Well yeah, it's still a world title fight in Manchester, you really think some casuals would care? Just because me and you think it's a joke situation, doesn't mean some well off casual doesn't fancy a night of boxing - I'm sure there's plenty of them.
It's all about the prices. Hearn said they were twice what the Last two Joshua fights were.
I know for a fact they were twice what Quigg v FrAmpton was as I went to that and had tickets for this.
I still think at reasonable prices this fight would have sold out. Most of 2nd tier was £120 or more. I remember searching Twitter at the time they went on sale and there were loads of complaints.
If there was big casual interest with those prices this fight the fight would have sold out early but there was every price range available before the fight was cancelled.
Like mickey said in the post above Hearn would have had no problems selling this show out but no way at the same prices.
The entire heavyweight division has been a joke this year.
I'm actually quite surprised that allegedly went along with those prices, thought he was a bit smarter than that. Or was this the Fury's demands? I remember when the whole Eubank debacle was going on. Hearn refused to raise the ticket prices from their model. The ticket prices would be the same as a Joshua fight, no excuses. It's bizarre that they think doubling prices than the rest of the market will be well received.
I wouldn't call winning 3 rowing golds 'dominating'.Sklar wrote:Blame the Russians? Have you seen how many medlas we've won? Unfortunately this is the world we are now living in, and success is commonly associated with cheating. We can to a certain degree thank the Russian Federation for that.
It's 9 weeks away so I can not see it. If an announcement isn't made by the end of next week zero chance it's that date ( if it even happens at all)MacTavish wrote:I'll be amazed if this fight happens on 29th October!
So this is where I get a little bit confused with the promoting of an event. Eddie Hearn and Matchroom (i.e. another promoter) organise the event, and things like ticket prices follow a model. I'm just shocked that Frank has no say over the tickets of an event he's promoting. This whole ordeal is only serving to damage his reputationchrisnew86 wrote:Rob3_142 wrote:Blimey - I didn't realise it was that bad.Naandrew wrote:

Mick Hennessey's show, F R A N K W just had the TV rights in the UK i.e. B O X N A T I O N . Fwank had nothing to do with ticket prices
But Frank isn't promoting it, Hennessey is promoting it.Rob3_142 wrote:So this is where I get a little bit confused with the promoting of an event. Ah so Frank is just the go between, between Hennessey and BN?Boxerbeetle wrote:But Frank isn't promoting it, Hennessey is promoting it.Rob3_142 wrote:So this is where I get a little bit confused with the promoting of an event. Well Frank effectively owns BN, but essentially yes that's correct.Rob3_142 wrote:Ah so Frank is just the go between, between Hennessey and BN?Boxerbeetle wrote:But Frank isn't promoting it, Hennessey is promoting it.Rob3_142 wrote:

Oldest medalist off the top of my head I'd guess Frankie Fredericks picked up a 200m medal towards the end of his career.jamesmcdonnell wrote:If he wins at this Olympics, there'd be one last thing to aim for I suppose, which is gold at one more Olympics which would put him far and away from any sprinter that ever lived. Who is the oldest sprint medalist - excluding 400, which I'm never sure whether it is classed as a sprint or not.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Rob3_142 wrote:
Well there's no doubt that the training is definitely different. But it's not easier. You still a great deal of strength endurance and lactate threshold to be effective at 200m. The decline in his level since 2009 is quite apparent, and I'd wager it's down to some degree to a lack of interest. He owns all the world records and has multiple Olympic and World golds. He's already surpassed Carl Lewis in the legendary standings, there's nothing else to prove. I get it.
I agree the media reports of chicken nugget diet is here nor there, but it's the overall attitude towards training as a whole. He is clearly a lot more mature now, whilst still playing up to the media, which suggests he's perhaps a bit more sensible. You'd wager that he's been quite unlucky with injuries, especially in the last few years. However, the reported 'injuries' he's been struggling with could be down to a few things. It could be to some degree down to a lack of strength and conditioning training through the winter (I can assure you this is essential to an athlete's season) which means he's either not fit enough to compete (the last thing you want to do is turn up to a diamond league race and finish 5th, and give your rivals some encouragement) or he's breaking down in training because he has not done sufficient conditioning work. Strength and conditioning is essential not in the sense that it'll make you run faster over 100m, but it gives you a solid base to train on. Means you can work harder for longer, and not break down. Train without it, and 4 weeks into training and you'll start to pick up niggles halting your progress.
I'm speculating obviously, he could just be very unlucky with the injuries, but there is a pattern emerging over the last 5 years. I can't remember the last time he competed in an early season meet.
Yes, I suspect you may be right there, although at 29 I'd be surprised if he was running the same times at 22, however, motivation is hard to maintain, as you say, when you have all the beans already, unlike some other athletes, who were incredibly single minded and obsessive, even when they'd been dominant for years, Bolt does seem to enjoy his life away from the track more than some.
He sustained an ankle injury in a car crash whilst awol from training as I recall, did that have any long term impact?
Could be any number of reasons for his injuries, they could be phsysiological in nature due to his frame, or as you say, to patchy training.
Personal best at 41!!! Definitely on the gear then.PredatorHayds wrote:Oldest medalist off the top of my head I'd guess Frankie Fredericks picked up a 200m medal towards the end of his career.jamesmcdonnell wrote:If he wins at this Olympics, there'd be one last thing to aim for I suppose, which is gold at one more Olympics which would put him far and away from any sprinter that ever lived. Also you've got Kim Collins who ran a 100m personal best this year at 41 but didn't medal.
Still nothing....Naandrew wrote:Still no announcement

How anyone still has tickets to this is beyond me.
I just can not see how this goes ahead in Manchester.
The annoying thing is that Hearn changed the AJ v Breazeale fight 'cause it 'clashed' with Fury's rematch with Klitchko. In fact he could have just kept the date and it clashed with squat all (in hindsight of course). Since then Joshua has fought Breazeale and has confirmed his next fight in a booked arena. Fury has got some nerve to post that comment when Klitchko is supposedly taking Fury to court over him trying to change the terms of a signed contract. Get a date agreed and people might start taking you serious.Naandrew wrote:Still nothing....Naandrew wrote:Still no announcement

Also noticed Tyson having a pop at Eddie for announcing the AJ fight date and venue being Manchester.
https://mobile.twitter.com/Tyson_Fury/s ... 4698919937.
It's a good move by Hearn announcing the venue whilst Hennesey etc are keeping silent.
People are more likely to go to AJ instead especially as there will confidence in the fight actually happening.
AJ will be sold outwhere as if Fury v Wlad 2 happens, with the same pricing structure as the first time the rematch was announced , they will be lucky to be a third full.
Sad really.
Why has this taken 6 months?Naandrew wrote:http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/boxing/ex ... on-9713468

The hearing was supposed to take place in November last year. That is why Tyson and Hughie had suspensions lifted to fight at the end of October
Interesting how this comes out when the purse bid for Hughie v Parker is this week. Also it doesn't mention Hughie at all.
This is about a different drug test they both failed, in early 2015mickey1975 wrote:I don't think Hughie was on the sniff with him.Naandrew wrote:Who knows ???? The whole thing is a mess and regardless what anyone thinks of the Furys this all shows UKAD are not fit for purpose.Boxerbeetle wrote:

The biggest issue with this whole case has been the notion that authorities were aware of a potential drug test fail prior to a fight. Worst case scenario and Klitschko ended up with permanent damage in the aftermath of a fight with a drug-fuelled Fury. What the hell happens then?mickey1975 wrote:That's bullshit. It's two years ago and Tyson has won the world title since. They've obviously got no case. Strangest carry on ever if they have.

Will be good to get some clarity out of the whole thing but I imagine the case may be that there were major failings in the testing process which allowed a drugged individual into a fight.
