Press Release | Timlin vs. Skelly joins Usyk-Chisora undercard

Amy Timlin and Carly Skelly will contest the vacant Commonwealth Super-Bantamweight title live on Sky Sports Box Office and DAZN, Saturday 31st October.

The unbeaten pair were scheduled to fight earlier this month but now find themselves on the undercard to Oleksandr Usyk’s monster fight against Derek Chisora.

Rising star Timlin (4-0) is tipped for a bright future, training under the tutelage of Kieran Farrell and managed by Dave Coldwell.

“I’m buzzing for this. I’ve been training throughout lockdown, and I’m ready to go. This fight will push me on; it’s all about learning. The pressure is on her, Carly will come out all guns blazing, but we’ve got a steady game plan. I can’t wait for the first bell; this platform is huge,” revealed Timlin.

“I’m really excited to have Amy on such a massive show like this. Thanks to Eddie for giving us a slot in these testing times. Amy is a fantastic fighter, at 20 years old, I think she’ll show people in the next year or two she is the next generation of flag bearers coming through in Women’s boxing,” said Coldwell.

Southpaw Scouser Skelly (3-0) splits her time working in Children’s nursing, training out of the North Mersey ABC gym, and raising her two young children.

“It’s been a long camp having to juggle things about, but I’ve had some time off recently to concentrate on the fight,” said Skelly. “It’s a massive risk for Amy to take at her age; she won’t have felt power like this from a more mature fighter. This fight opens doors; I believe in myself and want to reach the World level.”

Promoter Eddie Hearn added: “We’ve seen some amazing domestic fights recently in women’s boxing, and this is another cracker. Two unbeaten fighters gunning for a World Title, the winner here will put themselves into contention for just that in 2021.”

Timlin vs. Skelly joins McCarthy vs. Laggoune and Selby vs. Kambosos Jr on the Usyk-Chisora undercard with more additions to be confirmed shortly.

I know we’re a few weeks out but this is surely Hearn’s worst ever PPV card and he’s had some shockers.

People should still be entitled to complain. The standard of women's boxing is woefull

For women's boxing not to be a lowly standard, the size of the talent pool needs to increase. That will only happen, if at all, by promoting women's boxing. We should think long-headed on this one and give it time. Women's tennis was probably not too good once upon a time.

Not much, as you know. But, again, women tennis players get as much as the blokes now, don't they?

They do in (I think) all of the slams (I can’t remember if the French has made it equal) but they don’t at the smaller tournaments.

The prize money at a mid tier women’s tournament is much lower than the mens.

Okay. I don't follow tennis at all. Didn't realise there were tournaments with prize money other than the big ones. Is it lower pro rata in those tournaments? I.e. they have shorter matches on average, don't they?

Men and women play at the same tournaments at grand slams and a couple of other competitions. Outside of those the prize money is, on average, much much higher in the men’s game than the women’s.

Yes - they have shorter matches at grand slams. Most other tournaments are played over best of 3 sets across both men’s and women’s games.

Against Hammer. Intriguing fight as neither look motivated whenever they face someone better than them. Hammer should be able to outbox and frustrate Allen if he is willing to set the pace but Allen will have a chance at catching him early I guess.

On the other hand we could get an incrediblely boring fight where neither of them try to win.

They’re always shoving Dave Allen on PPV undercards.

Take Haye out because he actually manages Chisora, so he’s really being biased.

Apart from being his friend, wtf is Bellew’s excuse??

David Haye obviously can't go against his fighter. And Tony Bellend being as usual.

Wouldn’t it look better on Bellew if he said Usyk wins. After all Usyk beat Bellew. Logic.

But Bellew is probably still concussed and doesn’t recall Usyk smashing his face.

Bellew would probably think he still beats Usyk.

Bellew is backing his buddy in whatever way he can.

"He's my friend, he's like a member of my family. I'm backing him, I'm there for him whatever he needs, whatever he wants, I will be there. But believe you me, there is nothing I can do for him on October 31. He's going to have to do it all himself. Believe you me, he has it all to do," Bellew told Sky Sports.

"[Usyk] is the most avoided fighter probably in the world. An amazing fighter. If anyone can do it, when their back is against the wall and they are written off by everyone, then Chisora can. I'm hoping his big right hand lands, and he gets the job done. But this is a hard one. It will be very tough.

"I still think [Usyk is] a little bit open and can be caught. Watching his amateur fights, there was always a reaction from him when he got caught clean, but no one has exploited that so far in the pros. His chin is up in the air sometimes and if that continues then it might get caught one time."
