He has a great love of the game and I am pleased he keeps himself in decent nick and does a lot in a tough community to influence kids in the right way.
None of you internet warriors would last ten seconds with this man. Nigel is a lovely guy who has taken his lumps and earned his spurs.
No one is claiming this fight was more than an exhibition between two veterans who were enjoying themselves, they certainly didn't do it because they needed the money

Nigel trained for this fight and lost a good bit of weight. We are not judging him as a current pro fighter here, as a man over 40 going 4 lively rounds it shows he is in decent nick
And Rafferty is still one double tough fella who most folk could only dream of living with

have to say through present padwork for fitness only (i only fought in martial arts comps) boxing in knackering and to be able to go 4 rounds at 40 plus is no mean feat.

I'm not disrespecting the guy at all, in fact I hung out with him before and after his 100th fight for a tribute piece he did and saw for myself that he's a good guy with a lot of friends.

I just don't like unlicensed boxing and if the BBBC pulled his licence, it will have been for a very legitimate reason. I know unlicensed boxing is a good alternative for those who want to box part-time or whatever, but if somebody has actually been refused a licence by the BBBC on medical grounds, I simply can't condone it - nice bloke or otherwise.

tubbs had good hand speed and was still giving people trouble into the mid 90's

tucker IMO was the best of the lot skills wise he just wasnt as big as some as his 80'sand 90's contemporarys i think of him as the chis byrd of the heavyweights before chris byrd IE:just because he was over 6 foot and weighed over 200" doesnt mean he has the frame for it really

You weren't being disrespectful at all, you can easily make a case against veterans fighting, esp in unlicensed bouts. My gripe is with the other bloke who has now taken all his posts down from the thread who waged quite a personal attack against Rafferty

Nigel Rafferty is a genuine nice guy, filmed many of his fights, if he wants to do exhibitions, let him, I think he still trains amateurs,

MY point is, Eric, if you had even the slightest semblance of boxing awareness (stick to your anyone-can-hold-it camera), is that the pre-Tyson heavies (Weaver, Witherspoon, Broad, Dokes, Bey, Bonecrusher, Tibbs, Berbick and seemingly a million other sleep-iniucing slobs whom were snorting cocaine and puppeted by Don King), had zero talent and wouldn't have contended at any other weight but heavyweight. Witherspoon is a two-time world heavyweight champion, for Christ's sake!

bennie with the greatest respect i think you greatly underplay the TALENT- if not the application and intangibles- of the 80s era

don't get me wrong i am a habitue of the line 'Tyson beat noone that wasn't fat and/ or coked off his tits', 'talentless tryers or talented wasters' etc.

i simply think to say Witherspoon, for one, had 'zero talent', is a massive stretch. the last I checked a good punch, chin, size and natural movement ability, plus tight defence, were considered talents in boxing, and to me Tim had all those things.
