A clear, controversy free winner in the Canelo/GGG bout will probably take Ward's spot.
Ward was decked solidly and got hammered with stiff jabs in Kovalev 1... That wasn't too impressive... He didn't win legitimately in either fight.
Ax Man Walters hammered Nonito Donaire with raking jabs and clubbing, ripping rights -- while hammering Nonito out quickly for his only stoppage loss... THAT was impressive... It took a long time for the undefeated Walters to agree to fight Lomachenko -- and his skills looked second rate against the incomparable master.. Also, Gary Russell is easily the best Featherweight in the world... but with only two (2) professional fights under his belt Lomachenko boxed the ears off Russell.. Few expected THAT to happen.. Many said, "Lomachenko is foolish. He needs more seasoning before going for titles." Two (2) fights were seasoning enough for the master to convert his amateur skills to the pro ranks.. That's a pretty unusual transition.
Those 2 fights are more impressive than anything anybody else in the world as done... In terms of sheer skill there's nobody who can touch Lomachenko.

Andre Ward is P4P Number 1.
I currently have Andre #1, but due to the questionable way he got there it wouldn't take much to take that spot from him.
Winner of GGG v Canelo won't oust him so what would ?

Baaed on resume and facing quality, luckily 2017 has been and continues to be a phenomenal boxing year.
With loma surely facing rigo, ggg facing canelo, crawford moving up saying he wants to fight nothing but the best, the p4p #1 spot will have a clear candidate.
The top fighters fight each other and whoever looked the most brilliant during his fight & win is the new Kong of bixing. Right now it looks like loma, who has the best skills/ability but not the resume.

By winning a major fight over a fellow Pound for Pound Top 10 entrant in convincing fashion. No controversy.

They're already both Top 10 Pound for Pound. Beating a fellow P4P entrant is exactly the kinda thing that elevates you to #1 status.

Canelo lost to Floyd big and GGG hasn't beat anyone big.

17 Title defenses is big. Daniel Jacobs and David Lemieux were pretty big wins. Aside from that he's got a lot of good wins. Kell Brook, Martin Murray, Matthew Macklin, Proksa, Marco Antonio Rubio, Daniel Geale...he's got a solid record.
So does Canelo.

It puts him in the centre of things which is why we are talking about him.
Andre Ward stopped Sergey Kovalev in 8.

The reason that 3G v GingerHead will yield the P4P #1 is that both fighters have had terrific careers but neither has had a defining top level win. This is it for the winner.
GingerHead is far more dangerous currently at 160 than he was at 152 v FMJ. I still am of the opinion that Team GingerHead wanted to wait one more year. However, his popularity was suffering and they may have also been convinced that someone more dangerous might come along and pickoff 3G.
I think that 3G may have been playing possum.
Even if it is somewhat controversial, the winner goes to #1.
I have both SOGgy and Krushedner in the top five at the moment. Krushedner has only lost to the #1 fighter in the world. If Krushedner had finished SOGgy in the first fight we would not be having this conversation. The winner of 3G v GingerHead would own #2. Kovalev would be undisputed P4P.

I say the whole "pound for pound" thing is a lot of baloney.

People who didn't see those low blows had fluff in their eyes... Tony Weeks even admitted the punches were low and Kovalev SHOULD have been given 5 minutes... That's what they gave Larry Holmes in the Cooney fight when he got hit low... He didn't take the 5 minutes, but he could have. Essentially Tony Weeks admitted that it was a bad stoppage and the NSAC SHOULD'VE declared an NC..

Andre Ward's retirement changes things.
The P4P Top 10 list come December will look a lot different than it did last year.
