Most boxers have to lie to themselves constantly - you can hardly blame them for talking themselves up. Gav McD could well win a belt in the next few years. I see him as World Title gatekeeper. Certainly don't have a problem with him calling himself 'world level'.

Vargas was far more fluent and relaxed from the off. Great movement and boxing on the back foot. Good selection of shots and mixed it up well. Gavin is a good little fighter and showed some real toughness in there. He didn't enjoy the same advantages over Vargas his brother does against most at Bantam. Good action though. Well don't to both guys.

Not seen the fight yet but IJL turning in another comedy show is as predictableas it gets on British cards. What does the guy need to do to get dropped by the bbboc?

Agreed. He just lost to a better fighter on the night. And has peoven that he can do the distance at World elite level.

Don't allow one bad card spoil what was a tough and entertaining battle. Gavin just wasn't allowed by Vargas to get started early enough, and after Gavin had a really good surge late on, Vargas clearly won the last round. In the last, Vargas was clearly glad to keep things on the outside. McDonnell was able to make his mark, forcing tough exchanges in the second half of the fight - and pelted his man with some really good right hands especially when Vargasmade the mistake of backing straight up. So I really don't like to see such words as "outclassed." And it was exciting because this spurred Vargas to land some really hurtful, looping right hands in response that showed how hard McDonnell's head really is. Some really good exchanges - over the second half - and a great advert for lighter weight championship fights. When McDonnell was able to land the left hook to the body I got the feeling Vargas didn't like it. He really needed to double it up, to body and head if he was going to make enough of an impact to win.

I was there, it was great value for money, both men knew they were in a fight. I scored it similar to Linares-Crolla, the home fighter down by about 3. I enjoyed it about as much as that fight and another bruising one between a Brit and a world ranked international fighter, Warrington v Amagasa. I only go to the good fights and last night's was one of them. Add this one to the list of gruelling McDonnell fights such as vs Leigh Wood and the two with Josh Wale.

Terrible undercard and arena. Think there were more people than seats. Tiny arena had only one level. Too many people in the walkway, takes half an hour to go for a piss and another half an hour to squeeze through the crowd and get back. Food facilities dire, one disgracefully rude and unprepared old lady selling hotdogs which weren't even ready until after about 8pm. There was some bar some where but you had to have a pass. No temporary bars like you'd get in better arenas. But the exciting and competitive main event definitely made this suffering worth it.

Usually but the WBC do what they want with mandatories. But I have noticed Hugo Ruiz is in at three. Sure he had weight problems v Hasegawa and really did get broken down in the final round of that fight.

i think Vargas must be signed with Zanfer so that shouldn't stop him having a fight with Magdeleno in the future.

We shouldn't let a single score card ruin what was a decent fight but COME ON !

Not the first time an odd scorecard is there. Quigg getting 115-113 v Frampton Warrington 120-107 v Amagasa and Burns getting 118-110. Hearn said judges had Brook up in the GGG fight ( may have been trolling and seen no proof of the cards)

We slate Germany but we are without doubt the worst for foreign fighters now.
