At the risk of being wise after the event, was JW ever really top 1 or 2 in the world?

Wowzers did not see that coming, i gave Warrington first 3 on account of his quality but Lara was landing as well and it looked risky as Warrington coz he was leaving himself wide open and he paid the price in the 4th , wobbled in an exchange of hooks then down heavily from another hook, he was all over the gaff when he got up, reminded me of Khan and Cleverly when they got to carry on when they were on verge of being stopped for first time, he took an absolute pasting when the ref let him box on
Warrington is pure warrior though looked like he wa concussed but kept plugging away despite taking clean hard punches, Warrington nailed Lara all night with left hooks but every one just bounced off his chin with zero effect
Lara was relentless never gave Warrington peace, hurt him with another left in the 9th then one more to KO him, ref should've stopped it earlier, whether it was after the knockdown in the 4th or several shots before the KO

I think it’s because it’s an easier decision and the perception is that if it’s a round that’s even remotely close then I’ll give it to the fighter I’ve seen several times before and they’ll get less shit giving it to the home fighter than the away fighter.
i dont buy that, maybe could make a marginal difference, but we're talking like 98-2 when it comes to the house fighter getting the benefit of this supposed incompetence over the other guy
well actutally, the 'less shit' point, if judges are giving it to one guy because he's more favoured, that 's not just incompetence either, that's very very shady
What else could it be then? The promoter doesn’t appoint the judges, the board does. So has Eddie bribed Robert Smith to get the judges he wants? Or does he have all the judges in his back pocket?
I agree my argument makes them very very shady but I still think it’s incompetence because they don’t want to upset the status quo so take the ‘easy’ decision.
This is where I’m unsure that the promoter doesn’t at least have some kind of sway. Back I. The days before Eddie Hearn, allegedly said in interviews that he doesn’t choose officials the board does.
If that’s the case how was Groves able to object to officials and insist on an American ref for the second Froch fight? Likewise in Matchroom Italy shows have British officials involved, I just can’t see the Italian equivalent of the British board bringing Brit officials over in the same way that we don’t bring Italian refs over to do our fights.
I get the impression there’s more to it than the promoters let on. Let’s not forget horror scorecards happen on all the promoters shows.

He beat Kiko, Selby, Frampton and swatted aside a Euro champ in 2.
He wasn't right tonight - he IS (was?) very good.

Really odd night of boxing , but bloody enjoyable ( judging aside )
What was Warrington's gameplan ? He only fights one way and on the backfoot ain't it .

i think there is for sure some element of corruption, some extra incentive being provided for the judges to go for the homeboi, which they constantly do to a hugely disporportionate degree. it doesnt have to necessarily be bags of cash and all that, and im not specifically saying your man eddeh's behind it
and i mean, having a predetermined unfair bias to score in favour of someone simply because you know theyre more popular is for sure corruption too, it's not being a poor judge who cant tell a clean hit from a swing and a miss

Re: the Groves/Froch fight fighters are within their right to request certain things with officials (obviously they can’t ask for a particular judge or ref) for world title fights. Just because they request them doesn’t mean they automatically get them.
For the Italian shows, a lot of European fights will have one judge of each fighter but all of the judges, I think, will be approved by the EBU so should be neutral. From memory the recentish Gamal Yafai fight had one British judge.
There may be niceties associated with something like an Italy show. Nice hotel, nice expenses etc. but I would be amazed if there’s anything more formal than that.
