

We as boxing anoraks should not be deceived by records
Couple of years ago if Khan had fought a well prepared Emmanuel Augustus the average casual fight fan would think he was fighting a bum. We would know different, at least I hope we would

I think wendxx's post is very refreshing. Most people who are not as knowledgeable about the Sport can at least see through the charade of dead bodies being lined up to pad records.
It is Tyson's fifth fight and i believe so far he has been well matched but i don't think we should all be having a go at somebody just for having an opinion.
Getting on to Ellis, he was a disgrace last night and he did bottle it. Fury hit him with almost every shot he through and Matthew seemed to be aiming his head into Tyson's gloves.
Hennessey's shows have been very impressive so far though and I'm sure the majority of us would prefer to see these mostly competitive fights rather than the Circus of a Warren event.

Give the kid a break ffs. Fury is a baby at heavyweight, serving his apprenticship and doing everything asked of him. He needs to patiently work his way up the domestic rankings because he has got at least a DECADE before he reaches his peak!
Realistically though he could turn out to be an early peaker - who knows - only time will tell. plus he won't be peaking in his mid thirties if he has had 50+ fights!
The big danger is that Fury does an Audley and faces way too much scrutiny because his learning fights have come under too much public scrutiny and this can prove counterproductive because he could face pressure to step up too quickly or have the public turn off him through lack of patience in the learning process.
I'd like to see Tyson Fury have at least 15 more learning fights over the next 2 years before he even thinks of stepping up to the domestic title plate then take the traditional route of British/ European - Commonwealth then an assault on the World scene - as long as he succeeds and proves himself at each stage of the way through a few meaningful defences.
Not much pressure there then Tyson!

I think with Fury, the "parade of dead bodies" is more visible because every fight of his is being shown on TV and because they're hyping him up with ITV mini-docu segments that could be used to hype up more worthy fighters.
Most fighters, you don't get to see their 1st 5 fights unless they're an amateur medallist of some sort.
The gypsy bone breaker fighting family stuff, the fact that he's a giant, that he's a white heavyweight, it's all got ppl watching. He has the right image, but when it comes down to it, can he fight? He does seem willing.
Good that he's staying busy and fighting opponents that we've heard of and throwing lots of hard shots. I'd like to see him in with some bigger blokes.

This is heavyweight boxing, Ellis weighed in as a HW!!!
It is not Fury's fault he has physical attributes that give him an advantage!
For fucks sake everyone Valuev fights is 2ft smaller & 10stone lighter!!!
Also i'd imagine a prime Mike Tyson would in your opinion be 'a guy with no arms & 4 stone lighter' than Fury!!!
This is heavyweight boxing mate!!!!

I could see my worries about Fury coming to fruition over the next couple of years
When I heard he was turning pro I said that he might be the next Roman Greenberg. What I meant by this is that because he is so young he is going to hit a wall soon enough because there will soon come a time when he is too good for a certain level but not quite there for the next level.
I wished he stayed amateur, but thats a mute point now
